I don't play MMOs, but every boss is supposed to be an event affecting the whole game (since beating him opens up a floor) - that should involve a lot of players. And it looked like he could have been beaten with just a few guys. That boss was a bit of a glass canon - if he hits, you're in big trouble, but he didn't have the resilience a RPG boss should have. And his attacks were easy to counter, if you knew they were coming.

This episode needs a big ol' "LEEROY JENKINS!".

All in all the second episode was still quite good. Sure quite a bit was left out, but what was left out isn't essential to the story. The main goal of this episode was to introduce Asuna and to give us more background for the main story of Aincrad and explain why Kirito is who he is later on. What the episode lacked imo were two additional minutes to make the pacing a bit smoother.

Well, being LN reader I'd be lying if I said I didn't want more, but hey if that means more time for contents later then, be my guest.

While I did go "aww" with some of the axing, I did like how they axed/handled Kirito's departure scene.

Instead of
Spoiler:
he just respond to Asuna's question by quietly walking into the dark.

This episode was rather boring, compared to the first one. The drama didn't feel real, and I think they are trying too hard making it look like, well, a MMORPG. You'd think, in the future the concept should have evolved a bit...

Well I guess the pacing could be better, but most of the things are distilled...the main spirit of it that is.

Great episode, even though half the fight I'd already seen from trailers. That is really one fun boss battle though; what I would pay to be in a game like that....

Also, I'm surprised they need to eat in-game and can taste their food to boot. How would a health pot taste? Does Diabel's refusal to drink one say anything about the flavor?

Medicine usually tastes pretty bad, right?

Good episode. It was a step down from the first episode due to some budgeting issues, but the 20 minutes till passed by in a flash.

Typical noobs; they never bother reading the manual.

not with the way most companies are happily churning out F2P WoW clones, or Soon-to-be F2P WoW clones :P

In the future, companies will stop writing manuals entirely and leave it to the players to write a wiki.

Well... to be fair, they DID read the manual. It's just that the boss surprised the party by having a completely new pattern compare to the Beta version.

Anyone else think "Diablo" when Diabel first introduced himself?

Real men don't read manuals because we don't need them.

The only exception is IKEA furniture

I........actually rarely read the manual for a game. Because most every game now has a tutorial in its opening chapter or whenever a function first becomes available/needed.

Then again, this is an MMORPG, not a single-player PS3 game. Final Fantasy XI didn't have an in-game tutorial either.

Was not a fan of this episode. It felt too rushed and I didn't care about anything but the leads' interactions.

Too much attention to the fighting, not enough on the characters.

Maybe I'll go read the LN instead.

I thought the battle scene was pretty well done, but everything before that kind of felt rushed to me. Overall, a good episode nonetheless. I wish there was more interaction between Kirito and Asuna though, because that scene where they were talking to each other definitely felt early, considering they had just met.
