Plot Summary

After 2000 years has passed, the ruthless demon lord has just been reincarnated! But his aptitude at an academy for nurturing candidates for demon lords is, “inept”!?

Having the capability to destroy humans, elementals, and gods, after a long period of countless wars and strife, Arnos the demon lord became sick and tired of all that and longed for a peaceful world, so he decided to reincarnate to the future.

However, what awaited him after his reincarnation is a world too used to peace that his descendants became too weak due to a huge weakening in magical powers.

Oh thank goodness. I was going through first episodes thinking "these are ok" and waiting for something either awesome or hilarious to show up. This one definitely fit into at least one if not both of them.

This was just hilarious. It is a challenge to make an OP character work, but right now I'm having a blast with it. The main character's attitude is just straight up perfect. His parents are a total hoot and Misha is very cute.

I mean we had the guy punch his ticket into the school by massacring his opponent and just spamming revives. By the end of that test, his opponent may have been able to give ReZero's Subaru a run for his money on coming back from the dead .

It was just a good time overall. Biggest problem for the main character right now is that his 2000 year old jokes are falling flat. He might want to buy some joke books to catch up on the latest trends.

Overall, that really wasn't bad.

Makes me wonder why he's labeled a "misfit". Perhaps he answered all the questions about the demon king according to his firsthand knowledge and they judged most if not all to be wrong? Could be interesting if it turns out that around 90% of the "common knowledge" about him is completely wrong, and would make sense after 2000 years. I hope it's not just because he shorted out the magic device and was measured to have "zero" magic.

But yeah, it can be difficult to write an OP character. As I see it, you need to make sure that the audience expects it and give them a reason to watch besides your standard concern about whether he'll succeed or at what cost. This so far is doing that; it helps that the main character knows full well that he's entirely beyond the rest of them, so he doesn't hesitate or show any real concern about things. It's entirely clear from the forefront that he knows he's a giant among ants.

As far as this episode goes, it was wasted 20 minutes. At the moment I can't decide whether I should give it second chance or do something actually fun.

I expected an OP main character, but the MC far exceeded those expectations. So far he works for me for a simple reason: he has a fun and playful personality, unlike Onii-sama from Mahouka who is all serious business. I loved the three second rule joke, in particular because it was supposed to be a joke on his part. Too bad no one in this world gets it.

I thought his mom looked awfully young and no wonder she does, he's only a month old

I think it's both. Only Misha could tell the crystal broke because his power was too much, and before it broke it displayed "zero" so that's probably what the academy recorded. And yeah, I'm pretty sure his life has been completely distorted over the years. I'm probably reading way too deep into this but this could be a criticism of religion, where sacred texts can sometimes be interpreted in completely different ways.

Putting aside that this is just another typical, braindead Narou story, I am also surprised at how fast the "story" was.
I mean, Narou lovers aren't exactly... you know?
I don't think rushing through the story at the speed of light (I'd say this could have been dragged into at least two episodes, with a little more build-up) was a good idea.

Actually, I think by rushing the story and making it so you don't understand the story, thus preventing the mental torture that would be caused by the terrible story...

^ Sadly, this amount of compression is "normal" for anime adaptations of light/web novels. I'm guessing this is because many light/web novel story arcs simply aren't designed to fit neatly into 12 episodes.

• The battle with Leorg's pureblood posse is supposed to happen immediately after the first exam opponent, not after the dinner scene. Though it did give us an early preview of the Iris spell.
• They cut out the scene before Anos used reincarnation magic, where he struck a truce with the other races. I hope the studio brings it back as a flashback in the next episode.
• A shame they didn't fully animate the scene where he's reborn as a baby. His parents' reactions were gold.

Wow, I've seen some overpowered protagonists in my day, but Anos really walked in and owned the place almost immediately. Confidence, swagger, experience, and all the power to throw around along with it. Tatsuhisa Suzuki also has his natural confidence and personality down perfectly. Definitely the type I could believe is a Demon Lord reincarnated as a teenager .

Man, with all these owls I thought these kids were going to Hogwarts, except they talk .

Did I hear Sayuri Yahagi and Mai Nakahara as the owls? Anos' mom sounded like Aki Toyosaki too .

Y'know, Zepes was a giant tool, but even I started to feel bad for him with all those deaths, revives, getting zapped to death by his brother, and then getting revived as a zombie. That's a lot for one guy to have to deal with in their first episode .

Misha seems like she'll be a cute and interesting Heroine. She's quite and stoic and seems like she'd be the meek type, but she's really perceptive and appears to have great magical capability (on-top of having ice magic). I'm definitely eager to see her in action and how her relationship with Anos will proceed. They're already friends and he already brought her to meet his parents .

I never expected a reincarnated Demon Lord to have such embarrassing and adorable parents. They not only took his growing into a teenager after a month of being born like champs, but they had the perfect reaction to him bringing a girl home .

Anos Voldigoad. A Demon Lord who believes in family values and jokes that were only funny 2,000 years ago .

I'm guessing the "Queen of Destruction" is our second female lead with her fire magic. Seems like we've got a triangle dynamic of sorts going on with Anos and the two girls, which makes me curious to see what this girl is like and how the relationships will develop among the trio .

I'm not against OP protagonists but I already find Anos way more entertaining than I ever found Tatsuya .

I think the clincher was probably his answer to the "who is the most worthy Demon Lord candidate" question.

You should treat this as a good thing.
The earlier portion of the this novel are its most boring part, so rushing it over ASAP is good.
Plus, there isn't anything for the viewers to understand anyway. As in seriously nothing worth your mempry is going to happen until like what, chapter 3?

I prefer the "more-action-less-talking silent type" MC myself, but yeah, Anos is not bad. In an episode where other characters are boring cardboards, his (& his parents') antics do entertain me.
