I don't play MMOs, but every boss is supposed to be an event affecting the whole game (since beating him opens up a floor) - that should involve a lot of players. And it looked like he could have been beaten with just a few guys. That boss was a bit of a glass canon - if he hits, you're in big trouble, but he didn't have the resilience a RPG boss should have. And his attacks were easy to counter, if you knew they were coming.

All in all the second episode was still quite good. Sure quite a bit was left out, but what was left out isn't essential to the story. The main goal of this episode was to introduce Asuna and to give us more background for the main story of Aincrad and explain why Kirito is who he is later on. What the episode lacked imo were two additional minutes to make the pacing a bit smoother.

Well, being LN reader I'd be lying if I said I didn't want more, but hey if that means more time for contents later then, be my guest.
While I did go "aww" with some of the axing, I did like how they axed/handled Kirito's departure scene. Instead of Spoiler:

Great episode, even though half the fight I'd already seen from trailers. That is really one fun boss battle though; what I would pay to be in a game like that....
Also, I'm surprised they need to eat in-game and can taste their food to boot. How would a health pot taste? Does Diabel's refusal to drink one say anything about the flavor?

I........actually rarely read the manual for a game. Because most every game now has a tutorial in its opening chapter or whenever a function first becomes available/needed.
Then again, this is an MMORPG, not a single-player PS3 game. Final Fantasy XI didn't have an in-game tutorial either.

I thought the battle scene was pretty well done, but everything before that kind of felt rushed to me. Overall, a good episode nonetheless. I wish there was more interaction between Kirito and Asuna though, because that scene where they were talking to each other definitely felt early, considering they had just met.
