A Desperado boss appeared in the end. I think it's the ninja that sliced his arms.

Sorry, maybe trash talking isn't the right term, but what I meant that attitude like challenging the polices to lure them into fighting him, and being pleased for that. Coupled with the maniac laughter at the end of the video.

I find that doesn't suit him at all. While on the other hand, his past as a child soldier was never revealed before in both MGS2 and 4, it's just sad that they chose to make "Jack the Ripper" persona like the typical hack and slash protagonist which is PlatinumGames' speciality. But if that's how his "Jack the Ripper" persona was intended from the start by KojiPro, then I'm simply disappointed since they could come up with better idea.

But of course, I haven't known the whole story of the game, so there might be a believable reason why he reverted to his old persona. I'm particularly curious about his duel with Samuel Rodriguez.

Raiden as child was trained to kill. His trademark was ripping and slashing in this backstory, one reason why MGS2 Snake gave him the sword. Pretty much every Metal Gear game is a setup to the next sequel and prequel.

Also now Kojima see's himself old, that's the reason why he'll be working with BigBoss and Solid Snake in future MGS games.

I was under the impression that his history as a child soldier was common knowledge like ever since? Even I who had never played MGS2 and only seen walkthroughs of MGS4 knew that. And both Platinum and Kojima have revealed very early on that Raiden would be reverting back to his character as the Ripper over the course of this game

Also, I'm not exactly sure what you would expect someone named 'Jack the Ripper' to behave.

Not gonna lie I'm a big sucker for good theme songs (openings, inserts, etc.) And that trailer was making the game look better.

It is common knowledge. But throughout both games, what he was like as Jack the Ripper has never been seen. No visual flashbacks or even "voices" from his memory. All we get is a description that he was a child soldier and a killer.

A cold one like Battousai you mentioned is more prefereable to me.

I think I get what happens in the trailer. Raiden learned that a Colorado senator named Steven Armstrong was involved in Desperado's activities as proved in that teaser video and tries to kill him. However, that's illegal and he becomes a criminal. Since he is getting close to Armstrong Raiden is attacked by Monsoon in the end.

Also, as an easter egg:

"The eighties... the civil war. You were one of the best among the child soldiers that fought in that conflict. When you were barely ten years old, you became the leader of the small boys unit. At the time, your outstanding kill record earned you several nicknames including White Devil and Jack the Ripper.

Jack... I was your godfather, I named you. When the war ended, you disappeared from the relief center. I wondered what happened to you... I should've known they would recruit you."

Solidus Snake to Raiden, Metal Gear Solid 2

Raiden and Rose later talk that the former's memories were sealed by the Patriots to act like a normal guy. Since the Patriots are gone it's possible that they are coming back. The only time we see Raiden as a kid is in the comic version of Metal Gear Solid 2 where he sang Happy Birthday by Solidus in the most disgusting way possible but we just see his terrified persona.

The mid 2012 trailer used Depeche Mode's "Wrong." Wonder if they are using it or just another. After all, all Metal Gear games since Solid 1 have had main theme songs.
