24 ep? WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
1. Season 1 of the novel is long over with, and they just finished the Gaiden. Season 2 of the novels is planned to start soon(tm)

2. The original novels are released in a thick, large, regular novel format. The light-novel editions with redesigned animesque design splits each book into two smaller books, and is currently being published concurrently. They finished the LN version for Season 1, and currently half-way through the gaiden.

Yeah, but I think it'd be draggy if they used 24 episodes to just do two books.
I'm thinking they may condense material to cover entire season 1 with... season 1.

Episode 1:

The OP theme song imo works well and is catchy.

It has a solid mixture of real life and modern fantasy themes in it. Really loved the way the fantasy parts are adapted though. Very thrilling when you see them come in from almost nowhere and people running for their lives.

I think the series is going to tone down a bit on the violence although still captured the thrill of it in this episode. The ED theme song imo is catchy. It gives off a dancing-like vibe to the show.

There was some violence, but any scene that could be cut was cut.
(for example, Itami stabbing a soldier would be off-screen and you just see the blood)

They added a lot of extra scenes to kinda drill home the concept, a bit of dumbing down for the audience. Also, I noticed a lot of political dialog were cut, removing room for unnecessary criticisms.

Episode 1 kinda focused a lot more on Itami's otakuness, though they do properly cover the Ginza invasion at least.

The vision scene was necessary, it is used in stories where the prologue took an entire episode/chapter and they need to make sure people don't get bored.

The gore being toned down is unfortunate but expected.

Yes, it is a little slow, but okay because we know this is 2 cour.

And in the end, it makes sense it took 3 months story time and an entire episode to JUSTIFY the position of the JSDF. That is really what it is; showing that the counterattack was thought out and considered, not something done in the heat of the moment. Crossed the Ts and dotted the Is, everyone know why they do this and why it is that the population allowed something they once said they they wouldn't do, the "Right to Self Defence". It isn't easy to justify it, they are not Americans. I love how men in hard hats directed the Tanks through the Gate, it is just so Japanese. Safety first.

WOW. I wasn't really that big a fan of this. Mostly because I couldn't really understand where it was leading, but with this I'm definitely gonna need an extra eye.

I look forward to seeing the episode, mainly to see if the weapons used will be those that are for the exclusive use of JSDF (like Assault Rifle Howa Type 89) or whether producers have set up tanks and generic weapons.

The JSDF is in the credits as advisers. But in-story they don't use the latest equipment, mostly because the story was set and written during Bush Junior's time and as such won't have all the latest gear. And anyway they even mention in-story that they have budget restrictions.

Excellent beginning.

I don't mind the gore being off-screen as they way they do it leaves no doubt what just happened. If this broadens the audience then I'm all for it, as that will increase its popularity, sales, etc etc without really detracting from the story.

Makes sense that they are equipping the expeditionary force with older model equipment. Notice that in the opening battle scene the JGSDF troops were using flares instead of night vision?

I wondered a moment at the three month span between the Ginza incident and the departure of the Expeditionary Force, but then I realized that does make sense. No one in the current military has ever organized a major ground offensive before, and they would want to make sure they got it right, as well as retrieve and re-issue the older equipment.

REALLY looking forward to next week! Keep up the good work A1 !

After a rushed series like Danmachi, it feels strange to watch a series that reaaaally took its time with the first episode. It actually felt too slow for me.

But it's still pretty good and I'm looking forward to the next following eps where the exposition will end and the actual meat of the story starts.

I think this delay is more to get the approval of the population, when Japan sent troops to Iraq and the latest reinterpretation of Article 9 that allows the sending of troops to other countries under the pretext of "collective self-defense ". all these activities had almost 80% of reproach and politicians behind it had problems, we have to remember that although Japan does not officially participate in wars, they are one of the best-trained military groups in the world, participating in regular military exercise with Americans, British, Australians, and because the tensions in Asia it all became more intense and they also have some experience with terrorism.
