Looking for SAD ,SAD /depressing anime!

Dear anime suki members,

As the title says,

Im looking for an anime that is really exciting and it must be very sad.(triller)

Phantom:reqiuem for the phantom and rumbling hearts (Kimi ga Nozomu Eien) are examples

I really prefer romance/mystery into it.

And as always don''t come with clannad .
I HATE CLANNAD EYES :P

Blood+
Shinrei Tantei Yakumo
Rainbow

1 is action with lots of drama
2 is school life/SoL/mystery with enough drama
3 is prison life. No need to expand on that...

Also, this, this, this, that, this again and that one are all easy to find via search. Hope they help~

Wouldn't call it depressing, but Honey and Clover is a great emotional anime (the second season especially, but they're both really good).
A lot of people will probably mention Grave of the Fireflies.
Saikano is depressing.
Elfen Lied perhaps, even though it's mostly known for blood/gore and nudity, it has a good story and plenty of sad moments.
Fullmetal Alchemist actually has a lot of sad and depressing moments as well. Same goes for FMA: Brotherhood naturally (which I would suggest over the first).
True Tears maybe. It's a romance with some sad moments, but it's not near the level of Kimi ga Nozomu Eien in terms of sadness. (or Clannad, Kanon and Air)
Bokurano is more depressing than sad, but yea. It works.
While possibly not what you want, I have to admit that Gunbuster (and Diebuster) often gave me chills, including their endings.

RahXephon depresses some people. Koi Kaze does too. Um, Saikano. Most of them have already been mentioned so.

Noein - If you can get past the quantum babbles, you've got one of the best anime. It also had one of the most satisfying ending.

Shiki - In my opinion one of the perfectly executed horror anime. It's true that the character design is an acquired taste and the plot takes a long time to build up but very memorable towards the end and satisfying.

Gankutsuou - Originally based on the Monte Cristo but a very different take. The art is trippy and the story takes a bit of time to build up but great towards the end.

All three has some romance as well as mystery.

Seconding Rainbow for impressively comprehensive despair, and Shiki for sheer excellence. The most depressing of all, though, has to be Grave of the Fireflies.

Well I find Houshin Engi/Soul Hunter to be pretty sad. It's a shounen and has action in it. Mushi-Uta is also sad and exciting and contains some romance elements.

Just to give another opinion now and then

Grave of the Fireflies was interesting for sure, but not too depressing.
Spoiler for Grave of Firefly:

It is totally worth the watch anyway!

Could try Wolf's rain But it has little romance and its genre's arent probably what your looking for as there Adventure, Post-apocalyptic, Supernatural, but it is very sad all the way through learning about the characters stories and at the end its you should check it out. It wont dissapoint.
Grave of the fireflies will get my vote too it is very sad, but I didnt find it as depressing as Wolf's rain.
