I got it to display the characters correctly but still get the error. At least now it's possible to read (not for me though )

Any idea what it says?

Well it's obviously something about that file... have a look at it. (you'll have to make your computer show hidden files)

Also, the text at the top of the bar is still messed up.

Edit: the file is about music copyright... are you missing it? It says it has an error opening it.

The file doesn't exist yet. It's trying to extract it from the exe.

Edit: Music copyright? There's no other file in the WAV folder other than the wavs and the Lp folder to the mp3s.

I don't have daybreak so I don't know for sure, the error msg says that paticular txt file had an error while openning the file. Probably re-intall? The file is either missing or corrupted for one reason or another.

Not Daybreak, it's Onikakushi-hen. Weird that it would give an error about opening the file, when the file was never extracted. I think I'm just screwed.

I've had a look at the file, and it's basically just a .txt telling you that the music is copyright and not to remove it. Maybe windows 98 doesn't like .txts in Japanese.

You're running win98?
I would suggest d/l and installing the Japanese IME for 98 but... since 98 isn't supported anymore, I have no idea if it still exists on the Microsoft page anymore.

Best suggestion, upgrade to win2k or XP or above.

It's probably because the filename is in Japanese. It doesn't have problem with the readme.

This computer is an old piece of junk that could never run anything above 98. I should be getting a new one this year. Anyway, thanks for the help.

Here is what I can dig up for Win98 japanese support:

International Configuration
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro....mspx?mfr=true

Appendix A - International Windows 98
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/arc....mspx?mfr=true

Microsoft Global Input Method Editors (IMEs)
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/...e/default.mspx

.NET Framework Version 2.0 Language Pack
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

I don't know which will work for your system but I would try in the order I placed above

I finally got the game working. I had my friend change the exe and txt filenames and send it to me. Putting filenames in Japanese = evil.

I just read wiki for like the sixth time and I just realized that Higurashi is coming out on the PS2 console. Does that mean it will also come out in english? Or is it already in english?

Not unless the series is ever licensed. Then there would be a chance.

How does paletweb.com exactly work? I'm trying to import the Answer arc CD (since the himeya shipping costs were ridiculous), and even though this site is supposedly cheaper I can't wrap my head around how I'm supposed to order. After I submit my order, how do they get my paypal information? Is it some sort of conversation that takes place via e-mail?

Pretty much. They email you the bill, and you pay by paypal. Then they send an email saying that they've dispatched it.

Well, the official site for the PS2 version has been updated with some new stuff, including the release date (well, I can't remember if that was there before) of December 21st (typical, the same day as Ys Origin. Best. christmas. ever.) and the extras included in the limited edition. As I can't read the thing any help would be appreciated but it looks like there'll be a special illustrated booklet (using the ps2 version's character designer), a set of 12 fancy postcards based on the in-game CGs, and the game itself.

Also, those who preorder will get a special ballpoint pen (with red ink) shaped like Satoshi's bat Who thought that up?

Does anyone have any idea what the heck is this?
[/img]

I was just testing the game skipping the text then at a certain point this message appears...
Is it because the name of the mp3 is in japanese?
Is there any way to solve it?
