I'm kinda surprised at Mami's huge popularity to be honest. I mean she basically shows up for the first 25% of the show, dies, then simply makes cameo appearances thereafter. What is it about her that is so intriguing.. her ladylike demeanor? Gun kata? Tragic beginnings and end? Boobs? Probably that last one. Damn perverts.

There's what you wrote, plus:

1. Kickass theme music.

2. Great style in general.

3. Unusual combination of character elements (refined combined with drill-hair usually translates into an overbearing rich girl, but Mami is much different from that).

4. Excellent first impression (Mami's first appearance couldn't have been any better).

5. The key character in the first big meme of the show (that same meme was also the moment that made it clear that Madoka Magica was not your conventional magical girl show).

6. Not enough screen-time to do anything that could turn people off from her. Mami had fewer controversial scenes surrounding her than most of the rest of the cast (Mami did have that time in Timeline 3 where she completely snapped, but that's about it).
