Chrome Shelled Regios Secret Side Manga Discussion thread

Welcome to the discussion thread for the third manga series of Chrome Shelled Regios (Chrome Shelled Regios Secret Side) by Shūsuke Amagi, drawn by Watari.

First published 10th April 2008 in Beans Ace.

Currently vol 1 is in possession.

I initially thought that if Missing Mail was FonfonXFelli centered, Secret Side would be somehow LayfonXNina centered. Looks like I was wrong.

But I'm not entirely wrong, though. If I were to describe it, I'd say Nina-Felli-Mei = 2-1-0

Of course, Secret Side has its own way of how Layfon's story from his own PoV is told.

Spoiler for Not for the weak of heart ;D:

- Nina actually has a panda look-alike pedobear teddybear from her childhood (as Harley recalls it) and goes angry, thus calling upon her entire platoon including Felli when one of her classmates told her that some prankster students are stealing her bag. And of course, only Harley knows Nina has that pedobear teddybear in possession (although he still wonders why she still has it till today).
- Like how Missing Mail indicates it... Mei, Mifi and Narki are Layfon's lunchmates. Also, Narki and Layfon are sparring mates in a practice like how episode 7 should tell us, but nah there's no fanservice-ey scene.
- Nina gets a Layfon Cradle! I mean, she was somehow injured due to a surprise attack in a platoon match, and Layfon helps to carry her after it. Of course, there's no less you would expect from Nina's reaction...
- ... which tells me she's more tsundere in this manga. XD
- In this manga's timeline, Felli still calls Layfon by "Layfon".
- Nina gets to witness herself from the SCP's observatory monitor on Layfon slaying a Filth Bug solo like how we should witness in episode 5 (but in this manga it's a big single Filth Bug rather than as a swarm) as SCP tells her Layfon's actual identity: A Former Grendan's Ace, one of the 12 Heaven Bladers, Layfon "Volfstein" Alseif.

Man I am really looking forward to volume 2 now.

However, for the time being I don't want to scan it yet due to the amount of time needed. I might scan it later but right now I'm busy with academics >_>

Lol dude, that's the novel's raw while they're talking here is Secret Side Manga raw.

So anyway, Missing Mail: Felli X fonfon centric, while Secret Side is more like Nina x fonfon.

^ Pretty sure Soul assassin is talking about the Manga (CSR Secret Side) not the novel.

CSR manga seems to be the one centered around Nina though not really much about romance. She's basically the main character in it. It's pretty hilarious. She seems a mix of Sousuke Sagara (military nut, goes to extremes) and Kaname Chidori (volatile temper).

In the current colume I read, well I can't judge anything much from a tankoubon that has 3 chapters total in it, but it seems to focus on Layfon and Nina, even though most of it are on separate terms. But most of the time the panels contain more Layfon than the rest of the characters and his everyday biddings (in his platoon, everyday class and off academic hours).

You're referring to CSR: Secret Side right? I haven't actually read any of that. I was referring to CSR manga. That one's almost entirely Nina centric. No romance really that I have seen so far.

So from what I've gather:
CSR-Nina
CSR:MM-FelliXLayfon
CSR:SS-A mix of both NinaxLayfon and FelliXLayfon probably

... One single chapter is so long and I can only read a few of the lines to properly translate them... >_<

good thing this is a manga, so at least I can understand what are they saying based on the pictures and some of the words I can put together and understand.

I hope it is OK for me to bump this thread.

After re-reading a few times to understand the manga itself, I decided to reveal some stuff.

Basically, how different it is than Missing Mail and the current canon we know right now.

Spoiler for Differences:

- The fight that led into Mei in danger was changed into somehow a quarrel + fistfight and one of them accidentally knocked Mei down. Mei was stopped by Layfon from falling before he simply goes in between the quarreling dudes and, basically, one-hit KO-ing them (with an "I AM NOT PLEASED" face) - all while he was still dressed as a General Studies student.

- Nina's Dite is flat-shaped than as rounded as a baton compared to the original content. In other words, her Dites look more like dual-wield one-handed swords.

- SCP Kallian is less than the Manipulative Bastard he is in the original CSR, but nevertheless the way he tries to make Layfon do something "for the sake of Zuellni" provides me with a little moment of lulz. Basically, it's not by a subtle threatening of Layfon to do stuff but it's something which makes Layfon panically go, "Okay! Okay! I get it! I'll go! I'll go!!!" as SCP takes out a megaphone and announces something about Layfon to the whole academy ^^;;

- As I stated earlier, Nina... yeah, just Nina... gets to learn the badass that Layfon is, a former Heaven's Blade, from Kallian. O noes, Fon-fon, Seitokaichou told your Taichou that and she has found out...

- Attack of the swarm of Filth Monsters that Layfon single-handedly PWNED during episode 5 was replaced with a single dragon-looking Filth Monster. Wait, a DRAGON!?

- And, sure enough of a difference, in that Fon-fon vs Dragon FM; Felli refused to help at all. Of course, since it's a single monster and Layfon's directly confronting it and is winning... there's no need for Felli's help at all.
