You know, quite frankly, I don't understand some of you guys. You'd rather have a triangular ending than the ending given to you. Then you say you want AruSherri. Now I'm even hearing some of you would've preferred AruRan or even Ranka taking Sheryl's place. Honestly, have any of you ever realized that Ranka is human too? I mean, bashing like that and saying she should be the one suffering just makes me puke. It's like we forget about being human when we speak.

I'm very curious about the plot. How do the Vajira and Frontier get in conflict again? Grace doesn't seem to be the great manipulator anymore, is she? Also, do the Vajira still have a home planet or are they just living on that Boldolza type fortress?

I agree with the sentiment, but remember...Ranka's NOT a human being...she's a cartoon character.

Megumi Nakajima, on the other hand...the snarky things said about her on this board REALLY go too far sometimes, I think.

I didn't really pick up on how or why they attacked again...sorry. Ranka sings "Aimo" at the beginning, though. I'm sure that has something to do with it...

I think Grace had AMBITIONS of power, but they didn't quite work out.

The discussion about Rankas character flaws does not belong in this thread and is, in my case at least, limited to TV Ranka. I actually liked movie Ranka. So I don't really know what you are upset about here.

As for what we want, I personally would have liked a good ending for my favoured couple without the typical cliched anime bittersweetness.

No, I understand that she's a character. But if she was human, you'd all basically be saying she should be the one in pain. Me, being a person who lost someone dear to me multiple times, I know how she feels. But she does a good job (from what I hear about the movie) holding back the pain.

As for Nakajima, yeah; she's been talked about a lot. In many different ways.

Though, I'd like to ask... someone mentioned that Ranka and Alto go on a date? What made that happen? As I recall, nothing of that sort happened in the series. Also, I'm intrigued to know what happened to figure out how Kawamori suddenly went to AruSherri? I want to know both sides of the same story.

Well, I'd like to say that he always was with SherylxAlto. But I think I am too angry still to do that. Him doing the "tragic separated lovers" thing kinda tells me the contrary, that he indeed felt he was being bullrushed into an SxA ending against his personal wishes and this was his way of giving the fans the middle finger.

Or I am just a tad bitter at the moment, who knows...

No, magnuskn, I feel the same way. Kawamori's interview said "it has to have an ending". He felt forced to do an AruSherri ending. Which, to most fans, seemed to confuse them. After all, they forgot that Ranka was the main character (the one he built the series around) when they saw Sheryl. No offense to any of you. But they didn't realize that Kawamori was trying to somehow please the fans whilst also going with his original choice. Which is why 3/4 of both movies is AruRan.

Actually, the ending makes me cry. Honestly, even though it's not the ship I support... it's just sad that Sheryl is left alone like that, in a coma. And Alto... he's one of my favorite male characters. That was just BS.

Oh please stop with the bittersweet ending = Kawamori being forced against his wishes argument I see being peddled around mainly by Ranka fans. Escaflowne and Macross Zero had bittersweet endings as well.. I guess Kawamori was forced against his wishes of having Allen and Mao endings I haven't finished the series but from what I hear Aquarion's ending was also bittersweet.

I think there is a post of mine from around the time of the tv series where I said I wouldn't be surprised by a bittersweet ending since Kawamori has done them quite often. I cbf looking for it since I've probably done over a thousand posts in this forum alone easily but yeah... just drop this argument, it has no legs period based on Kawamori's past works.

TLDNR BleachOD and friends on that forum, he's done it before numerous times, deal with it.

I'm not referring to the bittersweet part, but the person the boy ends up with. Notice how he always go for the one the audience likes most. I liked Mao very much, as she was a character that could grow, but he picked Sara, even though she didn't spend quite as much time with him. It's Kawamori's way of making money. I'm a writer, I would know.

Well, I'm not exactly like OD. I'm part of his friends but I'm also a fan of May'n's music and I personally like Sheryl as a character. Not with Alto, but as a character.

This time, Kawamori said "it HAD to have an ending" to Nakamura, who asked why they had to choose THIS ending. Hence, he felt forced to end it prematurely. He probably wanted to do more or something. You know him, he's always saying he doesn't want to do sequels, then you see another Macross series.

Minmay was an icon in Japan and by far the most popular character from the show (I know Misa won a Gran Prix for Animage, but Minmay is iconic) and she lost not just in the tv show but in the (at the time) alternate universe movie.
