The first two episodes have lots of action and drama, but without much time for character development. Episodes 3-4-5 are largely character development and setup for plot arcs will that pay off later in the series, but there's a big battle in episode 5. The series really hits its stride with episode 6 (which should be out later this week in fansubs), and if episode 8 bores you... well, not much is likely to satisfy you, then.

anyway , lots ppl like different things if ur interested in bleach/kiba or wth gundam , those fast action type shows , u'll probly dun like Simoun. glass no kantei might suit u better :P gonzo show so a lot of action ( i'm watching it btw LOL)

Check out the blogs summeries abt the show or watch more eps before deciding. a lot of shows dun get better until a few eps like Higurashi which i was bored stiff by the first ep + emo loli ewww .... i'm so hook on higurashi after the first arc (4ep) tho

First, a big thank you for the fansubs of episode four and five, amazing video quality, can't really comment about the translation.

As for episode 13 and Aaeru in general - I usually dislike characters who behave as she does, yet for some reason she never annoys me. All of her actions seem so natural and fitting for her personality that I cannot force myself to criticise them. Dunno if that makes any sense.

I find it kind of strange that prior to this episode no one had bothered to inform Aaeru of the details about Amuria's death. With so many people trying to get Neviriru's attention you'd expect all kinds of gossiping about her which would inevitably include the question of Amuria's death. Oh, well, maybe Aaeru doesn't like gossip.
The scene in which Aaeru got through the window into Neviriru's room was and proceeded to kiss her is an instant classic, IMO. As mentioned this kind of behaviour was so totally Aaeru-ish. Furoe's exasperation with Aaeru when she tried to explain to her about love was hilarious.
The other members of Chor Tempest should thank Tempust Spatium that Rimone is not as energetic as Aaeru, these two are too similar and would drive everyone mad with their direct approach to pretty much everything.

Makes perfect sense. I'm not sure why it works out that way, but being the seiyuu-worshipper I am, I give a lot of credit to the VA, Niino Michi, who is really a stage actress rather than a voice actress. Her voice and her approach to the character seemed quite strange at first, but made more and more sense as I got used to them. The sunny energy in her voice is amazing. In ep13 Aaeru just becomes stronger, stranger and more interesting than ever.

I think we're supposed to imagine that the subject of Amuria's death was so taboo they didn't even speak about it among themselves. Great comment about Limone. She and Aaeru together could be really scary.

Well, now I realize what makes this show so attractive to me.
I was rather bored by Jananese animes' characterization since most of characters are typical and single-dimensional and thus predictable.
Aaeru looks simple and single-minded at a glimpse, but actually intriguingly complex to me.

She seems to have a instinctive insight to others' inner side.
She knows what Neviril's problem is about. Her comments in the dining room (Because it gets you to recall Amuria's death) and in Neviril's room (memories useful for nothing) and even her reaction to Caimu's confession in ep 12 shows this Peter-Panish girl is not actually so immature.
But this is unpolished and never-refined insight, so it just brings hurts to others with her childlike straightness attached.
She accurately knows Neviril hasn't overcome Amuria's death, which closes her inside herself,
but scaringly ignorant of what mentioning it such a way will cause to Neviril.
So, her insight should be instinctive and it seems true she lacks the experience of sympathizing with others, to say harshly.

Yet, her ignorance about kiss was surprising because it didn't seemed in agreement to her reaction to the sisters' incest.
But that may show her separated priority in battle-related things.
To her, Kisses are defined only for battles and no more.

My interest now is whether she is gonna know what the liking Floe taught really is and to like Neviril that way.
I am positive because this show deals deeply with the theme of "growth."
She is the best solution for Neviril's problems in the long term, but if she only inspires Neviril to get out of them and stay herself as she is, it would half the value and smartness of this show, I think.

More of my thoughts from watching the show for the third time, since a Chinese speedsub was released.

Spoiler for ep 13, mostly putting the obvious things into words.:

I feel dense for not noticing the obvious Kaimu/Alti and Neviril/Aaeru parallel. The comparison illuminates their separate positions very nicely. In ep 12, Kaimu says the same thing Neviril says, that she won't be able to fly with this person. And she really isn't able to, because of her deep-seated discomfort with the events of that night. Dominura, in both cases, tells them it's for the good of the choir. It appears that not being able to fly with someone is a subconscious refusal (rejection, kyozetsu) to be on good terms -- whatever that means -- with her.

Though there's evidence on the other side as well: the reactions of the crew aren't seen by her; it's the audience who gets the slow pans and the scenes of Neviril in the rooms, not Aaeru, I think it's very likely that warainagara's right about Aaeru and her intuitive perceptiveness about people. She wouldn't have seen so clearly into Kaimu's situation otherwise.

On the bed scene again, remember Paraietta doesn't even get to touch Neviril in that early episode? LOL. How she must feel....

I was surprised that every single member of Tempest got a scene in ep 13. Even Morinas. Yun actually has quite a number of lines.

In the Yamibo boards, someone posted a huge image of the girls in their flight clothing, and hey, Aaeru and Limone wear the same blue coloured ... thingies on their legs! It's very apparent when they're sitting down talking about what they can do with their loved ones, heh.

She got over Neviril because she concluded that Aaeru would be better for her, and so she could safely turn Neviril over to her. Aaeru's actions in this episode... challenge that conclusion, to say the least. And if Neviril and Aaeru don't work out, that would make Neviril fair game for Paraietta again....

Sure, the seiyuu is indeed very important. If Aaeru's voice sounded too childish or "cute" in the silly, very high pitched way that seems to be so popular this might have been disastrous. There is a fine line between the character's voice sounding very energetic and determined and way-over-the-top-determined, i.e. flat out stupid, so far it hasn't been crosssed, IMO.
