I guess they meant that part to be covered in promo text.

Emperor isn't made in Roman style though. Have they decided to go with LN style? I hope not.

Seems so, Princess Piņa resembles her LN design.

Why they should use style from another adaptation (manga)? They're adapting LN, so they use LN designs.

I was thinking about style from first novel edition, which, as far as I know, (may be wrong, is similar to that one in manga) is in Roman style, not from LN edition, where it looks like typical late medieval Europe settings, and it's not that's appealing.

Anyway, there were two editions. I can't confirm first was just novel, or light novel, second was for sure light novel. First was illustrated by Daisuke Izuka, second by Kuroshishi, and it looks like their styles were different.

The Empire:

The aptly-named Empire that tried to invade Japan. Think Rome, except with uneven technological levels, with some parts of the empire having access to late Middle-ages tech (plate mail for example is very much in evidence).
The art of the Light Novel rewrites turn the empire instead into the Holy Roman Empire, complete with period wear◊.

And that's make me sad. Romans are cool.

Maybe that is an example of the dress of the Royal Court.

The Soldiers of the Empire may have a more Roman look.

However, Pina and her squadron wear plate armor, IIRC

Technically the LN is another adaptation, since the original source is a novel which was edited from a webnovel.

Actually, I'll be just happy if they choose Renaissance Holy Roman Empire, instead of the boring old and tired High Medieval look...

I mean, ITS FABOULOUS. Imagine, the Imperial Diet where Prince-Electors, Margraves, and Dukes wearing dem colorful puffy shirts, puffy hats with feathers, skin tight breeches with prominent codpiece. In battle, Gothic Knights with in elaborate plate Sallets and Burgonets, with Landknechts in gaudy colors with their Zweihanders

I'm really interested in the (probable) polemics that anime should cause, I mean, military issues are sensitive issues there 60 years in Japan, and a little less than three years the government has taken a strong military initiative (activating rearmament programs, canceling the ban on guns exports, making an interpretation of Article 9 that creates conditions for Japan to participate in armed conflicts abroad), but there are still many political and strong opposition of the population against it (even there politicians who consider the JSDF illegal). and an anime about the JSDF in the current age......................................... .............................

ps: is there any other anime with strong participation of the JSDF?

Anime just with JSDF is one things, but for example Raid of Valkyries scene... would be meaningless in other countries, here it be interesting.

About other anime, you should check Zipang.

Shirow Masamune once pointed out that it is pointless trying to draw authentic camouflage clothing, as you end up making the characters difficult to see. And going too far makes a group of soldiers look like scenery.

I'm more interested if the anime will keep violent scenes from the novel/manga.

I think this will depend more on the channel where the anime will pass than the studio.

...Shredded into little COLORFUL bits...just like what they wore...

That, or more Imperial Roman is much, much better than this..."Medieval" Tunics. Seriously, who started pairing Medieval Era with 19th Century Military Uniforms?

And what do we have here...

...Open Bellied Tunics?
