There's probably a lot of peoples inside the LAPD that would want to do the same. Maybe even if he have hostages.

apparently there is no hostage, as they've shot tear gas and sent in the SWAT team, and the cabin may be on fire as well. Guess we'll see what happens real soon.

I dunno...they do seem pretty terrified of Dorner.
After all, they're shooting like scared little bitches at anybody who even comes close to resembling this guy...you know, little old Asian ladies delivering news papers, white guys, anybody who looks like a 6 foot tall, 200+ pound black dude.

Imagine what's they'd do if they were opposed by a few dozen pissed off gun owners...

But you know the saying, power corrupts. This is why when people toss out the whole "nah, the military will revolt with us if the government turns evil!", I laugh. Some might, but many won't. There's more historical precedent that police and military will turn on their own people when ordered than there is those who mass desert in protest. Not saying it's impossible, but those ties, they run deep.
Actually I'd say they'd fragment into several groups.
The largest would be supported by the miltiary industrial complex and they'd oppose both the "Progressives" calling for gun control and the "Constitutionalists" wanting to return to the constitution.
It'd be kinda like the Weimar Republic prior to the Nazis, only a lot more violent and instead of Nationalist Socialists, we'd have Internationalist Corporatists taking over.
That's why I want to see the gun control crowd back off.
From all I've read thus far, the military industrial complex (people like Grover Norquist) know the era of the Neo-Cons is over and they are chomping at the proverbial bit to start civil unrest to implement what they want.
Real scary when you look at it.

Lets face it. Up to this final shootout, Dorner managed to successfully engage two different groups of police officers on separate occasions, then manage to successfully disengage. The fact he did it a third time shouldn't be a surprise (as horrific as the consequences have been...).

It's really not a surprise that they're setting the cabin on fire. In a barricade situation against a guy with Dorners skills, the guy on point is almost garunteed to killed or injured. In this kind of situation you burn the guy out.

Instead of setting that cabin on fire, could the authorities have used gas (as someone suggested it previously)? From the moment it was confirmed that there is no hostage, I don't see why not using something like fentanyl for this. Spare me the cabin for this.

I'm not so sure how well you could rely on the US military. Consider the Bonus Army.

When asked to attack Veterans, the army sided with the government and attacked with cavalry, tanks and teargas; and that's not even touching the Business plot.

He's in San Bernardino. I don't see what the LAPD wants has to do anything here.

They didn't, seems like it was a flashbang. Tear gas is all fine and dandy for crowd control and smoking someone out, not so much for breaching. I'm not aware of fentanyl use by law enforcement in the US, but IIRC its use didn't end too well for quite a few people in Moscow.

Nevermind that fact this operation is run by the county sheriff, not LAPD.

That's because McArthur thought the "Bonus Army" were a bunch of communists...and our military hate communists.

The answer is simple, ratings! Olympic wrestling is boring to the new generations used to the WWF antics. I bet they are considering adding female mud wrestling to replace said event.

Yep, you just need to label a group to be able to torch them, worked wonders for the Nazi party and will work wonders once the USA implements media control like the one the chinese have.

What the Russians lacked in Moscow was the presence of antidotes in the process of quick response. But once you have them around in sufficient quantities as part of the protocol of use of narcotic analgesics, it should be fine.

I read the US military have fentanyl as an analgesic/a painkiller, so I don't think it would be far out of reach for special LE/HRT units.

edit: the fact that they are burning down the cabin is making things look more suspicious for the public IMO.

The blue fraternity likely has a big mad on for Dorner, so them intentionally trying to kill him by torching the cabin is likely.

...there's also the fact that considering Dorners police/military training and how much preparation time he's presumably had, it'd have bee trivial for him to have packed a gas mask in a duffel bag. Does fentanyl work through skin contact?

The Sherrifs department has just as much reason to wanna kill Dorner as the LAPD. Those two guys Dorner shot up before barricading himself in the cabin were county police I believe.

Joseph Ratzinger, Pope Benedict XVI, resigned, the first in almost six hundred years, stunning the Roman Catholic Church.

Given the recent history of the Church, there's going to be a hellstorm of speculation beyond the official "health" reason.

And just before Lent, at that. Curious timing.

The first pope since Clement XII (1415) to resign.

For now, they say Canadian Cardinal Marc Ouellet is favorite to become the next Pope, but that could change next week should new criteria become known.

And dressage does have ratings?

There are events that could be cut from the summer Olympics, but I don't think wrestling is the top of that list (instead, perhaps the wrestling body should do a better job of advertising itself). Other sports I'd get rid of first:
Water Polo, all Equestrian sports, Basketball, Field Hockey, Soccer (Olympic Soccer can't beat the World Cup), Modern pentathlon, Shooting (though I respect the sport, it's not athletic even compared to archery). Generally, I don't think the "Field team" sports (like Soccer, Basketball etc.) really fit into the Olympics.

And while wrestling in the US is heavily associated with the WWF, that is not true of the rest of the world, where WWF is far less well known.

Wrestling (popular) has a decidely "professional wrestling" slant in many countries (including Japan as seen via Kinnikuman) along with the influance of Latin American wrestling luchadores.
