There's really nothing wrong with experience gaining or item gaining DLC. It's not required, it doesn't change the story any, and you aren't required to purchase it. Or does other people being able to beat a game that they otherwise wouldn't somehow diminish its quality? Don't pull an elitist card here, we aren't talking about multiplayer games or anything.

Well there's nothing wrong with being naive sometimes :P just keeping a positive thought. Even if we're not free of DLC contents forever, free DLC is still great ofc.

Edge Meltdown, I don't think you're naive, I think people are generalizing this one category of digital goods into an "always a bad thing" concept.

DLC on some games, typically cheap games, also allows them to keep a low price point knowing it will gather in potential buyers and fans are fine with buying the extras as DLC (along with happy buyers being happy to buy the DLC too). So long as it's not in bad taste (crucial story elements, as an example) there's nothing really wrong with DLC, more people buying means more people playing, larger communities and so on. Aesthetics are also nice as DLC since the price gives it a sense of rarity; sure a lot of people will have it, but a lot of people will also not have it.

Of course since most DLC is slapped on 60$ titles (or more, if you buy special packs) and given that titles going for more then 60$ is mortal sin, the perspective of it lowering the price is very foggy and DLC has a pretty bad reputation at the moment. And don't get me wrong, I do think that if you're going to go for the 60$ price you should make damn sure you keep to your budget and don't need DLC at all, and especially not launch DLC (unless it's a port, and the other system had DLC, in which case it's preferred if the DLC is integrated or available).

The naivety was hoping/believing that more time to develop games would lead to a decrease in DLC due to having time to put them on the disc. That would be true for some free DLC, but most DLC is DLC because they can make more money. Has nothing to do with time. And this statement is beyond "good" or "bad", it's about "money". I'm not stating validity, just reality.

In my defense I did explain how, in a sense, it was all about money.

Well yeah it breaks the game. Game was easy anyway, DLC isn't needed at all. Not even for Lunatic+ but it sure makes you far less of a masochist on Lunatic+ if you have DLC as it was poorly balanced early on in the game.

One of my most burning questions about the system, which I can't seem to find the answer to:

Was there any mention of the Dualshock 4's D-Pad? Is it going to be as clickly and responsive as Vita's awesome one?

Nice, also they've said that the trailer was running from an in game engine (so basically a cut scene using the game's graphics) and that it uses the same models for gameplay.

The hands on I've seen don't touch much on it but looking at them I'm betting they are closer to the Dualshock 3 ones than the Vita ones.

Example: The Verge

An 80 million user base that's how it makes sense. Sony will not just abandon the PS3.

Also Kazunori has not ruled out a PS4 version of GT6. It will come.

The same reason Pokemon White/Black Version 2 came out for the DS instead of the 3DS: you make more money of an engine you already have and you reach a wider number of potential buyers

Sony is facing high demand for the PS4, may have issues fulfilling orders.

Glad I got my pre-order in on Amazon before the "Pre-order" button was even available (had to click "available from these sellers", choose amazon, and proceed from there). Even if I don't want to keep it this early in the cycle, seems like it may be an easy flip.

What is the PS4 actually launching with? It seems like most of the titles they've announced don't actually have solid release dates yet.

I just looked it up. It seems most game companies still have a TBA on their launch day. So you probably don't know what games are truly available until 1 month before release.
