...Well, it was expected to be rushed like hell, but that's beyond my expectations.
Spoiler for Episode 5:
The lack of character developments hurt this case -a lot-. Anime only watchers didn't have the chance to figure Chihiro's gender properly (aside of having a hunch about it and the fact the seiyuu was male to begin with). By itself, it was important for the case, but also a major reason why Chihiro has such a complex over "her" weakness.
Likewise, they completely removed Chihiro's interactions with Mondo, so not only people didn't learn about his brother prior the trial, but also would obviously not be able to connect Mondo with Chihiro (be it the absence of him comforting Chihiro and him being an example of strength).
To make matter worse, they also shortened Mondo's plight when Chihiro asked him for training, which made Mondo look like a short tempered idiot, instead of having his wounds rubbed by salt and the likes.
Mondo was initially supposed to confront Chihiro about how he could easely blurt out his secret, and the fact he could overcome it like that while stating Mondo was strong made him snap hard over several seconds, instead of being like that.
I still don't get how Kishi can pretend they put care for the trials considering how even these are rushed to hell.
For instance, even if it wasn't for Mondo's mistake regarding Chihiro's tracksuit color, Kyouko noticed that Mondo uses "あの女" with girls and "アイツ" with guys, so she could always question Mondo regarding how he knew Chihiro was male, especially he switched the term he used -after- Chihiro was found dead.
Of course, it was skipped because they cut a lot of Mondo's lines, so there was no way to show that proof, especially the audience had no way to catch that without the actual instance occuring.
In general, they skipped:
-The other reason why Togami could claim Touko was Genocider Sho: as I mentioned last week, Touko was supposed to faint after seeing Chihiro's corpse (more accurately, blood), and she wakes up afterwards in a sort of demented state. Her speech pattern was also weird, as she sounds excited there is a corpse.
Byakuya also notes that she afterwards had no problem with blood, so 1 personality has an issue with that, while the other doesn't.
This is also linked with what happened with Touko, trying to shelter herself in her room. She wasn't afraid of Genocider Sho to get in her room, but in fact the opposite: that GS would get out of her room.
-Makoto suspected Byakuya to be the culprit, not only because he was the only person who knew about the cruxifixion, but also the fact that he prompted Makoto to check the women changing room, despite he wasn't supposed to know the victim was Chihiro.
-Kyouko actually asked a recess for the trial, considering everyone else were stuck with the suspicion Byakuya was the culprit, even though they learned the scene of crime was relocated, but it seems weird for Chihiro to be in the men changing room before that point, even if they think Byakuya moved "her".
Kyouko tells everyone to go to the crime scene, and as Sakura was asked to check the body, the latter realize that Chihiro was a boy all along, much to everyone shock, except Monokuma of course (A pity they skipped that, as Sakura's reaction was priceless).
-After the blue tracksuit issue, Mondo is cornered because there is no way he could see Chihiro with the blue tracksuit, as Chihiro sutted it in his bag immediately after being spotted by Celes. And it is impossible for him to notice that after the crime because the bag and the tracksuit were disposed of. As I also explained before, Kyouko already had her suspicions on Mondo, which is the reason why she went on that bluff.
-Mondo actually fights back, and people are stuck because they don't have decisive evidence.
Hifumi brought the fact he found a broken electronic student handbook, which is very likely to be Chihiro's. Makoto remembers that Monokuma stated that ESHB have a weakness, much to Monokuma dismay. Kyouko states the culprit knows how to break them, so she demands Monokuma to explains the flaw of the ESHB. It is revealed that the ESHB are weak to extended period of high temperatures, which confirmed Hifumi's suspicions as he found Chihiro's in the sauna.
The culprit probably didn't know beforehand, but Kyouko is certain they might have found out by chance, which Makoto can testify as he explained Mondo and Kyotaka had a competition in the sauna, and Mondo kept his clothes because he wanted to have an handicap against Kyotaka. As result, he probably left his Handbook in his jacket and realized after the endurance contest his handbook is broken.
Mondo claims his handbook works fine, but Makoto suspects it is actually broken and took Leon's instead. It is at this point that Monokuma again confirmed that you are forbidden to lend your ESHB, but you are free to "borrow" them.
Kyouko wasn't supposed to know about the sauna contest.
-Kyotaka states Makoto has no decisive evidence, but as Makoto stated people can borrow ESHB, Mondo gives up and admits he is the culprit.
-After Mondo's execution, Byakuya was disappointed of such conclusion, calling it a boring game. Of course, a lot of the students were disgusted by this remark, and Kyouko asks him why he messed up the crime scene. Byakuya plainly explains it was just to make things more interesting, and he actually knew the culprit all along: after he went to the library, he saw Mondo leaving the women changing room. He went inside afterwards and discovered the crime scene. Having just learned that Touko was Genocider Sho, Byakuya wanted to spice things up a bit and tampered the crime scene.
Yasuhiro questions him what would happen if everyone else concluded he was the culprit, but Byakuya would be able to convince them otherwise at the end, although Makoto thwarted his plan quite early, concluding "he knows who to watch out for when he will act as the villain".
-After Byakuya's explanations, Kyouko questions Monokuma why he is making such flashy executions, as these involve quite the efforts. Monokuma laugh at her, saying these punishments and despair are for all mankind. Truly to turn every bits of hope into despair.
I sure thought case 1 was a butcher job because it was one of the most obvious cases, but considering what they did here, the series is really just bunch of summeries OVA for sake of game players having few things animated.
I really feel sorry for what happened this episode. First, the trial chapter is coming up, and it looks like Fukawa does indeed show her sadistic side besides acting very shy. We finally learn that Chihiro is indeed a crossdressing boy, but that's to be expected since he's voiced by a male. However, I really feel bad for both him and the culprit that turns out to be Oowada, he's a bad guy with a nice trait inside, and everyone cried when he's executed by Monokuma, I don't know why I am so moved by it, even Ishimaru knows that considering both him and Oowada are total bros. Let's see what would happen next episode.

Actually thew viewers could notice it when Kirigiri was shocked after checking the particular part of the body.

so who do you think Monokuma is talking to in the end, at first I thought it was the master mind behind all this, but it felt like he was talking to someone that isn't part of all this.

That why they hide his/her voice.
Them butchers. The only thing that keeps me watching this awful adaptation is animated Monobear.
This trial is completely, utterly screwed up. Damn it.
Out of curiousity, at the beginning of the trial, Naegi gets the 3 bullets, is there any significance to them other then visual appeal from the game? I get he's firing his accusations at the person he thinks did it. Also why only 3?
Edit: Being anime only this was interesting. Rushed yes but Ill accept that since most game adaptations are. I like the premise, I like the animation so I keep watching. And hell Fukawa transformation was fargan awesome. Would love to see that done in the game.

Out of curiousity, at the beginning of the trial, Naegi gets the 3 bullets, is there any significance to them other then visual appeal from the game? I get he's firing his accusations at the person he thinks did it. Also why only 3?
That's a very arbitrary number of "ammo".
Depending of the game setting and the case, the number of "bullets" loaded for Makoto varies greatly, with the correct evidence to present along with unfitting evidences (generally, lower difficulty would lead to only 1-3 evidences, while higher difficulty would involve 5-7). This also means that for EACH debate, Makoto has to "load" his evidences.
The biggest issue with the adaptation is not only it seems some random gimmicks, but they show "ammunition" as if he only need 3 evidences for the whole trial which is absolutely not the case.
Frankly, they really shouldn't have abused the game UI.

I wonder when we get to see a girl get executed, or if its just going to go down the list of guys first, since girls are more marketable to keep around.
After watching this I know get why the "guys bonding" moments from epi 4 were so important. At the time I didnt get why the anime kept it. Another awesome seiyuu dusted
Edit: watching the game trial video, seems like they kept a lot of the game seiyuus.
