tryed both ff an ie and i still get this.. it's starting to annoy me, i just paid 5$ for something that isn't working... kinda makes me want to never go near crunchyroll again...

So, I made a list of references, jokes, and parodies I could think of in the Omote version of the episode. Here's what I got:

Spoiler:

- His encounter with the Goddess Ishtar is drawn exactly like the Birth of Venus.
- Jil does a stupid Sentai hand-motion after gaining his armor. I think it's specifically from Kamen Rider but I could be wrong.
- Entire fake fight between Niva and Jil is a common occurrence in fantasy. Strong-willed leader gets beaten by hero that doesn't want to hurt people.
- They have Jil teleport behind Niva and then knock him out with an uppercut. Poking fun at random teleporting in shounen shows and best of all, the move Jil does looks like a damn Shoryuken with a boxing gloves.
- Niva's clothes rip apart leaving him in his boxers just like in Ghost & Goblins.
- Black Knight is the mid-season fantasy villain (that becomes a good guy) and they make fun of the dialogue in anime and games when he goes

<Black Knight> I'm going to kill you all!
<Jil> What did you say!?
<Black Knight> You didn't hear me?
<Jil> No, I did.

- Black Knight also looks like a damn Zaku.
- Utu says "I'm gonna go back to my home town and get married after the battle is over" That's the kiss of death in RPGs and fantasies.
- Jil uses the Sonic Blade technique even though he made fun of it earlier.
- Everyone else puts goggles on while he's charging up making fun of how giant explosions that could literally blind you occur so often but no one ever protects their eyes.
- Stupid Jil speech about the Black Knight's fighting being full of sadness. Typical fantasy/RPG junk.
- Stupid Jil does a RPG timeskip by saying "Then 10 years later"
- Not a specific reference but the fact that Niva let Fatina get groped by the roper was hilarious.
- Quox encounter is fairly typical of fantasy series. See Ryu Knight for this encounter too.
- Black Knight shows up as good guy.
- Black Knight says the death flag line too.
- Giant sihlouette in the sky.
- Sentai team made up of the various Druaga Knights.
- They get surrounded and Niva will delay the enemies but instead, Jil punches him and leaves the unconscious Niva to get eaten by the monsters.
- The last minute confession of love!
- Druaga with the Star Wars reference "I AM YOUR FATHER JIL!"
- NicoNico reference for anyone that's used that service.
- Random guy that comes to save the day, this time it's the Innkeeper.
- Super Robot transformation with Imaishi animation, everyone should get this.
- Evangelion Wings + GaoGaiGar Squeak Mallet.
- Stupid last minute "My friends are all with me and take their feelings" attack sequence with extended falling.
- Note the GnG boxers again in the sequence.
- 16-bit sprite for the preview.

For me, the I was able to download the files after I've set the c_cc cookie set by crunchyroll.com to US (it was correctly set to CH before). You can do this either by using a command-line tool like curl or by downloading the Edit Cookies Firefox addon.
I've edited the cookie immediately before starting the download to make sure the site couldn't reset it.

There seem to be fair amount of people having problems with the download and there's is no official reason why downloads should not be working if you're living outside of Japan.
If you're in Japan it seems you can't even view the stream and probably can't even make the donation. In this light, I consider this a temporary workaround until crunchyroll fixes the bug.

anyone else think Druaga is going to be like .hack, where the characters are all playing in a game.
Only reason i say this is cause....
1)the OP and
2) official English website states "defeat the demon, save the kingdom-and don't forget those extra lives!"
.....or maybe they're just playing homage to the old arcade game

who knows, regardless I'm in for another 2-3 episodes

I watched up to the eyecatch on Youtube so far and while the art in general seems worse than even some early 80's series and the comedy hit and miss, I have liked the part where Utu announces his own death essentially and the parts following that with the overly long attack charge up and the "kill me" "No I don't want to" part. All classic cliches, but then again the parody seems unnecessary. I don't know, I'll finish the episode once I get back from work and we'll see what I think then.

I think it's just making fun of the game's origins, but really this early in the show who can say what they'll do.

Personally I found the show quite charming. Once it became obvious that the first episode was a parody I expected the show to take an Order of the Stick style approach to storytelling. (There's no 'real world' as such but the characters are, on some level, aware that their universe functions as a roleplaying game and follows the appropriate rules and cliches)

Either way it's an interesting direction for the first episode and suggests that, even if it's more serious from now on, it's still going to have a sort of wink, wink, nudge nature to itself. Probably for the best since the serious D&D fantasy epic has pretty much been done with the Lodoss franchise and its kin.

I do think that the main character is playing an online game of some sort *cough*WoW*cough*

My imagination was running wild when identifying all the class types

There are different scenes of a normal life style outside of the fantasy world which makes me think so. Or it could be yet another twist and have the real word being a dream from the main character who is fighting in the fantasy land. Would be a genius twist!

I hope someone can sub the ura version soon. With my broken Japanese language ability, I somehow managed to understand most part of the ura version. It was also very funny in its own way. However, the most amazing thing is that they actually synchronized the Jil's lines in both versions. Therefore if you play both version side by side, you will hear Jil saying the same lines in the same time. This certainly added to the comedian effects. I cannot help laughing out loud while watching the first version. However, when I was watching the ura version, I actually rolled crazily in the floor since it was too hilarious...

In the Ura version I liked how Jil was compared to a haunted doll that just keeps coming back. Totally useless yet you just can't get rid of him.

Hmmmm, I wasn't planning on watching this show, but since I heard it makes fun of RPGs cliches, I just had to watch the YouTube video.

With that said, I though the show had some funny moments, but I am still not sure if I am gonna keep watching this all the way to the end.

Agreed. I was laughing at all the references and everything too. The cliches were so spot on, and reminded me again, why the stories I write, try and stay away from them.

Haven't seen the other version of the episode though, need to do that as it sounds worth watching too.

BTW, has anyone mentioned that even the guy's name 'Jil' itself is a parody of the orignial hero 'Gil'? Thought to say it for completion sake. Even the heroine's name Kaya is a parody of the original herione Ki (pronoucned as KAI).
