You do know they have PvP servers right? It's a Sith class, but nothing stops me from attacking Sith and not attacking the Republic.

Ahh, actually, unless they make free-for-all PvP servers, yes something would stop you from attacking Sith players. That being that they are part of the Sith faction, just like you.

Details on space combat are finally out. According to PC gamer, the space combat in The Old Republic is not a re-boot of the old X-Wing franchise. Instead, it's referred to as a 'tunnel shooter' which brings to mind images of Starfox.

Details are, as always, vague until we get to see some actual footage, but Bioware has apparently promised escort missions and PvP in space as well, which begs the question whether the tunnel shooter is just a temporary mid-step.

A few transcribed notes:

Quote:
We call this gameplay "tunnel shooter". That means there are especially designed levels which make you follow a certain path. The players has a range of weapon systems to choose from to use against his enemies. You will receive a quest beforehand. If you're in space you will automatically receive side quests.
  • Missions are supposed to be a few minutes short and are more of an "action snack".
  • There won't be any PvP space combat at launch.
  • PC action played a mission, which included fighters, corvettes and cruisers. There task was to shoot 20 fighters and destroy the enemy's mothership.
  • Missions are well-staged/designed, there won't be any flying around doing nothing.
  • Space combat is single-player for now, the hotspots are chosen from you space ship's bridge.
  • Escort missions are planned.
  • Space combat missions are completely optional for now, if you don't want to do them, you don't have to.
  • There are six different types of space ships. Smuggler, Bounty Hunter, Agent and Trooper will have their own type of shop. The two Jedi and the two Sith classes will have to share a type.

At least this way the flight segments can be interactive and rewarding without becoming obstructive. On-rails might actually be the best move on this. Imagine if the space segments were free-roaming for everybody: everyone would be shooting each other down in space and interplanetary travel would be ground to a halt.

I'm still hesitating between the trooper and the agent. The agent has sniper, stealth and political intrigue, but the trooper has the white armor and big guns.

An RPG with Star Fox-esque space battles? This game has the potential to be so awesome.

Friday update!

This time they updated the Jedi Knight page with advanced classes (Guardian & Sentinel) and a new companion (an astromech)
http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/classes/jedi-knight

And we have a nice looking JK trailer.

I must say I love the animations and we see a Sith Warrior that does not look like a drunken brute and some Mandalorians.

I love the looks of those Sith Warriors, also the Mandalorian being kicked into the pit.

Rejoice, then, that these trailer VO's are so far the unofficial ones. The Sith warrior sounded nothing like the actual in game character.

Anyway, the trailer didn't really impress me. But then again, neither did its Sith warrior counterpart. I was actually a lot more interested in the holonet update, especially with the confirmation of the Jedi knight's first companion. We all knew he was going to get a droid, but to learn that the droid once belonged to Ven Zallow (aka master gel hair from the deceived trailer) was an especially pleasant surprise. I wonder if they're going to use him to expand on Ven.

It did impress me because, in comparison, the Sith Warrior Trailer sucked.

I should probably note the irony at this point that femshep was voiced by none other than Jennifer Hale, also known for her role as Bastila Shan in a certain other game with Old Republic in its name.

Wait your saying that person who voiced that trailer also voiced Bastila from Knights of the Old Republic?
