I didn't see you try using Yuuno's close-range catch; doesn't that move have more range than any other catch in the game? Perhaps it has more range than Chrono's staff, and can be used for an opening with which to start a combo beatdown.
But like the other grab moves it only works when you are "next" to the opponent, Chrono's hit are slightly far from it. And the grabs are not really good for combos since they push the enemy away and take a second to recover from, when the enemy recovers.
Quote:
Yuuno's auto-counter move may also figure in; if Chrono is attacking first because of superior range, block with a barrier, and he suddenly finds himself zapped, exploded, and flying back, defenseless against a Protection Smash and combo.
Same issue with grab, pushes the enemy to long range and then a 1 second recovery time.
Quote:
But Chrono's regular shot is Stinger Ray, and his charged shot is Blaze Cannon. Aren't those better than Yuuno's Shoot Bullet?
Yep, but they are dodgeable easily if they are not connected to a combo.
Quote:
If Chrono stays out of Yuuno's charging or binding range, he could pelt Yuuno with superior firepower.
His magic runs out and in that moment you charge his Protection Smash and bam he can't block it or dodge it.
Quote:
He could also counter Yuuno's charges with Delayed Bind traps, unless Protection Smash ignores that spell. I don't know about Chrono's "Hound Sphere".
They follow him but they don't activate 'till his protection smash has hit.
Quote:
And if Chrono catches Yuuno in Struggle Bind, Chrono can keep on shooting Yuuno with Stinger Ray volleys and Blaze Cannon shots.
If you try to bind any opponent that is falling after being hit, it counts as a hit and it doesn't bind him.
Quote:
Also, Yuuno says something odd at 1:05 when he throws out a chain. Just before that, you used Chain Anchor, and he clearly said Chain Anchor. But this time he didn't say Chain Bind or even just Chain.
While I don't know what he says, this is because I'm chaining Square, Triangle and Circle. Square and Triangle throw the opponent to long range and you can hit them with a long range attack.
Quote:
But anyway, thanks for posting these fights.
No problemo and talking about this, the Yuuno vs Kyrie is going to be laterish, my internet is being really slow today.
Man, I just read a piece of funny stuff that says that if the Book of Night Sky can spawn that many lolis' Touma is going to have a tough time if the book of the Silver Cross, being another tome of mass destruction spawn a bunch of lolis as well.
For a Sequence with only three required battles, I think this came out way more massive than I ever dreamed of...
Anyways, enjoy!
MGLN A's Portable: THE GEARS OF DESTINY
Sequence 10
Spoiler for Sequence 10:
The sequence opens up with Stern running diagnostics/programs with Luciferion.
It is revealed to be her helping Dearche take physical form. She announces that the Material is in 81% full operational condition. Yersiniakreuz is completely operational. Dearche is as smug as ever. Stern asks how her King is faring and the Hayate-lookalike says she's all good. She wanted to say that she's brimming with power but alas, that's not the case. Still, what she has right now is plenty enough to fight. Dearche asks her retainer's status as well. Stern and Luciferion are A-OK.
Levi joins them and is overjoyed by the resurrection of the King. Dearche smugly says it's only natural. Stern says that Levi had a pretty hard time for managing while the she and the King were gone. Levi doesn't and reports that the situation ain't good.
Dearche knows that U-D is going to start rampaging again. She boasts that Stern already did all the necessary investigation. Levi: As to be expected of Stern! Stern: Yes... The Material of Wisdom is not just for show. In that case, it's perfectly acceptable to praise me more.
Levi: Stern is amazing! Awesome! Cool! *clapclapclap* Stern: Thank you very much.
Dearche scolds the two for playing around. She's eager to head out, announcing that with Stern's plan she'll obtain U-D with the Tome of the Purple Sky. After that, she will be the true King to Rule over Darkness.
Levi: Yaaa--y! Stern: Magnificent... Dearche: OOOHOHOHO!!! My reign cannot be matched!!! ("Waga hadou ga teki wa nashi!" - Lit. "My wave has no enemy." Sounds awkward.)
Stern reports that nuisances have appeared. Levi confirms a large number of Dark Pieces gathering. King-sama thinks it will be good exercise after reviving. They prepare for battle.
Levi is as lively as ever. Stern has an internal monologue that they won't let anybody stop the surge of the King and their wish. *scene goes ominously black* Yes... No matter what happens.
You get a chance to use the Materials in this Sequence. There are only three rounds. For the first two, the Material you picked will be the same one you will use for the 2nd match. To make things easier, I'll post by Material.
Stern's Battles:
- First up is Stern vs Dark Piece Dearche. Have I mentioned how awesome Stern is in this game before? She's easily the most mature and wise of the three Materials. As the voice of reason that even Dearche would readily (okay, a little begrudgingly) listen to, she shows plenty of awesome moments without having to fight. Below is one of my favorite scenarios with her that shows her loyalty to the King: Stern: Hmm... Even we have Fragments now? Perhaps it's because of U-D's nearing completion/restart. DP-Dearche: What are you? Why did you appear in front of me? (Archaic Japanese is hard...) Stern: You mere fragment... Stop using that appearance and way of speaking. I feel like our King's image is being defiled. It's unsightly.
- Dark Peace Dearche doesn't listen and babbles more about being a King. Stern says that she's appalled how much of a fool the faker is and decides she should talk to it in a way even an idiot will understand: Stern: Cretins who dare take the image of the King... will be destroyed by my hand. Without anything being left... Disappear!
- She easily crushes the Dark Piece, saying that it's incompetence is on a level that the King will consider unforgivable. Dark Piece Dearche curses her but Stern just calls her an eyesore and tells her to disappear. And so the fake does. She is then contacted by Nanoha, who detected that she went into battle and is asking if she's alright. Stern says she just got rid of a fragment. Nanoha says she knows that Stern is a strong girl, but she shouldn't overdo it since she just revived a short while ago. Stern appreciates Nanoha's concern, and says there's no need to worry. But she does say that she realized seeing fakes of your own kind is unpleasant. She wonders why Nanoha and the others accepted the Material's existences. Nanoha admits that she was surprised when she saw Stern at first but never felt unpleasant about this. Stern is not her clone, and when she saw they had the same Barrier Jackets with different colors she just thought, "Ah, we match outfits~!" Stern says that Nanoha really is an interesting person. She asks if Nanoha would fight her again after taking care of U-D. She feels that if she can know more about her original, she'll be able to reach greater heights. Nanoha happily agrees, as long as it's in a proper setting to which here counterpart agrees. Stern excuses herself as there are more Fragments to take care of. Nanoha tells her to call anytime she's in a pinch.
- Next is Dark Piece Vita. The fragment does not talk and Stern says she and Luciferion will clear the path of the King. After defeating the Dark Piece, she announces the Flames of Destruction will not disappear as long as the Materials exist. A dimensional quake happens.
Levi's matches
- Levi's first match is against Dark Piece Stern. The fragment is in much worse condition even when compared to how Stern was in the first game. This one is confused and is just focused on causing more destruction. After Levi defeats her, she boasts that the Dark Piece's attacks didn't hurt one bit... But later thinks that they very damn well did. Even if the opponent is a fake, it's Stern we're talking about after all. After the fake disappears: Levi:*Kirari~n!* My viiiictory!!!
- She gets a call from Fate. Much like with Nanoha and Stern, Original-chan asks if Levi is alright. Of course, our blue little imp is fine and says that she still has the 3 candies Fate sent to her. (If I understood correctly, they are implied to be the similar swirly lollipops from that past sequence) She asks if the sweets will go bad soon because she would like to carry them longer. Fate says that as long as she doesn't start eating them incompletely or taking them to hot places, they should be fine. She's curious why Levi still carries them around and the latter says that since those candies are good, she plans on eating them with her fellow Materials once the U-D matter is resolved. Both of them agree that it's a good idea. Fate asks Levi what they are planning after getting U-D. Levi isn't planning anything, really. Stern and Dearche seem to have some so she just plans on following them. In turn, she asks Fate why the question. Her original mentions that since they are able to work together like this, she would like to still get along well with Levi and the Materials. Levi is confused but Fate insists it's not strange. It would make her happy for one, and then she thinks the Materials are good kids. Levi thinks she's weird and Fate requests to talk with them again after the case. She wants to know more about them. The Material says she'll think about it and says she'll be cutting the line, with Fate reminding her one more time about talking after the case. Levi exasperatedly agrees and cuts the line, thinking that her original is really a weird girl. But she thinks that the other two being praised is good... and there's the 3 candies. She'll consider it. She gets a call from Stern because she was staying still in one place and Dearche scolds her, telling her to stop dilly-dallying.
- Second match is against Dark Piece Zafira. Levi says she'll protect the King and Stern and the fragment in front of her is a piece of cake. As the Material of Power, that's the reason she was born! After the fight, "Levi the Slasher is here!!!"
- Oh, and yeah. Dimensional quake.
Dearche's matches
- The first fight is Dearche vs Dark Piece Levi. The fake Slasher doesn't recognize Dearche and is much creepier than the real one in general, sounding like a true killing machine. Dearche: A lowly fragment like you dares to raise your hand against your lord? You're head is high! KNEEL BEFORE ME! *after the match* Dearche: HAHAHA!!! Are you in despair in front of my almighty power?!
- Dark Piece Levi tries to rise up once more, but is immediately banished by the King's decree.
- Like with the previous two cases, Hayate calls Dearche. In this, we are treated to a miracle of seeing the two finally getting along with each other!
......
NOT!!!
- You can feel Dearche's disgust whenever she talks with her original, and it doesn't change here. I'd almost feel sorry for Hayate for being the only one despised by her counterpart if I didn't think she's having a blast pushing the buttons of the irritable King-sama... Anyway, Hayate says it's only natural since they're working together. Dearche says their goals only intersect for now. She has no intention of getting along with Hayate. Of course, our budding little commander inserts logic into it that since they are allies, regardless of it being temporary, there should at least be collaboration and sharing of thoughts. Stern, ever the wise adviser, agrees that this is a wise action. Levi says that Dearche should show 'Kogarasu-chin' her magnanimous side too. King-sama is spurned by the ego-stroking and asks the other what she's after. Hayate says Stern and Levi should listen too. She would like to invite the Materials over once the incident is finished. She heard from Levi that they don't really have any plan after obtaining U-D. With that in mind, Hayate thinks they can help them find a place where they can 'rampage' to their hearts' content. Dearche bristles at the suggestion and cannot stand the thought of owing them anything. Hayate tries to placate her counterpart (Kansai-ben is difficult too...) Unfortunately, Dearche reached the limit of her patience and snaps at Hayate, promising her suffering and a number of gruesome scenarios. Hayate looks disappointed and says Dearche is misunderstanding her intentions.
- Levi says that the King is really angry. Stern says that she doesn't think that the Mistress of the Night Sky is as wicked as Dearche is making her out to be. (DOH, who's the wicked one here?) Dearche snaps at her adviser, asking if her mind has been poisoned by the protagonists. Stern calmly says it's the most logical step and that staying calm is important. She adds that the King should cool her head a bit. (Wait a sec, where did I hear this before?) Levi pipes in, saying that they know 'meramera' (flames) and 'biribiri' (electric shocks) but not 'hiyahiya' (cold). She suggests that King-sama learn ice magic to cool herself down. Dearche now really wonders if her retainers really do respect her or not. XD Stern says of course Levi says that Dearche will always be their King. Of course, Stern inserts some snark and says that with her talking back to the King aside, she'll follow her, making Dearche grind her teeth in irritation.
- Hayate apologizes, saying she really does intend to talk with them after the case. Dearche is not in the mood right now. Stern just sighs in exasperation and appoints herself as Dearche's proxy for speaking with Hayate. She promises to listen to what they have to say after, but only to that extent. Levi follows up that if their suggestions would be insulting to the King, they won't leave it lying down. Dearche is shocked at her retainers' actions as Hayate thanks them. Dearche has had enough of talking with Hayate and shuts down the line
- Dearche asks what Stern is thinking and the latter says it's for the sake of the world covered by warm darkness, the King's future. Levi says that they never had a real goal in the first place. Dearche plans to kill the Yagami family and absorb them unto herself. Levi asks what else. Dearche says she plans on getting rid of the other mages too... That's when Levi protests. She doesn't want Original, Kurohane and Bushido with the others to get killed because she already made a number of promises with them (to play...? ). Stern says that she'll be troubled if the King lays a hand on Nanoha as well. They have a rematch to take care of, after all. Dearche grumbles about their selfishness (Look who's talking. ). Stern answers this by saying that she has observed the world as it is now. It's no longer the chaotic times of The Book of Darkness. The ways of the world, the ways of ambition and selfishness are now different. She's only thinking about the King's reign and freedom. Levi says she's thinking about it too. Then Stern says this confusing line that only she and Levi will bind Dearche. The latter says that it's only natural since they are her retainers. She decides to go ahead with the plan, blaming Hayate and the other two for the topic going all over the place.
- You fight against Dark Piece Signum here. Dearche remembers that Signum did kill her once with Sturmfalken in the first game. She lets out all her grudge against the fragment but is disappointed when it provides a paltry challenge compared to the real one. The dimensional quake happens...
The Materials gather, having located U-D. But the bad news is that Stern confirms that their target has already powered up by 8 percent/times from their last confrontation. At this rate, even the plan with Nanoha and the others using the anti-U-D programs won't work. Dearche asks if a direct confrontation with all three of them won't work. Stern confirms it's useless. Dearche decides to use her long range magic. However, her adviser stops her, saying that it's her job. Stern will handle U-D and Dearche should save her power for taking control of the berserk program.
Stern says that U-D has reached a point of power where any kind of plan the three of them use will fail. That's why she contracted for help from Nanoha and the others. The only thing to do now would be to connect her efforts to their eventual victory with everyone, meaning to stop any further of U-D's progress in power, and if possible, to decrease it. That means she's prepared for the worst, sacrificing even her physical form for the task. The other two are naturally against this. Dearche says this is not a matter of luck. U-D can destroy Stern's system code, completely annihilating her at worst. Stern shoots the same logic back at Dearche. Only she and her Tome of the Purple can control U-D, nothing else. If Dearche is killed, it's all over.
Stern quickly binds her fellow Materials. She begs for her King's forgiveness, but they must stay put there for now. She leaves the King in Levi's hands. The other two desperately try to talk her out of it, but Stern says it's the most logical way.
U-D's power is too great. She has no control as well so she must be controlled and guided. Only Lord Dearche is possible of such a feat. Stern is the Flame to Open the King's Path. Even if she's burnt out completely, she won't have any regrets.
Levi catches up with her, saying that she's definitely lying to herself. She will definitely regret it. She made a promise with Nanoha to fight again, right? Stern is suitably shocked that Levi was able to break her Rubellite. But as the Material of Power, Levi can break binds through sheer force.
Stern is amazed by her comrades ridiculous amount of power. Levi says that 2 of them will have a higher chances of survival. At this point, the Material of Wisdom really starts showing slivers of emotion and is visibly touched by Levi's offer. They move forward to U-D for their King.
You have a choice of using either Stern or Levi against U-D. Regardless who you choose, the dialogue remains mostly the same. Stern/Levi has come to help U-D. The latter holds no hope of rescue and only expects a future of pointless destruction. That's her reason for being created. However, nobody could control her so she was sealed inside the Book of Darkness. Stern/Levi says that she knows the feeling since they were one with U-D once. The doomsday loli tells the Material to leave, since her power is too great and uncontrollable. If you pivk Levi, she admits that just getting power won't be worth it without a goal or enjoyment. If you pic Stern, she has absolute faith that Dearche can and will control U-D. The fight starts
It doesn't matter whether you win or lose. But you have to win with both Materials at least once to unlock Sequence X. (You also need to beat U-D with Hayate/Reinforce when she first appears.) U-D captures the Material fully in one of her claws, with Dearche screaming out her name.
However, the other Material will appear and uses an attack containing all their power with the anti-UD program cartridge. U-D shouts and tries to evade but is hit completely, however...
We get a very creepy scene that would be right at home with Higurashi or Umineko. The two Materials are pierced all over as U-D goes nuts and luckily flies away. Dearche rushes to her retainers' sides frantically.
Stern asks where U-D is. Dearche says that their plan worked and U-D made a run for it. She plans on pursuing and gaining control of the doomsday loli soon. The two urge her to hurry and not to mind them but Dearche will have none of it. She prepares to share her magic power with the two for them to recover. Levi says she can't and Stern follows up that it should be the other way around.
Stern and Levi start glowing as Dearche panics. The two are planning to give all their remaining power to their King... But that will cause them to disappear again.
Dearche says she doesn't need their power but Stern says they can no longer fight. That's why they're leaving the rest to their King. Levi says that it's always been Dearche's dream to get true power and freedom. Dearche berates the two, what kind of king is there without any followers? She desperately orders them to stop. Stern says she won't stop. If Dearche cannot be anything other than a King, then she and Levi cannot be anything other than her retainers. Levi says that their powers and dreams will be in Dearche's hands. The two share parting encouragements to their upset King.
The two disappear, leaving Dearche with multicolored wings filled with the powers of the Stars and Lightning. The now solitary King screams in anguish...
A short time later, our protagonists meet up with Dearche. Hayate anxiously asks if they can still come back as always. Dearche angrily says of course. She will not let them disappear just from this. She vows to use the power they left behind to take on U-D. She will not let anyone get in the way. Reinforce tries to dissuade her, saying that the remaining data of Stern and Levi are very unstable in the King right now. If she falls, then all three of them are gone for good. Dearche is in no mood to listen and threatens to kill the Unison Device. Hayate says they're allies and Reinforce is only worried about the Materials. The King still won't listen. Nanoha decides that if Dearche won't let herself be stopped, she'll just go with her. Hayate is surprised but Fate agrees, stating that the other two Materials did their best for the King after all. Signum agrees as well. It's better to have the numeric advantage. And Dearche is the only one capable of controlling U-D after all. Vita says that if it was them, they would be forced to destroy U-D and she doesn't want that. Chrono says that the chances of gaining control with Dearche is higher. Hayate requests her counterpart to work with everyone. Dearche says she'll definitely take control of the program and won't allow it to be destroyed. Amita and Kyrie appear and will help as well. Little sister Florian says that she's the cause of the crisis in the first place. King-sama says U-D is hers and won't hand it over to Kyrie. The pink Florian has already given up on U-D, though. So it's not a problem. She now acknowledges that they shouldn't mess with the time-space continuum. Vivio and Einhart want to help as well. Thoma joins in and says that the Divider is now back to full strength. Lily assures them that if it comes to anti-magic combat, she and Thoma would great assets. Kyrie confirms that the cartridge and multi-device users have Stern's anti-U-D program. Chrono tasks Shamal and Zafira for defense. Hayate tells them that since they don't carry the anti-U-D program, they should be extra careful if they get caught up in the thick of the battle.
Dearche, finally sounding like a proper royal for once tells them to prepared their spirits for the match. Once it begins, there's no going back. Nanoha and Fate nods affirmative as Mariel contacts Chrono, saying that they've found U-D's location. Chrono signals the start of the final battle...
Jeremiah Gottwald from Code Geass would be crying manly tears of LOYALTY if he ever plays this game and gets to this point.
But yeah, the Materials are awesome. It actually goes a little backward here when I rank them as characters. I like Hayate the best in the original trio and Nanoha is third during A's (Nanoha takes 2nd as an adult). But I like Stern best and Dearche the least for the Materials. I dunno. Dearche has the makings and potential of a great and charismatic ruler. But as it is right now, she's mostly a spoiled royal with too much power in her hands. (That, and Kana Ueda just had to use screechy tones whenever Dearche raises her voice a few octaves... I LOVE her Hayate voice to bits but Dearche's a little grating...) She DOES get a whole lot better after the events of this and the last sequence. But that's for another day to see.
Great translaton. Just want to add my own thoughts. Diarche is antagonistic against Hayate not only because she does not like her and did not want to own her anything. She notes that the help she would receive from Hayate will come with supervision and she hates it as it reminds her of being trapped in the book. Well, at least the materials are really close to each other as you can tell from Diarche's reaction to the death of Stern and Levi so it is not too bad.
No problem. Just wondering if you would translate the FBD dialogues in the Last Session as it kicks ass and all of them have interesting to say, both by Yuri and the people you select to fight her.
Sequence X? I pretty much have a basic idea of what Yuri says. I was planning on including those lines from Yuri when I do the review for Sequence X in the first place. They're just too golden to pass up. XD
Spoiler for Yuriii~~~~!!!!:
Why, oh why must she be so darned MOE?! She's the most darnedest adorable doomsday loli I've ever seen or heard! XD (Not to mention the most powerful.)
Sorry not Sequence X, but the one before. Do you want me to help you on that?
Spoiler for Yuri:
Yeah, she is damn cute, so it is a shame that she is force to see her powers going berserk and killing things and she can do nothing but watch. Interesting how much she and Touma were alike when the latter first go into Dark Knight mode.
Oh! Sequence 11? I know a few. But I guess I can gather them up easily enough later. It's not like I have to win against U-D to connect with a FDB. The 1st round characters may be a little difficult but I've already beaten her in the 2nd round with all the available ones. I'll include them in the Sequence 11 summary later, if that's Ok. =3
And yup, if you can also get some, it'll be a great help.
Spoiler for Yuri::
That's why Thoma's speech in the pre-battle portion really rings a bell. But the great part is he just proved that the Eclipse/Divider can indeed be used to save lives, not end it.
Chrono tasks Shamal and Zafira for defense. Hayate tells them that since they don't carry the anti-U-D program, they should be extra careful if they get caught up in the thick of the battle.
Well, consider the amount of damage that might occur in the battle, the two of them might have been sent to create a barrier to ensure minimum damage done to landscape perhaps. To note, it is damn easy to play through using Zaffy against the CPU. Just close your eyes and tap O and thats it.
Yuuno wasn't able to contain the damage caused by Nanoha, Fate and Hayate, and UB is supposed to be unbelievably stronger than EVERYONE combined.
In other news, Koveras Alvane from the Nanoha Wiki has identified the names that Yuuno shouts. His close-range catch seems to be called Wave Gazer (Wei-bu Gei-za) and his auto-counterattack might be Shield Bash (Shi-ru-do Ba-shu).
The second one is especially odd since Yuuno is clearly electrifying his opponent, not bashing them, and the circle on the other side of the target rather than working as a shield.
Anyway, this is the first time you can use the Materials IIRC. And that U-D battle has a lot of bs to it. You have to deplete her magic to start damaging her and she doesn't flinch until you do so. Not complicated with Stern, her version of the Buster helps, but with Levi is pretty difficult since all of her long range attacks eat magic, more so in her sprite form.
My GOD, Sequence 10 was a blast, i love Levi but Stern started to hit my "likeness" buttons like crazy on this route. Such loyalty and knight-like behavior, coupled with that cool attitude and stoic expression. Even in the face of destruction she just keep shouting up awesome stuff and that bit of snarky attitude that spices up her talks, she's definetely my new favourite Material xD!
