Kamichu! manga is serialized in the seinen(young men's) manga magazine Dengeki Daioh.

The manga is being scanlated by Dynasty Scans group.
For now 6 chapters have been scanlated: Manganews.

The first volume of Kamichu! manga will be released this month (January 2006).

In an idyllic town by the Japanese Inland Sea, people are living peacefully along with the local kami (shinto deities), mononoke and other spirits.
One day during lunch, middle schooler Hitotsubashi Yurie abruptly announces to her friend that she has become a kami. This causes the elder daughter from the local shrine to immediately announce her new "best friendship" to Yurie, and that they`ll be partners in business!

This is the story of the now not-so-ordinary everyday life of Yurie and her friends trying to figure out exactly what kind of kami she even is. But Yurie also has another problem, she still can`t get the boy she likes to notice her!

I've just started reading the scanslations for this series. It's pretty cute. I do find it a bit disjointed, though. Also, I'm not always 100% sure what the characters are doing from the art.

But overall it's pretty good. The dialog looks simple enough that I could probably handle it, so I may pick up the Japanese book next time I'm buying manga (oh no! another series).

I assume the anime of the same name was on the same topic? Never saw it (and it looks like the fan subbers never finished the series). Does the story ever start to gel? So far it's just been a series of cute incidents.

And several years later... I happen to acquire volume 2 of the series.

Damn now I really wish the anime adaptation had been longer --- there's a tremendous amount of good stuff (especially with the secondary characters) that could have been animated.

It appears only two volumes have been collected... (2006, 2007) ... so I guess its off to find scanlations to see if any more was released :P
edit: nope... only two volumes were ever released it seems -- very sad.

I really enjoyed the story, but then it seems two of the accredited authors have never produced new work, one doesn't dab in this genre anymore, and the actual illustrator does more hentai than actual work (even though his hentai drawings are quite nice too <__<).

I'll say he does draw quite well.... Matsuri is quite stunning in many frames and Miko is cute as a bug. Ah well.... at least I got the anime and what there is of the manga now.
