Well, the two pictures depict my way of viewing the two relationships pretty closely.

AxR = Friendship, comradery, big brother/little sister
SxA = Love, romance, two lovers

I was thinking the same thing too. And the thing is, it's even clearer in the movie version. Alto/Ranka = established friends. Sheryl/Alto = (a bit vague to place them in the movie, but if we can call the picture above as a confirmation) -- having a deep connection/bond even though they've just met.

It's just a comparision of illustration from Macross-DYRL and the Frontier movie.
Basically, Sheryl and Misa are in the background, and Misa won the Love Triangle, so it could be interpreted as a clue that Sheryl will won against Ranka.
And while Minmay is embraced by Hikaru, she lose to Misa, so Ranka being embraced by Alto could imply she'll lose to Sheryl.

really?!for a second there I thought the opposite!!!haha, sorry MF is the only one I've watched out of the Macross saga...I'll try to watch the others once I have a lot of time...

It comes with new Newtype, no? The photos of NT are on the net, so it's only natural to have photos of the Fact File

I'm dead broke and was planning to save to buy new clothes and stuffs...but I ended up making an order in amazon.jp and get, between others things, the Newtype...
