A real life Ippo, minimum class Inoue Naoya a hard hitter made an amazing debut in Japan with a knockdown KO in the 4th round 2min 4sec. What was amazing was he knockdown his opponent, OPB 7th Christen Omayao from the Philippines with a short upper to his body. This was not a fluke since he also also downed Christen in the 1st round with a body blow as well.

Another question, a lot of Ippo I've been checking out lately is the "low quality releases", where they say to wait for a tankoban. Stuff from say vol 77 through the 80s etc, were higher quality versions of those volumes ever released?

I think what LeaD36 was mean to say is the physical length of the chapter. Weekly and bi-weekly manga in Shonen magazine are usually 18 pages long not counting color spread. But Hajime no Ippo is usually 15 pages with little dialog as well.
With that being said though, 18 pages per chapter was more of rule for Shueisha's manga magazine (Weekly Shonen Jump, Jump Square, Monthly Jump, etc) Most of other company like Kodansha which this title falls on is usually 15-16 pages... There is a reason why people refer Weekly Shonen Jump mangaka to be the toughest and hardest job in industry...

I was spared the torture of waiting weekly for this series. Reading in bundles a few weeks back, sure took the load off.
Part of say Mike should lose, so it will show Ippo that his chance's are good to compete as well!
