Sasami knows her mum is just a victim like her. That's why she was never angry at her specifically, but at the whole family.
At this point Sasami's dad has given up and washed his hands of the whole business. And Sasami's mum is not likely to be a threat again. So I consider this matter settled and the only thing left is family reconciliation. I couldn't help it and read up on many future spoilers that will not be touched on in this season. Obviously I can't mention them here even under spoiler tags, so I just wish for a 2nd season so we can cover the plot twists. Let's just say I find Mi-chan (provisional) a very interesting character.

I never expected Sasami's mom to come back so soon, and much less to make peace with her daughter. She finally understood her Sasami's feelings. She was mistaken about her. She wasn't being lazy nor spoiled, she thought deeply about her role and came to the conclusion she should abandon her duty as a shrine maiden and trust the gods.
Sasami temporarily gave Amaterasu's power back to Juju because she believes she's still too young and inexperienced to handle it. Which is not wrong if you think back to all the problems she inadvertently caused.

Sasami-san@Ganbaranai 09 - Back in Time
That time travel montage was pretty well done. I think this arc with Sasami's mom is finally concluded, but the seeds were laid for the next storyline to begin. And as usual, Shaft can produce some great imagery. That scene with Tsurugi above the clouds captured the ethereal feeling, a mixture of weightlessness and the desires of the entire world, at once. Whether it's intentional or not, I can't help but to hear the name of the evil occult group as "Akihabara". The letters can even be rearranged to spell "Akihabara"... which is something that people in Japan likely noticed a long time ago. Coincidence? Almost certainly. But the internet was crucial in Sasami's development, so perhaps... Jou should make an interesting antagonist for the last few episodes. Her hammy "take over the world" shtick looks entertaining. |

Arahabaki: A minor local deity in North Eastern Japan. Has an uncertain and disputed history.
Dogu: Clay doll found all over Japan that was fodder for ancient astronaut urban legends. A lost religion with no known deity or religious practice recorded anywhere. In the modern era, these two unrelated mythology had been combined. Dogu gained a deity, Arahabaki gained a history. But only in fiction in the likes of videogames and anime like Devil survivor and Digimon. (And now, Sasami-san.) Arahabaki was worshipped by a mortal enemy of a Japanese Emperor, and due to the resulting war it became collateral damage; Arahabaki worship became banned for many, many years. Thus lay the cause for antagonism between Arahabaki and Shinto in this anime.

Hoo, so the mystery about the brother remains. It's neat when he ups his hostility. He hasn't really done anything so I didn't think of him as dangerous. But Edogawa's reaction suggests he's not totally unthreatening.
And he didn't hide his face from Sasami at the end. Interesting. |

tsurugi as Amaterasu is just too cute....
ahaha I lolled at Tama's solution, throw the bag away and use the underwear to cover your face ^^ oh for the first time brother's face is uncovered! during the snow shoveling scene. but it's too far... does it mean the mother is somewhat alive, emerging from fat sasami, and also has the Amaterasu power back again.? i guess...

Edogawa Jou. A fitting name.
The hint is her strange hair articles, I called them [Ancient Alien Statues] when I was a child, so I started googling for the actual answer. Dogū are small humanoid and animal figurines made during the late Jōmon period (14,000–400 BC) of prehistoric Japan. Their purpose remain unclear, but they were theorized to be like effigies of people in that era. They were made exclusively during this period, and vanished thereafter. That's why Edogawa's name is Jou. Now, just what is she? So let's gather the clues: 1) Dogu resemble space suits and were called ancient aliens. 2) Jou talks about invasion and stuff. 3) There was a segment about Tama getting involved with a UFO earlier. So: Jou is a Martian who buried her warmachines the Dogu in ancient Japan and bided her time and now shall activate them because its SHINRYAKU NO JIKAN DA. Exterminate! Exterminate! Kagami: Unyaa. What nonsense are you talking about?

Also, is Juju now "back" and currently holding Amaterasu's power again? That seemed to be the suggestion there. Right? |
