scifi anime

can yall sugest an unliscened scifi anime that:
1. is set in space
2. diffrent
3. mecha (no g gundam type stuff)
4. deals with war
Any of the above or a combination of would be nice.

Nadesico. It's licensed, but other than that seems to be just what you're looking for. Also it shares much of it's production team with stellvia. You can get the box set pretty cheap. It's normally $90, but I'm sure you can find it for at least half that.
For series listed on animesuki, macross 7 or macross zero I guess. I'd recommend scrapped princess too, but it isn't set in space... Can't think of anything else right now.
edit: Try galaxy railways too.

I agree with Galaxy Railways. It's not mecha, but it seems to meet the rest of your requirements.
I like it. Kind of deep, and the character development is sort of cool.
Also, check out Tekkaman Blade 1 [TV series, AKA Teknoman] or Tekkaman Blade 2 [OVA]. However, these are rather old, so have fun trying to find them.

i HIGHLY RECOMMEND Infinite Ryvius, especially if you liked stellvia. much darker, but still a good match.

It's licensed, but Gunbuster meets all four of your other criteria, and is also extremely good and very interesting.
