Anyway, I would strongly recommend Ergo Proxy if you want something that's really mind provoking (anime-kraze has got the whole series on ddl).
It's truly post-apocalyptic, it depicts humans, who are unable to procreate, who worship an imperfect god who seems to have lost his memories. Etc, much more. Key ideas in this anime:
Cogito ergo sum, raison d'etre
