Honestly? After the Negima movie, I think it's best to let manglobe handle it. Aside from them being more competent, I think that it would look better and Shaft doesn't need another hit series under their belt. Manglobe on the other hand needs something to put food on the table ...

If it's an original story from the original manga author, I guess it depends on whether it's supposed to fit into the existing universe (so expand it in some way), or if it's an "alternate take" on the universe (sort of like Negima!?). I suppose it could be unfortunate for manga fans who were hoping to see certain particular chapters animated, but could still be interesting taken on its own.

Let's be realistic now. We are assuming things with too few information.
As a friend of mine said, japanese can easily be misunderstood if we don't know the right context of the words.

Spoiler for A little briefing:

The last episode of Season 2 corresponds to the chapter 148.
"The End of the World" arc is chapter 178 to 187
The "Golden Week" goes from chapter 211 to 266
In-between, we have many and many fillers, some even inside the arcs themselves.

So, basically we have from chapter 148 to 266 as a whole "big" arc..

If they really want to fit all of this into one season (what is I think they want to do), it would require MANY changes, that could even be considered a "new take" on the story. In this scenario, we would have a more condensed and no-fillers plot. This is just speculation of my part, but it's the only explanation that makes sense to me.

OR, they can just skip all the fillers stories and focus on the important stuff like in the second season which frankly isn't the worst idea and have worked out pretty well.

But the most damning piece of evidence is why would they need to "emphasizes that it will be a "completely new Hayate the Combat Butler" based on Hata's original concepts." or specifically mention that this "...not refer to the new anime as the third season as Hata once did before then".

(Admittingly the latter does sound kind of making a big deal out of a small thing, but certainly not the former)
