Personality

When it comes to strangers, Roland comes as a discreet and laid back individual. He doesn't want to draw attention to him, hence he have gone for the intelligence department when he joined the TSAB.

But once he got in, he worked just enough to get to the ranks allowing him to carry his device but was severely underperforming when it comes to climb the higher ladder of the intelligence. department.

His superiors has tagged him with a slacker or "good potential but too much 'laissez aller' for any progress to ranks with a lot of responsibility" kind of label, excepted when it comes to the study of ancient relics or lost logia.

One thing was sure about him, he is a materialist, he doesn't believe much in the ideals that brought the TSAB in existence. Therefore, he was deeply involved in what seems to be harmless deals to got a little more than his usual income.

However, he is fiercely loyal to his comrades and will go to any lenght to help them.

Personal History

Roland's grandfather was a famous TSAB enforcer. His dedication to justice and great sense of honor earned the "Lion of the TSAB" nickname. Unfortunately, he fell from grace when one of his many enemies set a conspiracy in motion, leading Roland's grandfather to be framed then stripped of his enforcer rank. The grandfather was then forced to retire.

While the young Roland was an ambitious person at heart, the dishonor of his grandfather have drawn him to the conclusion that the secret of happiness is to not draw unwanted attention. Hence he never fought back when he was bullied at school. Instead, he worked harder as an apprentice mage under the relunctant teaching of his grandfather, but also as a fighter.

In school, he always ranked in fourth or fifth place, teachers has then noted about him that he was performing way under his true abilities.

The fact that he joined TSAB, in despite of the infamy left on his name, was a weird combination of luck, work and "behind the curtains" influence from the few people who believed that his grandfather could have been framed.

Upon joining the TSAB, he proved he could be a valuable trump thanks to his magic based on the manipulation of shadows as a mean to spy on people, conceal things or plain annoyance.

As for the period between before and after StrikerS:

Roland has been deeply involved in the illegal trafic of relics, using his own shadow as a pocket dimension to conceal what he wanted to smuggle. He is not at the head of this shady business, being not enough intelligent for that, and have done the best he could to not get caught. As a consequence, he tries to avoid the likes of Acous but it is a matter of time before people start to talk. Because of his general behavior, suspicions over him has been on the low side of the spectrum.
He doesn't have ill intentions, his motives are purely based on money. He looks at the ideals animating the Aces with an amused look, even tho deep inside him, he envy them.
A passionate speech from any of the Ace or Strikers may be needed to bring him back to the right way.

Roland's general fighting and magic style

Roland tries to avoid direct confrontations as much as possible. In close quarter combat, he uses his fencing and savate training to avoid getting hit, occasionally using his shadow magic to pull him out of troubles called Starlight Breaker. His shadow magic was also used to paralyze opponents in the same fashion as binding spells.
Roland's shadow magic is pretty weak when used in daylight, but strong when it is nighttime or when Roland is in a very dark place.
Roland never developed a bombardement-type spell.

Roland's Armed Device

Roland's weapon with a customized Armed Device that speak French instead of German. Outisde of that, there are not any notable features about it. And that's what Roland wished.

Roland's Barrier Jacket

He never considered to design one.

Roland's view on canon characters

Nanoha A truly terrifying character. I am glad I am not under her command.

Fate I think she is too sweet for her current assignation.

Hayate Her weird antics kinda scares me.

Chrono He is okay I guess.

Yuuno A helpful lad. That's what I got from the times I met him in the Library when I needed some informations.

Lindy I admit it, age-defying mothers turns me on.

Design notes and inspiration

My first try at an OC in nanohaverse or any animeverse ever. I could have gone for the fierce hired killer found in many spy movie but I did not. He is loosely based on the slacker template with a "Dont want to draw unwanted attention" twist a la Kira Yoshikage from JoJo Part 4.
The pic is shamelessly ripped from a pic from Ragnarok Online.
The shadow idea is from Zato-1-One from Guilty Gear without the elements of abomination that made Zato the overpowered monster he has become.
Roland is a fairly common french name while Rafale is taken from the french aircraft.
Flamberge was the name of the sword of the french knight Renaud de Montauban.

A Shadow-user? Now THAT's rare, even here in OC. And it fits well with his intentionally low-profile personality Despite his low-key nature, he could be very useful in a lot of OC situations here, especially in regards to shady dealings

They occupy a single 2-story structure just outside the main TSAB Ground Forces HQ with a pair of hangers for the helicopters and a single training structure in the rear. As of their founding, the main forward forces consist of 1st LT. Shamsel Nagisa and 2nd LT. Ryotaro Nogami. Some questioned the use of an experimental system for such an organization, but they were all quickly dismissed by Lt. Gen. Gaiz saying that it was a proven system he had investigated himself and worthy of such a roll.

Despite the intentions of the division, there were several rumors questioning its founding. One sprung from the fact that, after being initially set aside by the Council as not a priority, the airport disaster occurred and practically paved the way for its rushed approval. Second was on the backer, Lt. Gen. Gaiz. Rumors already existed of his dislike for the Navy as well as of the young Hayate Yagami. Many found it odd for him to propose such a group when word spread of Hayate contemplating a similar division of her own.

In close quarter combat, he uses his fencing and savate training to avoid getting hit, occasionally using his shadow magic to pull him out of troubles called Starlight Breaker. His shadow magic was also used to paralyze opponents in the same fashion as binding spells.
Roland's shadow magic is pretty weak when used in daylight, but strong when it is nighttime or when Roland is in a very dark place.
Roland never developed a bombardement-type spell.

Design notes and inspiration

My first try at an OC in nanohaverse or any animeverse ever. I could have gone for the fierce hired killer found in many spy movie but I did not. He is loosely based on the slacker template with a "Dont want to draw unwanted attention" twist a la Kira Yoshikage from JoJo Part 4.
The pic is shamelessly ripped from a pic from Ragnarok Online.
The shadow idea is from Zato-1-One from Guilty Gear without the elements of abomination that made Zato the overpowered monster he has become.
Roland is a fairly common french name while Rafale is taken from the french aircraft.
Flamberge was the name of the sword of the french knight Renaud de Montauban.

Not bad.
The concept is solid. There aren't really anything that would warrant scepticsm. Though I'm most curious about your system using shadows.

Actually, the "Amen" part came from Judaism instead of Christianity. My take on the Belkan belief system (which may or may not be related to its magical system, but will definitely have an impact) is based on Judaism (every branch of it, including Humanistic). IIRC the Jews have been using "Amen" long before the Christians do (though it's the congregation that says "amen" as a way of affirming the person leading the prayer, like maybe Aaron saying "May Hayate be unshafted in the next Nanoha installment, if any", and the rest of us go "Amen").

But still.. The theme's Norse...

Err, nonethless it's true that all this doesn't fits in the Norse theme, but unfortunately it was the best I could come up with for a trigger that has a "climatic" feel to it .

There might be some Norse terms that might work. I'll see if I can help later.

The Timebomb should be available, but not to Hayate. The Black Hole maybe, since it seems to fit the Queen of the Night Sky theme. Maybe something similar to Kakashi's Mangekyou Sharigan (though that itself is pretty haxxed too imho, despite the side effects).

It's mostly used as a large bomb

Solid, it is indeed. Also, as it is an exact copy of Hayate, its abilities and specialties will be thus be similar. So don't expect it to be good in melee like the Knights.

The Doppelganger will have a timer that is influenced by the temporary Linker Core that fuels its existence (well, think it as a battery, Duracell or Energizer perhaps). Once the battery life is out, the Doppelganger goes poof. Also, there's an cooldown timer that prevent Hayate from spamming Doppelgangers on and on.

Come to think of it, this thus bring forth the question whether the timer will also be influenced by how much power the Doppelganger is exerting in battle. Hmm, this could be very important.

How about giving the Doppelganger the ability to go your proposed "
Valkyrie-mode" to make up for the lack of melee capability?

Also I don't like the idea of a one-woman world destroyer. No doubt I have mulled over characters that can destroy cities with a wave of their hands, but I insist, amongst other conditions, only if they are not, or no longer are, humans. Hayate, for all the haxx I (and the rest of us) come up with, is still human and I fully intend to keep her within human limitations. Even Superman has his limits, and Hayate is clearly not Superman.

Hmm, I agree. In any case, Planet Cracker (if it somehow makes its way into plot proper) will be something similar to what Kuzu-ryusen is in Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu, a byproduct that leads to her ultimate spell. Whatever that may be.

Though that might call for a vast difference in her ultimate and Planet Cracker since the way Amakekiru Ryu no Hirameki and Kusuryusen are very different in execution.

Some questioned the use of an experimental system for such an organization, but they were all quickly dismissed by Lt. Gen. Gaiz saying that it was a proven system he had investigated himself and worthy of such a roll.

Despite the intentions of the division, there were several rumors questioning its founding. One sprung from the fact that, after being initially set aside by the Council as not a priority, the airport disaster occurred and practically paved the way for its rushed approval. Second was on the backer, Lt. Gen. Gaiz. Rumors already existed of his dislike for the Navy as well as of the young Hayate Yagami. Many found it odd for him to propose such a group when word spread of Hayate contemplating a similar division of her own.

Kittan Impact Stake activated and pierced through the armour twelve times in quick succession. Later, after the thugs were handed over to the sherrif, the Heavenly Red Brigade were preparing to leave the village. Yuuko and Simone were helped by the Slug Siblings as they put their luggages onboard the carriage. Hannibal and Kagami were absent, being standing on a nearby cliff and looking down at the small village.

"Hey, Kagami," Hannibal said as he turned to the setting sun.

Kagami did the same. "What is it, Hannibal?"

"Remember old man Sanshiro?"

Kagami smacked a fist onto his palm. "Of course! How can I ever forget the legendary undefeated of the east?" he said.

"I got a letter from him yesterday," Hannibal told him. "He's sending his student here. He wants us to look after her until she graduates from the dojo."

I have three forms in mind. First being the sniper rifle form, which is a definite now, second something suited for engagements in close range or enclosed areas, so something like a light machine gun I guess.

Last form is clearly whack and for coolness-factor. Big cannon ala Dieci's Enormous Cannon or buster rifles styled after Vayaete or Wing 0. Well nothing in power like their originals of course. Biggest shot from that probably measures up to loli Nanoha's Divine Buster

Sniping weapons have high accuraccy, but that's about the only thing that sniping weapons have in common. Military sniper rifles need to be light and rugged, since military snipers will be on foot, travelling all over the place. Police sniper rifles can be heavier and less rugged, more sensitve, since they'll be kept in cases most of the time.

Sniper rifles have high accuraccy and range. On the other hand, they tend to have drawbacks; rate of fire isn't that good, you can't exactly shoot on the move, and it's quite possible that if you only know how to shoot and not how to snipe, you'll be doing a No-no like Deici: standing to fire her cannon. Snipers will crouch or go prone when shooting (unless the wall they're using for cover is so high they HAVE to stand).

Heavy Machineguns have good firepower and fearsome rate of fire. They also have a lots of recoil, and it's generally inadvisable to go full auto on them, as you will not hit anything (reccommended ROF is 60 rounds per minute on the M2 .50cal or short burst). They tend to be a bitch to carry and move with, and are used as vehicle or stationary weapons.

Submachineguns are automatic weapons like the MAC-10, Uzi or the MP5; they fire pistol rounds at high rate of fire, and are smaller and much, much lighter than rifles or carbines (which explains why SEALs tasked with maritime takedown missions use MP5s). Advantages are light weight and easy controllability; disadvantages include lower stopping power and range.

A machine pistol is basically a pistol that as a full auto mode, like the Czech Skorpion. Generally, machine pistols are crap; the only machine pistol you shoud go for is the Maschinenpistolen Funf, aka MP5, made by Heckler & Kock. (Which is more properly classed as an SMG. The Germans use machine pistol to refer to any SMG; Machine pistol is commonly understood to be a pistol pretending to be an SMG.)

Hybrid weapons: M16A4/M203 grenade launcher combo, M4A1/M203 combo, etc etc. Shoulder weapon, typically a rifle or a carbine, with an underbarrel grenade launcher - although Delta operator SFC Paul Howe used a shotgun with his M4A1. You have both a rifle and a GL; disadvantage is that it's heavier and you're carrying more crap.

Very enlightening, especially on the sniper parts.

Well, from 6 to 10, Nanoha was still at home and things were only slowly falling apart (which I'll explain why), and from 11 to 14, the TSAB had decided that no, they weren't going to stick with their original promise and sent Nanoha off-world for a term, meaning Vivio got to spend four years living with whoever was on-world at the time (among which would be Fate, Hayate/Wolkenritter, Chrono, Yuuno, Keroko, and so on).

There will be no questions, only answers *sagely nod* *shot*.
I'm trying to recall some things from mine and my friends' eighth grade lives, infusing a healthy grade of Eva-style feelings of neglect, and at the same time showing Vivio that people do care about her. Syn is helping a lot in that respect, as so far she's been the only constant in Vivio's life. Fate and the other adults are constantly being sent off to do other things.

Vivio has changed over the years. What was once a bright-eyed girl looking forward to the future is now held back by her own self-doubt and worry. She can be stubborn at times, but has a tendancy to cave in. Years of moving around from place to place have left her feeling mistrustful of others, especially the closer they get to her; the sole exception to this rule is Syn, and the two share a strong bond. Much like her mother Fate, she can be loving and kind, but because of how the past eight years of her life have been thanks to her mother Nanoha, she's not quite as stable as she used to be.

Device: Sacred Dream is a Device created by Aurion Dauer, specifically as a gift to Vivio for her 12th birthday. It's storage form is a red sphere gem with yellow "flames" in it, thus resembling a mix of Bardiche and Raising Heart. When active, the Device becomes a Bo Staff, allowing Vivio to fight in melee. Her own special brand of fighting is directly tuned to the ID, and thanks to the Device's personality, the two get along well. Vivio calls Sacred Dream "Yume", and the Device itself randomly gives Vivio some form of honorific. ("Ma'am, master, mistress, etc.")

Silver Fang: Standard melee spell for Vivio. Two silver "fangs" of light emit out of stand, both of them on the same side and general location. Converts the Staff into a Slashing Weapon.

Silver Spear: As above, but modifies the staff into a Piercing Weapon.
Silver Strike: By charging the staff with magical energy, Vivio unleashes a powerful attack against her opponent.

Sunwell Shot: As Nanoha's Divine Shooter, but at point-blank range (up to 2m), and only one shot per cast.
Moonwell Smasher: Same as Nanoha's Divine Buster, but instead requires significantly more charge time.

Ashbringer: Similar to Fate's Zamber Form; Vivio summons a gigantic blade of energy to attack her opponents with.
Stormstrike: The Staff becomes charged with lightning, and a spear-tip forms again. Vivio can hurl the spear great distances (100m is her record; this is a magically-enhanced throw, mind you).

Medivh: Vivio channels more energy into her staff and swings it in an arc, emitting a powerful burst of energy that causes massive damage (for her rank).

Starlight Sunder: Collection-type energy blast spell. Vivio channels energy into her hands then cuts loose with a torrent of energy.

Oops, forgot defensive spells.

Nice take on future Vivio. Character-wise seems pretty-inline with events and influences so that's another plus point.

Vita Yagami looked at the old man who had just scolded her, a glare on her face. "Since when do you care whether or not I curse?"

"Well, I can't let kids I know just fire off remarks like that," Aurion Dauer said, smirking.
"You know I'm older than that!" Vita fired back. Aurion simply laughed and patted her on the head, causing her to flush. "S-stop that, I'm not a kid!"

"No, but you certainly act like one," he asid. "Hmm... it appears that Hayate and the others are late. I thought Tesla was supposed to keep them on time for these kinds of things."

The two were stranded; well, stranded was too strong of a word, as a TSAB assault cruiser was parked in orbit around the moon. Aurion and Vita, were however, alone on the barren moon, which barely had enough oxygen to support the need for it and an atmosphere just thick enough to prevent the oxygen from escaping. Nonetheless, Aurion had an oxygen tank strapped to his back for an emergency, and he was already beginning to feel light-headed. Vita likewise had the same equipment.

Underneath their uniforms, the two wore skintight body suits, which was supposed to help them acclimate to the cold weather. It helped somewhat, but Vita was still shivering as she stared up at the ship just outside of the atmosphere. Aurion seemed unfazed as he tossed a cell-phone shaped Device up and down, watching as it seemed to suspend higher and longer in the air due to the lessened gravity.

"You could stop that at any time, Aurion-san," the Device said.
"I will when Hayate gets here, Almaria," he promised, though from the look on his face he showed no signs of actually stopping.

"Sure you will," Vita muttered, still staring. "Well, here they come. It's about time, I wanna go back home already."

A blink of light emitted from the assault cruiser and approached the moon, slowly growing bigger and dimmer; a result of starlight reflecting less off of it. Aurion narrowed his eyes at the ship, catching Almaria without looking. The ship nosed upward as it approached, deploying landing gear and slowing its descent until it touched down some fifty meters away, kicking up dust and forcing the two already on the ground to cover their eyes. As the ship's engines spooled down, the airlock opened and deployed a ramp downward. Five figures exited the ship and made their way down the ramp, toward the two of them. As they neared, Aurion gave a salute.

"Rear Admiral Tesla Yagami and Brigadier General Hayate Yagami, it's a pleasure," he said firmly.
"At ease, Oji-chan," Hayate laughed, causing both Tesla and the rest of the Wolkenritter to relax by reflex. "How long has it been?"

"Too long," Aurion answered, smiling. "As always, it's nice to see you all."
"It would be nice if you could all show up on time," Almaria chirped.
"...that, too."

"Originally, we were going to teleport," Signum said from behind and to the left of Hayate. "However, in case something goes wrong and they cannot achieve a lock on our signal to get us out, it would be easier to run for the Normandy," She gestured toward the ship behind her. "The crew is on standby, in case we come running out."

"Hmm, good idea," Aurion admitted. "We are dealing with technology that's possibly derived from Al-Hazared itself. True Lost Logia..."

"So that's what this mission is about?" Tesla asked as she and the other Wolkenritter surrounded Aurion as he turned around, making his way to a cave that he and Vita were standing in front of. "More Lost Logia?"

"I was under the impression that Al-Hazared was... somewhere else," Zafira said as the group moved into a single file line with Aurion at the lead and himself at the back. There was a simultaneous activation of flashlights. "At least, that's one of the theories,"

"That's true," Aurion said. "It is one of the theories. However, recent evidence, such as the encrypted signals coming from this moon, suggest that Al-Hazared was a civilization that spanned the galaxy. They probably had such advanced Dimension Warping capabilities that it was as if they were all concentrated in one star system or one world."

"Wouldn't that contradict other evidence?" Hayate asked. "Many of the Relic Lost Logia from the JS Incident was believed to be found on Midchilda, if I recall."

"Yes, but remember the two incidents that took place on your own homeworld of Terra," Aurion said. "Lost Logia are everywhere, Hayate. And haven't you ever wondered why there are so many humans that, genetically, only vary by the percent chance of developing Linker Cores? Why are there humans in Midchilda, Terra, and the other hundreds of administered worlds? Remember, The TSAB has many member worlds that already had humans on them prior to First Contact."

"This is going outside the realm of Lost Logia and into the realm of Scifi," Tesla said, feeling slightly uncomfortable all of a sudden. "Humans on other worlds and Lost Logia spanning the galaxy? So are you saying that Al-Hazaredean humans spanned the galaxy as a sort of Precursor or Forerunner race?"

"That's exactly what I'm saying." Aurion stated.
"He may be right," Rein suddenly piped up from behind Zafira (how long had she been there?). "My kind were far more common back in those days, and there are some Unison Devices that are even older. Really, Agito-san is about nine th-"

"Shut up!" Agito shouted from Signum's shoulder, huffing and crossing her arms. "Anyway, Aurion-san."
"...right..." Aurion resisted the urge to facepalm. "Many Devices from those days seem to speak our languages quite well, don't you think? And don't you think it's odd that Terra is such a huge mash of seem like disparate cultures when most planets by now have a single, unifying one?"

"We don't know," Signum said levelly. "Al-Hazared is one of the larger mysteries of the universe."
"I'm beginning to think that might not be true, Signum," Aurion replied as he slowed down. "For you see, I think we're about to solve one of the galaxy's mysteries. The key, is right behind me."

"What do you mean?" Hayate asked. "You mean, myself? What kind of key?" Aurion didn't answer as he took several steps forward, then turned right, pointing his flashlight down the cavern. He motioned for the rest of the party to approach him, speaking as walked up.

"The galaxy is full of mysteries," he told them. "We are always trying to get the answers to those mysteries. When I was approached by the R&D Division for this Lost Logia case, I was confused. But now, I think I understand. Observe!" He turned sideways and pointed down the cavern. "This cavern is really a long gate, to this!"

Hayate rounded the corner, took one look, and gasped.

Before her was a large, metallic object, roughly two and a half meters tall and thrice that wide at its widest point. The overlapping plates that composed the object seemed to shine in a purple-blue light, seemingly unconnected and yet solid in its design. It was truly a door meant to protect something. And Hayate had the key.

In one of the door's plates, an image was engraved; that of a long staff that opened up at the end in a cross-like shape. As Hayate touched the symbol/etching, it glowed a soft white. "This image..." she whispered. "It's unmistakable..." fingers tightened around the object hanging off of her neck.

The symbol on the door, was an unmistakable match for Schwertkreuz.

The story thickens considerably with each chapter. Great work in short.

History: Division 66 was founded in May MC 071 shortly after the airport disaster. Although it had been proposed just a month prior, the proximity and scale of the Lost Logia/Relic airport incident made it clear to the TSAB council that an organization would be necessary to police local threats to avoid another disaster. The original proposal was drafted and backed by Lt. General Regius Gaiz and as such is under the direct control of the TSAB Ground Forces. This also limited the range of movement of the organization to Mid-Childa, although a clause was later added to allow their jurisdiction to reach to other worlds should there be a potential high-level threat.

The overall division is quite small due to its specialized objectives. They occupy a single 2-story structure just outside the main TSAB Ground Forces HQ with a pair of hangers for the helicopters and a single training structure in the rear. As of their founding, the main forward forces consist of 1st LT. Shamsel Nagisa and 2nd LT. Ryotaro Nogami. Some questioned the use of an experimental system for such an organization, but they were all quickly dismissed by Lt. Gen. Gaiz saying that it was a proven system he had investigated himself and worthy of such a roll.

Despite the intentions of the division, there were several rumors questioning its founding. One sprung from the fact that, after being initially set aside by the Council as not a priority, the airport disaster occurred and practically paved the way for its rushed approval. Second was on the backer, Lt. Gen. Gaiz. Rumors already existed of his dislike for the Navy as well as of the young Hayate Yagami. Many found it odd for him to propose such a group when word spread of Hayate contemplating a similar division of her own.

HISTORY:

Abenobashi AFB was founded some time before the war that nearly ripped the planet apart. Its remote location and lack of strategic importance due to small size spared it many of the ravages that the rest of the world had seen in those times.

Shortly after the end of the war, it was converted into a remote dumping ground for the discarded mass weapons and weapons of mass destruction.
A few decades later, the base was reactivated and a new disposal facility constructed on the fourth island (complex D). Various hazzardous waste materials (Mostly Radiological in nature) were removed to be shipped offworld and the dump site magically scrubbed. Three heavily reinforced storage bunkers were constructed for safe keeping of all... less-hazzardous weapons material that had yet to be disposed of. The Seimei dispisal facility was then activated and run from the nearly abandoned Air Force Base.

After the formation of the TSAB, the disposal site remained in operation, being more economical than offworld shipping and disposal via the rather busy Interdimensional Navy. It's remote location in the ocean ensured minimal exposure to the paranoid masses.

On October Tenth, MC 02, the rapidly growing need for some kind of centralized test facility for the advancement of magical systems was realized by the budding TSAB.
After considerable debate. It was decided the new test facility was too much a NIMBY (Not in my back yard) for the mainland, but also far too sensitive and expensive to maintain as an offworld location.
Abenobashi AFB fit the bill for a location that was remote enough to be ignored, and economical to maintain. It also had the required on-site infrastructure already in place for high security measures.

The formation of the BEST Force proved a revitalization factor for the Archipelligo. Within three years of activation, the base became home to the 67th Air/Sea search and rescue unit, and five years later, home to the Abeno Angels Non-mage air vehicle training wing.

The Facility went sharply downhill after it was handed over to its second base commander (Name striken from the record) in the spring of MC 35. Improper handling of the facility's joint projects and lax dissapline of the air wings in close proximity to the sensitive disposal facility had resulted in a number of harsh reactions from the TSAB that nearly had the facility shut down, save for the insistance by the budget handlers that it was the only well maintained, and economical facility of the time. However, the damage to the facility's reputation had earned it the nickname of the TSTB. The Time Space Trash Bin.

In late MC 40, a third base commander, Brig. General D. Schneider, had been sent to replace the incompetent commander after a debacle of accidents that killed several hundred people. The new commander managed to maintain an unsteady status quo from roughly MC 40, to MC 63.

The problems with the Facility, as seen by the TSAB, were the lack of tried and true methods for dealing with an inherently unstable situation that was balanced between the Air Base, the Disposal Site, and the Test Facility. Safety and Security were issues that were under serious threat of total collapse by MC 63, when the third base commander retired.

A new method was to be approached. The TSAB decided to appoint then Col. William Roland as the base commander for the facility, tasked with the arduous job of cleaning up the site's performance. Roland was chosen for his background. An individual from Non-Administrated world 79, with experience in an actual military force... Something midchilda had grown critically short of in the 150 or so years since the war that nearly destroyed the world.
He attacked the task head on, and in three years, turned the Trash Bin of the TSA, into the functional Military Facility needed to maintain the balance. Staff Turnovers in the first three years threatened to shut the facility down several times.

Modern Abenobashi AFB security is some of the tightest in the TSAB. All air traffic is monitored from four-hundred nautical miles away, and a strict exclusion zone is enforced at fifty nautical miles. Projects of the Test Facility are Supervised directly by the base commander, and the Air Force wings in garrison are training almost daily.

Having been Promoted to the rank of Major General, Roland used his success and heavy influence to request authorization to make constructive use of the stockpiles of mass based weapons on-site by the Test Force. The request almost fell through, as much of the Administration Beaurau were deeply entrenched in their position that there was no 'constructive' use for any of the stockpiled weapons scheduled for destruction. However, two years of careful political kneejerking and solidly prepared facts and arguments managed to grant Roland a limited authorization under rather strict conditions.

The first clause cited that all mass weapons redirected to test facility use were to be catalogued, and seccured in a manner that bordered on Hazzardous materials handling procedures. The second clause was that only TSAB Officers could be allowed into the Storage bunkers, and only if the base commander cleared the authorization himself every time, due to his experience with such things, as well as his direct responsibility.
The final clause stated that none of the weapons material was to leave the Base Exclusion Zone in any state other than destroyed, and that Gen. Roland would be heald personally accountable for each and every violation, should they occure.

After that, the TSAB pretty much left it up to Roland to adequetly ensure site security, but sent inspectors at least once a month to ensure these strict procedures were being followed.
As far as these thorough inspections go, the facility has had only one cataloging violation, a miss-numbered fifty calibur anti-material sniper rifle round that had rolled under a desk.

If that's not enough Red Tape to deal with, throw more ideas at me. If I have to depict mass weapons as banned items, I'll throw as much Red Tape at the problem as needed for a bunch of overly paranoid Mid-child(ren)

I really should go back to the character bio for Halley Rainier and edit out her Jammer Cannon. For those who have no idea what I'm talking about, it's basically a projectile launcher which launches non-lethal rounds, like glue or netting.

However, since she only had it so she could tag along on adventures despite having almost no magical ability to speak of (rank E-, just enough for mage telepathy), it's not worth trying to argue for her case. I just replaced her role in that Cannon-required scene with Reiz; makes for a bit of a plot hole in that Halley now doesn't actually do anything significant and yet shows up anyway, and the scene is significantly weaker, but at least now it's canonical.

In my defense, I came up with it before episode 14 was released, and after I learned about it, I started working through my notes to edit that out. See, I'm very reasonable when I am told about canon contradictions before I write the damn story.

Referring to Episode 2, the firefighters use "guns" that fire wads of flame redardant foam instead of bringing in hoses. This Jammer Launcher appears to be similar in principle, so it should be alright.

On the other hand, the firefighters were firing foam rounds. Not glue...

Personality

When it comes to strangers, Roland comes as a discreet and laid back individual. He doesn't want to draw attention to him, hence he have gone for the intelligence department when he joined the TSAB.

But once he got in, he worked just enough to get to the ranks allowing him to carry his device but was severely underperforming when it comes to climb the higher ladder of the intelligence. department.

His superiors has tagged him with a slacker or "good potential but too much 'laissez aller' for any progress to ranks with a lot of responsibility" kind of label, excepted when it comes to the study of ancient relics or lost logia.

One thing was sure about him, he is a materialist, he doesn't believe much in the ideals that brought the TSAB in existence. Therefore, he was deeply involved in what seems to be harmless deals to got a little more than his usual income.

However, he is fiercely loyal to his comrades and will go to any lenght to help them.

Personal History

Roland's grandfather was a famous TSAB enforcer. His dedication to justice and great sense of honor earned the "Lion of the TSAB" nickname. Unfortunately, he fell from grace when one of his many enemies set a conspiracy in motion, leading Roland's grandfather to be framed then stripped of his enforcer rank. The grandfather was then forced to retire.

While the young Roland was an ambitious person at heart, the dishonor of his grandfather have drawn him to the conclusion that the secret of happiness is to not draw unwanted attention. Hence he never fought back when he was bullied at school. Instead, he worked harder as an apprentice mage under the relunctant teaching of his grandfather, but also as a fighter.

In school, he always ranked in fourth or fifth place, teachers has then noted about him that he was performing way under his true abilities.

The fact that he joined TSAB, in despite of the infamy left on his name, was a weird combination of luck, work and "behind the curtains" influence from the few people who believed that his grandfather could have been framed.

Upon joining the TSAB, he proved he could be a valuable trump thanks to his magic based on the manipulation of shadows as a mean to spy on people, conceal things or plain annoyance.

As for the period between before and after StrikerS:

Roland has been deeply involved in the illegal trafic of relics, using his own shadow as a pocket dimension to conceal what he wanted to smuggle. He is not at the head of this shady business, being not enough intelligent for that, and have done the best he could to not get caught. As a consequence, he tries to avoid the likes of Acous but it is a matter of time before people start to talk. Because of his general behavior, suspicions over him has been on the low side of the spectrum.
He doesn't have ill intentions, his motives are purely based on money. He looks at the ideals animating the Aces with an amused look, even tho deep inside him, he envy them.
A passionate speech from any of the Ace or Strikers may be needed to bring him back to the right way.

Roland's general fighting and magic style

Roland tries to avoid direct confrontations as much as possible. In close quarter combat, he uses his fencing and savate training to avoid getting hit, occasionally using his shadow magic to pull him out of troubles called Starlight Breaker. His shadow magic was also used to paralyze opponents in the same fashion as binding spells.
Roland's shadow magic is pretty weak when used in daylight, but strong when it is nighttime or when Roland is in a very dark place.
Roland never developed a bombardement-type spell.

Roland's Armed Device

Roland's weapon with a customized Armed Device that speak French instead of German. Outisde of that, there are not any notable features about it. And that's what Roland wished.

Roland's Barrier Jacket

He never considered to design one.

Roland's view on canon characters

Nanoha A truly terrifying character. I am glad I am not under her command.

Fate I think she is too sweet for her current assignation.

Hayate Her weird antics kinda scares me.

Chrono He is okay I guess.

Yuuno A helpful lad. That's what I got from the times I met him in the Library when I needed some informations.

Design notes and inspiration

My first try at an OC in nanohaverse or any animeverse ever. I could have gone for the fierce hired killer found in many spy movie but I did not. He is loosely based on the slacker template with a "Dont want to draw unwanted attention" twist a la Kira Yoshikage from JoJo Part 4.
The pic is shamelessly ripped from a pic from Ragnarok Online.
The shadow idea is from Zato-1-One from Guilty Gear without the elements of abomination that made Zato the overpowered monster he has become.
Roland is a fairly common french name while Rafale is taken from the french aircraft.
Flamberge was the name of the sword of the french knight Renaud de Montauban.

A very nicely done OC, just needs some tightening here and there, and the skills will take a while to iron flat to thread correctness, but after reading, crack ignites...

So far it's the Braummuhls have been buying wholesale from several Terran companies to ship off-planet for incredibly high profit, and among the unwitting parties is the Arisa's and Suzuka's family businesses. This would be how Braummuhl gets his goods to sell, and for many people on Earth to get insanely rich.

As for the clearances, I've taken your ideas into account, and placed Arisa and Suzuka on special visas through the MIB. While having Nanoha and Fate as high-ranking sponsors, the Braummuhls paved the rest of the way with gold for the passes.

Just FYI, the visas had to look reasonably valid, and so on the passes you'll find intriguing details, off the top of my head including things like Burning Arisa and Ghostsweeper Suzuka.

As of their founding, the main forward forces consist of 1st LT. Shamsel Nagisa and 2nd LT. Ryotaro Nogami. Some questioned the use of an experimental system for such an organization, but they were all quickly dismissed by Lt. Gen. Gaiz saying that it was a proven system he had investigated himself and worthy of such a roll.

Despite the intentions of the division, there were several rumors questioning its founding. One sprung from the fact that, after being initially set aside by the Council as not a priority, the airport disaster occurred and practically paved the way for its rushed approval. Second was on the backer, Lt. Gen. Gaiz. Rumors already existed of his dislike for the Navy as well as of the young Hayate Yagami. Many found it odd for him to propose such a group when word spread of Hayate contemplating a similar division of her own.

While heavily inspired by Super Sentai, Asagi had decided that as Belkarangers they’ll try to do something original for once, and they chose their barrier jackets to do so.

Asagi’s barrier jacket resembles a modified school sailor uniform (aka serafuku) with a large white band running down the front of the blouse down to the skirt – a tribute to the Boukenger suit. Accompanying forearm length falconry gloves, and ironically named go-go boots complete the Belkaranger suits.

Unlike most Super Sentai, the Belkarangers don’t wear full helmets, instead choosing to wear wraparound black headphone visors to cover their eyes. The visors also have forehead mounted searchlights for low-light illumination.

While most mages nowadays prefer their barrier jacket transformations quick and easy, Asagi and the Belkarangers like to take their long and flashy, with Super Sentai inspired fancy poses and roll calls complete with sound effects and BGM courtesy of their devices. In Asagi’s case, her routine is taken from Boukenger’s, with the call of “Belkaranger, Start Up!” to initiate, and until the arrival of the Accelulars used ANY and ALL flip-top cellphones for props.

Whenever her whim takes her, or when lacking the appropriate prop, Asagi uses other Sentai routines, like the Dekaranger or Timeranger routine, using her wallet and her watch respectively for props (and the appropriate removal of clothes for Timeranger revealing her undersuit before transformation).

For the rest of the Belkarangers, the roll call sequence follows from the first of the trio to perform the henshin sequence. As Asagi is always the first to initiate the Boukenger sequence is the most performed, although different sequences have been performed whenever Julie or Mayura initiate.

Skills and Abilities:

Asagi Colwell is officially a AA+-rank ground combat Knight, despite her magical rank being only C+. This is due to her incredible skill with her sword fighting technique, borne out of years of constant practice under various sword arts, with her base style being the Japanese competitive style of Kendo… and various Super Sentai moves and finishers.

For most of the time, Asagi’s attacks with her sword appear to be very blunt, direct and brash, charging in recklessly at the enemy with a flurry of swipes and slashes propelled by unbridled energy and much gusto (complete with sparks, fireworks and much lovely HISSATSU for that Super Sentai effect).

Against serious and skilled opponents though, Asagi’s style and demeanor takes a drastic reversal: she becomes an unnervingly calm, silent and calculating fighter, efficient and deliberate in her attacks with precision slashes and impeccably timed feints and lunges. Her preferred tactic is to conserve her strength and magical energy and evade/defend against enemy attack, preparing her stance while controlling the fight to lead the enemy into the creation of an opening or opportunity, on which she’ll exploit by with an EXPLODING CHOU HISSATSU-

While incredibly deadly in close combat, Asagi’s lack of any decent ranged attacks asides from her Buster Shots means she has to rely on other mages, and a combination of her speed and defensive abilities to cover her approach when fighting ranged opponents.

Devices:

As a Knight relying more on her physical prowess than magic, Asagi has mastery over a lot of non-magical weapons, most often swords and staves. This non-reliance on magical devices gives her incredible versatility in her choice of armament, although for maximum effectiveness Asagi uses an array of simple non-intelligent storage and Armed devices.

Survi-Buster (Asagi) –



Asagi’s most trusted primary weapon. Created by request after her graduation by engineer Aurion Dauer, the Survi-Busters are pistol-like non-intelligent storage devices, inspired from the primary weapons of her favorite Super Sentai group, the Boukenger.

Like its inspiration in the show, the Survi-Buster is a multi-mode weapon with two primary forms: Gun Mode, which is used to cast ranged Buster shots, and the melee use Survi-Blade Mode, where its handle swings back 40 degrees and extends a long double edged blade thus forming a longsword.

Each of the three Belkarangers have their own Survi-Busters, and each is specialized for their respective use. In Asagi’s case, her Survi-Buster is the only one equipped with a cartridge system loaded from an 8-round pistol magazine on the handgrip, and her weapon is defaulted in Blade Form to better accommodate her combat style.

Bouken Bo / Bouken Javelin –



Another Boukenger-inspired device created by Aurion, the Bouken Bo is a long shaft device with pincers on its end, used to grab hard to reach objects. In combat the Bouken Bo can open its jaws and extend a double-edged blade to become the Bouken Javelin, which gives her extended reach and power in close combat. Unlike with the original weapon, Asagi can use the “Extension” spell on the Bouken Bo/Javelin, which lengthens its shaft to a maximum of 20 meters giving her unparalleled reach. Like the Survi-Busters, the Bouken Bo is a simple non-vocal non-intelligent storage device, and reduces itself to a standard device card when stored.

Amaterasu –



The only non-Boukenger inspired weapon in Asagi’s arsenal, Amaterasu is an intelligent longsword-shaped Armed-Device that was a family treasure for more than a hundred years, kept as a display piece due to the lack of active mages in the Colwell clan. As the first Colwell mage in nearly two centuries, Amaterasu was thus entrusted to Asagi’s use after her graduation from the TSAB Academy.

As an intelligent Armed Device Amaterasu can be considered Asagi’s primary magical device, as she performs many of her magical abilities through it, from her Barrier Jacket summoning to activating defensive and offensive abilities. Also, both the Survi-Buster and Bouken Bo have been integrated into Amaterasu’s storage form, allowing Asagi to carry all three weapons in a single device, and she can summon any one of her devices separately from it.

In terms of power, Amaterasu has the highest magical processing and storage capacity of Asagi’s three devices despite its lack of a cartridge system, making it the ideal choice for casting high-level magic spells and attacks reaching up to S+. However this ability comes at the cost of increased mana consumption when Amaterasu is unlocked into weapon form. As Asagi is only ranked B in magical power she rarely uses Amaterasu as a weapon, preferring to use it primarily as a mana spell conduit, unless dire circumstances force her to use its power.

On the flip side, Asagi calls the weapon the “Golden Sword” after its bright golden blade – a coincidental similarity to BoukenRed’s weapon in Boukenger. Similarly, she calls the sword’s male AI “Zubaan”.

In storage form, Amaterasu takes the form of a small coin with an ornate sun pattern engraved on its surface hung on a silver chain necklace.

Auxilliary Devices:

Accelular –



Straight out of Boukenger is the Belkarangers all-in-one multipurpose device, the Accelular. This signature cell-phone like device performs almost every function its original can in the show, including cellular phone communication, compass navigation and ultraviolet blacklight. It also has various scanners and sensors that give it incredible detection abilities, ranging from infrared detection to magic scanning.

(The only thing the Belkaranger’s Accelular can’t do is summon GouGou Vehicles…)

While similar in many respects to the original, several changes and improvements have been made to the design, like the replacement of the main LCD display with a 3-D holographic screen and projector, and tougher materials and construction, allowing it to withstand the harsh rigors of field use. Also, the Belkaranger’s intelligent device AI’s can interface with each other through the Accelular’s computer. And like in the show, the GoGo Turbine is used in the mandatory transformation posing sequences (even though their base intelligent devices perform the actual transformation).

For all its usefulness, the Accelulars are a surprisingly recent addition to the Belkaranger’s arsenal, that they only received in late MC0075. The original request for its creation was put forward by Asagi almost five years ago, when she was finally old enough to be given command of the Colwell company finances and facilities. A series of technical problems associated with the creation of such a non-magical multipurpose device delayed the production of the devices, not to mention the questions regarding the merits and benefits of expending large amounts of financial and technical resources into some saw as a mere toy. Fortunately Asagi’s persistence and logistical maneuvering paid off (by mass-marketing a stripped-down version of the Accelulars into the cellular phone market to cover the costs), and the Accelulars now see extensive use by the Belkarangers in the missions.

Offensive Spell List:

As an alumni of Class 0061-Q, Asagi’s primary spells are the so called “Impulse” spells, which are the most basic of Close Combat oriented spells taught to Neo-Belkan students. There are three spells overall, including:

Force -

In martial combat, one requires physical strength and power to deliver the energy required for impact. The most basic spell for many Neo-Belkan practitioners, and also the easiest to learn, is the “Force” spell, which is a basic spell to externally enhance the wielder’s physical strength. This is achieved using a combination of external levitation (and in some cases, Midchilda-style Barrel Rings), which provide additional aid and support on a mage’s arms or legs. This grants a mage extra physical power in lifting heavy weapons, or further enhancing the power behind a strike.

Blast –

Another basic Neo-Belkan spell, “Blast” is a “static kinetic energy” spell applied at a weapon’s impact point, which multiplies the kinetic energy behind a physical blow without the requirement of adding extra momentum or mass. In combat this significantly improves the damage potential of a normally kinetically weak blow, like a punch.

Although the advantages are considerable, the Blast spell creates significant kinetic energy backlash at the item it is used on, whether a weapon or the mage itself. For this reason, application of this spell is most ideal on sturdy, blunt and dense objects with a large surface area on the impact point, like mallets, clubs and hammers, to better absorb and dissipate the backlash. Impact dissipation spells can also be applied to further reduce the backlash’s negative effects.

Sword –

The third of the basic spells, “Sword” is a “focus energy” spell, which enhances a cutting blade or piercing head by reinforcing the material integrity of the cutting area, and also by absorbing kinetic energy on impact and focusing it on the cutting edge. A blade enhanced by this spell can cut through extra-hard and reinforced objects with minimal effort, and this spell can be further enhanced by Force for improved results.

Out of the three Impulse spells listed above, Asagi specializes in the combined use of the Force and Sword Impulse spells, where she both in tandem to improve her physical power, speed and cutting edge. Her mastery of this combination is such that she had demonstrated the ability to cut through 50 inches of industrial-grade steel plate armor with a single stroke – with only a katana in her right hand.

Standard mana shooter spell, common amongst all Mid-childa style and Neo-Belkan style mages. Due to Asagi’s specialization in melee combat, her skill in the use of Buster Shot has dropped to minimal levels, thus she uses this primarily against non-magical opponents and C – B rank mages, and as a distraction attack in many cases.

While Asagi can fire Buster Shots barehanded, she always prefer to use it in conjunction with a pistol-like weapon, usually from her Survi-Buster.

The train of thought I had went along the lines of wondering if the laws were paranoid enough (justifiably or otherwise) to at least look askance at anything which could potentially be modified to fire lethal rounds. Yes, Halley loads it with glue shells, but what if she snaps one day and cooks up some napalm?

Also, it's not like Halley actually needs the Jammer Cannon. She's a librarian, and she (in the original concept) made the Jammer Cannon in her spare time because she thought it would be fun to do so, starting from first principles of projectile mechanics. I was going for the "odd, but sometimes amusing" angle; the legal wrangling required now would be, in my view, Not Worth It.

The original purpose for the Jammer was to show that one didn't need to have magical powers in order to make a difference, and it would have been used as an offensively-wielded overpowered can of Mace. The scene in question has Halley using it to distract a villain, who could shrug it off but takes some time doing so, which turns the tide of battle. She doesn't have to be the one attempting the distraction, but I thought it would have been a nice bit of character insight for her.

Sans Jammer, though, now I don't actually have a (good) reason for Halley to exist or play a significant role in the story other than For The Laughs. Her entire purpose was as a sort of plot device as described above, and Reiz (of the 37th CIAA) rooming with May (Halley's subordinate, of the 8th IAR) was supposed to lead to that scene Affirming Nonmagical Usefulness, through an unlikely set of coincidences.

I need a Library unit at the least, but mostly just as a "key" for routine access to the Infinite Library. I'm not sure how much of the original ideas involving the 8th IAR I should keep, since right now they'd seem to be rather non-sequitur.

Tangent: I have no idea why I listed May as a Second Lieutenant. Maybe I was thinking along the lines of "ensign", but she doesn't really need to be a commissioned officer, being, well, a librarian. I should alter it to Private Second Class, perhaps.

"That's all for today's studies, kids. Please be sure to complete the assignment by tomorrow, and brush up on your sciences! There might be a test tomorrow, as well!"

A collective groan made its way through the class as twenty-some-odd students closed their textbooks and pushed their chairs back, disheartened at the certainty of the science test tomorrow. Mingled in with these twenty students was a certain blonde, one that stood out more than the others, if only for her eyes; one was red, the other green. As she gently tucked some loose hairs behind an ear, Vivio Takamachi gave the class a cursory once-over as she pushed the chair under her desk, picking up her things and making her way toward the classroom door.

She ignored the looks she was given; something she had learned over the past eight years. It wasn't easy to grow up in a place where, despite the discipline, the more annoying flies had a tendancy to seek her out and try to cause her undue stress. This year, "Boatlights" had been something of a favored insult among the populace, and usually some students would literally go out of their way in order to insult her. It didn't affect Vivio, not really; over the course of her school life, she had grown used to it and generally brushed it off.

More annoying was the accusations. It had been no secret (since she proudly admitted it in first grade) that Vivio had two mothers. As such, she was normally accused of checking the fairer sex out, and when she had to use the restroom, any other girl in there would promptly exit, stage left. No matter that really, there wasn't anything wrong with that kind of thing (Vivio absolutely refused to use the word gay, even if her parents weren't), and that she moreover wasn't; but the social stigma had already been attached. Girls and boys alike only got close to her in order to insult her.

It didn't help that she was considered a foreigner. Her last name, though rather prominent back in the day (not so much now), gave her little credit. Kids purposely got her last name of Takamachi wrong, and at one point it got so annoying that she considered switching her last name to Harlown just to shut them up. That would break Nanoha-mama's heart, of course, she had thought at the time.

These days, she was seriously considering it.

"Oi, dork," a voice said behind her before a finger rammed its way to the back of her head. "What's with the gloom and doom look? Not lookin' forward to going home again?"

"Same as usual," Vivio replied, looking at her one and only friend; a blue-haired girl named Syn Virage. The two were as much of a match as any; Syn had an eyepatch on at all times, was one of the tallest girls in school, and refused to consider Vivio a freak. This of course made them a pair of freaks, which led to the Schoolgirl Lesbians rumor that circulated around them. Not that they cared. But it got annoying. "Nanoha-mama will probably be home by now, and Fate-mama probably won't be home for another few hours. So it figures I'll be stuck making dinner again."

"You know what I think?" Syn said as the two turned down the main hall that led to the front door. "I think you need to kick Nanoha-san's ass a little, you know? She's twenty-eight, for crying out loud, and she's been pittling like a 12-year old for, what, four or five years now?"

"Ever since she came back from... what's that world again?" Vivio thought for a minute. "Oh, I can't remember. World Seven-Eleven or something like that." she sighed. "I mean, I can understand that she was pissed because the TSAB transferred her after promising not to so she could stay home, but it's not anything to get upset about." Vivio's temple cross-popped. "I just don't understand her problem!"

"Well, she's your mom, you should," Syn pointed out. "...okay, well, maybe not. But still, maybe there was something that- Yeah, that's why your girlfriend was screaming my name last night, dickweed!" Syn interrupted her talk with Vivio to fire back at a student who had taken a moment to shout something involving the words "girls" and "sex". "Anyway, as I was saying, maybe something happened on that world, you think?"

"I dunno..." Vivio sighed again, looking down and away. "I just wish she'd go back to the way she used to be. I'm tired of seeing her try to force a smile, and fail. Fate-mama is slowly losing it, and oneechan doesn't come along nearly as much as she used to..." Vivio turned her head to look at Syn, chuckling slightly. "I'm sorry. How many times have you heard this?"

"Don't matter," Syn replied, patting Vivio on the back. "I'm your friend, that's what I'm here for," A smile lit up on her. "Besides, I'm your girlfriend, right?"

"Oh, shut up," Vivio laughed as the two walked outside. "Well... I'm gonna go home now. Gotta make dinner before I do my homework..." she looked up at the sky. "It's a pretty day, and I'm gonna be stuck in the house. Figures."

"Well, we don't have school tomorrow," Syn mentioned. "You, uh, wanna go hang out?"
"Sure!"

Vivio smiled at Syn again. "I'll see ya tomorrow, then! I'll call you!"
"Okay! I'll be waiting, so if you don't call, I'm coming over and punching you in the face!" Vivio rolled her eyes and bumped shoulders with the shorter blue-haired girl.

"Shut up, honey," she joked.
"After you do, dear," was the return. "Now go fly home."
"Yeah, yeah." Vivio walked past her friend and paused, taking a deep breath. "Ready, Yume?"

[Yes, ma'am.] A red and yellow gem said from Vivio's necklace. [Glider Fin.] Four wings of light appeared on Vivio's shoes, and with a hop, the girl took to the air. She couldn't help but feel a little accomplished at that; although flight was restricted in the city, Vivio had a relaxed license on it thanks to the school she went to and her own... unique accomplishments.

It wasn't every day that a 14-year old girl was AA rank, after all.

My biggest question for you guys: What do you think Vivio will be like as a 14-year old? I'm playing it safe and showing very little of a personality right now other than just being a teenager, but as the story continues I'll be showing more of it. I'm guessing some mix of Nanoha and Fate, along with typical teenage mannerisms thrown in for good measure.

And also, Syn Virage isn't my creation. She's one of Keroko's OCs that was posted pages ago.

Well, it does seem a bit strange that Nanoha would be distressed over the transfer. Still, this makes for a good introduction, and I'm mighty curious over the first few sentences of an unknown person. Promising indeed. And, oh, by the way, why "boatlights" of all things?

Lowe's got most of it right ; I'll expand from there, digging up from what I've read and researched on how things happen:

1. The first stage in the debriefing process is what is called the "Hot Wash" - at least, by American forces. This is where everyone comes in and does an oral critique of what happened, what went wrong, what went right, etc etc. When this takes place is normally at the discretion of the CO and unit styles, but generally you want to do it within the first 24 hours. For example, Rangers will do their hot wash immediately; according to CSM (Ret) E.L. Haney, Delta lets you sleep first, then hot wash. SEALs also tend to do the hot wash immediately, then rest. The idea of the hot wash is that it's a quick preliminary debriefing, a recap of what happens.

2. After the hot wash, you go and catch some sleep and food. Then, you go, get interviewed again on what happened - because there's the chance that you may remember something you'd forgotten.

3. Third step is the writing of the AAR: After Action Report. This is your account and report of what happened, warts and all, good and bad; your personal AAR will be filed up with the mission documentation. There will be both a main AAR written by the brass on the mission, and the individual AARs written by those woh participated in the battle; to give an example, there are at least 3 AARs on the Battle of Magadishu, written by USAF Technical Sergeant Dan Schilling, Delta Force Sergeant First Class Paul Howe, and SEAL Chief John Gay (I am not making up the last name. A side piece of trivia: Gay and 3 other SEALs from SEAL Team Six/DEVGRU were in the Lost Convoy, and Gay took a bullet to the hip. The bullet hit his combat knife, shattering the blade, but he lived and wasn't paralysed. One of those SEALs was a Lieutanant Commander Eric T. Olsen, now Admiral Eric T. Olsen, Commanding Officer USSOCOM.) These individual AARs are in addition to the overall AAR prepared by Task Force Ranger's staff.

4. Final debrief and evaluation. Everyone gathers together, they all go through the mission one last time, and then the brass evaluates what went right, what could have been done better, and so on. Depending on the unit and the brass, this may be fairly interactive. (In the recollections of Captain Mike Steele, Delta Force planning and debrief sessions have a great deal of Fuck Yous thrown around, with ever rising hot blood and adrenalin until it appeared as if everyone's ready to fight each other. )

5. AARs are collected and the Brass finishes up on the main AAR that gives an overview of the whole mission.

The idea of the hot wash is that you get the basic first impressions of the soldiers, which are then used as your first draft. Then you send them to sleep and get some food, they come back refreshed, and then you redo the debriefing. The reason it's called Hot Wash is because you're stepping right from the heat of battle, where the memory is the freshest. SEALs are firm believers in immediate hot wash and debriefing, though this is probably due to the fact that SEALs deal with highly time-sensitive intelligence.


To expand further, and to repeat, whether they get the resting time depends on the whole process. As I've mentioned above, debriefing isn't just a one-off thing: there's the hot wash and then further reports.

To sum up, process is as follows: Immediate hot wash, rest & food, 2nd debrief & interview, AAR writing, final debriefing. Normally the first few steps will take place withing 24 hours (Hot wash, 2nd debrief, AAR writing). The Final debrief and overall command-level AAR will normally show up within 48-72 hours, to give time for all the other aspects to be sorted through and checked.


To pull an example from the Battle of Mogadishu (mainly because it's the most recent that sticks in my mind), the hot wash was conducted within several hours after the Rangers and Deltas were recovered and the wounded were treated. Once they did their hot wash, they got some rest, but then after that did another debrief and wrote their individual AARs, which where then compiled as part of a main document brief (there is an official AAR for the Battle of Mogadishu, which was among the sources used by Bowden when writing Black Hawk Down; the AARs written by Schilling, Howe and Gay were also of great importance and relevance. Which just goes to show that while troops may hate AARs, they're useful.)

Also, if it's really, really really serious and/or time sensitive, Hayate will need to cut her time alot. Garrison was on the phone to SOCOM and the President less than an hour after the final wounded had come in, reporting the mission results. Perhaps something like, "Sir, we got our asses kicked, and will give you the AAR in 8 hours time."

Heck, I even think it's overpowered to have anything beyond a 1-km destruction radius. The number may look small, but realism isn't. Regarding the links, Nightengales stuff, PhoenixFlare's stuff are the major standouts. Although there has been plenty of other stories floating around that have been equally as good, Lowes diabetes inducing fluff, USB's awesome shorts. Character wise, well you'll have to find out for yourself...

Some of Lowe's aren't as diabetic, I am looking forward for more of those stuff (er, I don't think you named the fiction, did you, Lowe) he wrote about Mai and Smith and Wesson. Unless I missed the continuation already?

Asagi was born into the inner circle of wealth via parents Allen and Amelia Colwell, the 4th generation heads of Colwell Heavy Industries, one of the largest manufacturers of heavy industrial and commercial equipment and vehicles in Midchilda. As the only child, and with no male siblings forthcoming, Asagi became the sole heir to her family’s legacy; as such was raised with all the expectations of the day when she would take over responsibility for the multi-million dollar family business.

This decadent and secure lifestyle of preparation and study did not appeal to the young Asagi, who seemed to long for something more, a meaning and purpose to her life beyond the prospect of being heir to the family fortune. Eternally bored and hopelessly apathetic it seemed that she was doomed to a life of predictability and clockwork.

That meaning soon came knocking into her doorstep one day via a visit from her long-time friend Mayura Labatt, who had just returned with her family from a vacation on Earth, the 97th Administered World. Bearing gifts from her trip Mayura excitedly showed off her spoils to the normally uninterested Asagi, one of them being a DVD of an entire season of the live-action show “GoGo Sentai Boukenger” .

It only took 25 minutes. But a burning passion had been ignited. And when she found out that this was only the tip of the iceberg, Asagi was hooked permanently.

Her obsession known as “Super Sentai” was born.

Endowed with the newly inspired values of Courage and Justice, Asagi aspired to become like the transforming heroes she idolized. It helped that she had innate magical aptitude, and had been a prominent figure in sports, particularly the swordsmanship known as “Kendo”. And so despite her parent’s misgivings, she enrolled into the Time Space Administration Bureau Cadet Academy along with her friends Mayura Labatt and Julie Liu Ming to train as Bureau mages at the age of 13.

By this time the events of the Book of Darkness case had accelerated the revival of Belka-style combat magic, and the three girls were chosen to partake in study under the now three-year-old experimental Class 0061-Q, the first batch of cadets to learn the discipline to be known as Neo-Belka. It was here that they displayed their uncanny prowess in close combat and martial arts. Asagi in particular was known as the best swordfighter of the class, and was even considered to be close to the league of known melee specialists like Fate Testarossa and the Wolkenritter Signum… if only she didn’t have a penchant for Super Sentai-inspired theatrics and drama, which earned her and her friends - now calling themselves the “Belkarangers” - equal parts amusement, frustration and disbelief amongst their peers and superiors.

The most memorable of these incidents was during their final live-fire obstacle course, when Asagi, Mayura and Julie performed a 2-minute long flashy transformation and roll call complete with lighting effects and fireworks… in the middle of combat with hundreds of training rounds and ordnance flying everywhere. Incredulously enough, the three girls not only managed to complete the course completely unscathed, but also nabbed the 2nd fastest time for the class, losing only by a couple of seconds to Cadet Glock Heckler.

With tongue in cheek, Kay continued typing.

Nonetheless, Asagi, along with Mayura and Julie graduated with flying colors, and served under the 79th Ground Batallion under General Hiram Maxim’s command for 8 years, alongside squadmates Shinobu Nakajima, Darry Milfuelle, and underlings Remington Smith and Colt Wesson.

They were honorably discharged from service after their mandatory term ended in October MC0072 – only a few weeks before the 79th would be engaged in the “Hell Girl” incident, which would see the loss of many of their former comrades, including the devastating loss of close personal friend Shinobu Nakajima.

In memory of her fallen friend, Asagi has founded the Search Guard Successor Foundation (or S.G.S.), a secret privately-funded freelance organization working closely with the TSAB dedicated to searching for and cataloging Lost Logia (which Asagi refers to by the alternative term “Precious") in the hopes of preventing more Lost Logia incidents from happening. Recently the SGS once lent limited aid to the Bureau’s special taskforce Riot Force 6, providing anonymous tips and information regarding the location of various artifacts and Lost Logia.

Today, Asagi’s Belkarangers continue their hunt for Lost Logia, and fighting to prevent the valued artifacts from falling into the wrong hands… and looking cool, snip and awesome while doing so, in the spirit of the show long ago that changed her life forever.

Personality:

If there’s one word to describe Asagi, it would be this:

EXTREME

Asagi is a person who lets her emotions take over and run wild in a rampage once something ignites her passions, and for maximum effect nothing gets her passions burning more than a good dose of Super Sentai.

She’s a person whose emotions and feelings reach the limits of the emotional spectrum: in a single moment she can experience the highest of highs, then crash into the lowest depths of depression, then a minute later rebound into a ball of energy like the best thing in the world just happened. And once her mind has been set on a particular task at hand Asagi’s persistence to complete it borders on the unbelievable: much like trying to stop a speeding truck with your bare hands, Asagi’s stubbornness in completing what she started is impossible, lest one is willing to become Supermanto stop her. This stubbornness is legendary amongst everyone she meets, and especially her friends.

Along with these emotional highs Asagi has a flair for the dramatic bordering into the absurd. Given the choice between two equally effective plans in any situation, Asagi will choose the most direct method and transform it into the flashiest, most dramatic, most explosive operation ever complete with DYNAMIC ENTRY, HENSHIN, ROLL CALL and SPECIAL EFFECTS, and sparing no expense and pulling no punches in execution no matter how ludicrous the plan may sound on paper.

(Mayura and Julie call this the “Dynaman Syndrome”, aka “You can never have too many explosions”).

Thankfully her two friends refine her plans into a more sensible working draft before execution.

But full of energy doesn’t mean totally mindless: Asagi was raised as heir to a massive multi-million dollar industrial company built on technology, and as such has the smarts to participate in business and financially related matters, and when absolutely required she is able to play the role of the dainty, restrained and gentle young princess, graceful and elegant in manner and poise.

(It has been suggested that perhaps it’s the massive amounts of energy trapped and repressed when Asagi acts in such a manner that explains where her… explosive behavior afterwards.)

Still, for all her loud and rash behavior Asagi is surprisingly difficult to anger, perhaps due to the optimism she has acquired over the years, and her naturally forgiving nature (some have dubbed her the Goddess of Forgiveness for it). But as with everything she does, once her wrath has been released her fury shall not be sated until her grudge lies on the floor in the puddle of their own blood, preferably chopped up into tiny little pieces (Thankfully Mayura and Julie have prevented Asagi from progressing past the point of making the victim unrecognizable) – or she is appeased through a good showing of "MOERO RESCUE TAMASHII".

All this has stemmed from Asagi’s love of the show that defined her life: Super Sentai. She breathes, she eats, she sleeps, she dreams – in short, she LIVES Super Sentai. Her devotion to Super Sentai has sometimes bordered on the downright OBSESSIVE, like the infamous Shopping Spree of 2011 that left many a retailer on Japan several thousand dollars richer, store shelves empty, and has caused many less fortunate Super Sentai fans in much wailing and gnashing of teeth as stores waited to be restocked of their much beloved merchandise.

As is the case with many who are exposed to Japanese culture and are enamored by it, Asagi intersperses Japanese a lot into her speech, sometimes with unintelligible results. And one of Asagi’s pet peeves is in people bunching together Super Sentai with its Americanized counterpart Power Rangers, going out of her way to ‘educate’ people on the difference between the two franchises, and on how the latter is inferior to the origina-

Despite her many eccentricities (or perhaps because of it), Asagi is still well-loved by those closest to her, especially Mayura and Julie, and her unrelenting perseverance and determination has at least earned her the respect of many of her colleagues. Also, her unique brand of Super Sentai wisdom and energy has rubbed off a few people not only with Mayura and Julie, but most notably on the gunslinger pair Remington Smith and Colt Wesson, transforming them into the crack duo they are today.

While heavily inspired by Super Sentai, Asagi had decided that as Belkarangers they’ll try to do something original for once, and they chose their barrier jackets to do so.

Asagi’s barrier jacket resembles a modified school sailor uniform (aka serafuku) with a large white band running down the front of the blouse down to the skirt – a tribute to the Boukenger suit. Accompanying forearm length falconry gloves, and ironically named go-go boots complete the Belkaranger suits.

Unlike most Super Sentai, the Belkarangers don’t wear full helmets, instead choosing to wear wraparound black headphone visors to cover their eyes. The visors also have forehead mounted searchlights for low-light illumination.

While most mages nowadays prefer their barrier jacket transformations quick and easy, Asagi and the Belkarangers like to take their long and flashy, with Super Sentai inspired fancy poses and roll calls complete with sound effects and BGM courtesy of their devices. In Asagi’s case, her routine is taken from Boukenger’s, with the call of “Belkaranger, Start Up!” to initiate, and until the arrival of the Accelulars used ANY and ALL flip-top cellphones for props.

Whenever her whim takes her, or when lacking the appropriate prop, Asagi uses other Sentai routines, like the Dekaranger or Timeranger routine, using her wallet and her watch respectively for props (and the appropriate removal of clothes for Timeranger revealing her undersuit before transformation).

For the rest of the Belkarangers, the roll call sequence follows from the first of the trio to perform the henshin sequence. As Asagi is always the first to initiate the Boukenger sequence is the most performed, although different sequences have been performed whenever Julie or Mayura initiate.

Skills and Abilities:

Asagi Colwell is officially a AA+-rank ground combat Knight, despite her magical rank being only C+. This is due to her incredible skill with her sword fighting technique, borne out of years of constant practice under various sword arts, with her base style being the Japanese competitive style of Kendo… and various Super Sentai moves and finishers.

For most of the time, Asagi’s attacks with her sword appear to be very blunt, direct and brash, charging in recklessly at the enemy with a flurry of swipes and slashes propelled by unbridled energy and much gusto (complete with sparks, fireworks and much lovely HISSATSU for that Super Sentai effect).

Against serious and skilled opponents though, Asagi’s style and demeanor takes a drastic reversal: she becomes an unnervingly calm, silent and calculating fighter, efficient and deliberate in her attacks with precision slashes and impeccably timed feints and lunges. Her preferred tactic is to conserve her strength and magical energy and evade/defend against enemy attack, preparing her stance while controlling the fight to lead the enemy into the creation of an opening or opportunity, on which she’ll exploit by with an EXPLODING CHOU HISSATSU-

While incredibly deadly in close combat, Asagi’s lack of any decent ranged attacks asides from her Buster Shots means she has to rely on other mages, and a combination of her speed and defensive abilities to cover her approach when fighting ranged opponents.

Devices:

As a Knight relying more on her physical prowess than magic, Asagi has mastery over a lot of non-magical weapons, most often swords and staves. This non-reliance on magical devices gives her incredible versatility in her choice of armament, although for maximum effectiveness Asagi uses an array of simple non-intelligent storage and Armed devices.

Survi-Buster (Asagi) –



Asagi’s most trusted primary weapon. Created by request after her graduation by engineer Aurion Dauer, the Survi-Busters are pistol-like non-intelligent storage devices, inspired from the primary weapons of her favorite Super Sentai group, the Boukenger.

Like its inspiration in the show, the Survi-Buster is a multi-mode weapon with two primary forms: Gun Mode, which is used to cast ranged Buster shots, and the melee use Survi-Blade Mode, where its handle swings back 40 degrees and extends a long double edged blade thus forming a longsword.

Each of the three Belkarangers have their own Survi-Busters, and each is specialized for their respective use. In Asagi’s case, her Survi-Buster is the only one equipped with a cartridge system loaded from an 8-round pistol magazine on the handgrip, and her weapon is defaulted in Blade Form to better accommodate her combat style.

Bouken Bo / Bouken Javelin –



Another Boukenger-inspired device created by Aurion, the Bouken Bo is a long shaft device with pincers on its end, used to grab hard to reach objects. In combat the Bouken Bo can open its jaws and extend a double-edged blade to become the Bouken Javelin, which gives her extended reach and power in close combat. Unlike with the original weapon, Asagi can use the “Extension” spell on the Bouken Bo/Javelin, which lengthens its shaft to a maximum of 20 meters giving her unparalleled reach. Like the Survi-Busters, the Bouken Bo is a simple non-vocal non-intelligent storage device, and reduces itself to a standard device card when stored.

Amaterasu –



The only non-Boukenger inspired weapon in Asagi’s arsenal, Amaterasu is an intelligent longsword-shaped Armed-Device that was a family treasure for more than a hundred years, kept as a display piece due to the lack of active mages in the Colwell clan. As the first Colwell mage in nearly two centuries, Amaterasu was thus entrusted to Asagi’s use after her graduation from the TSAB Academy.

As an intelligent Armed Device Amaterasu can be considered Asagi’s primary magical device, as she performs many of her magical abilities through it, from her Barrier Jacket summoning to activating defensive and offensive abilities. Also, both the Survi-Buster and Bouken Bo have been integrated into Amaterasu’s storage form, allowing Asagi to carry all three weapons in a single device, and she can summon any one of her devices separately from it.

In terms of power, Amaterasu has the highest magical processing and storage capacity of Asagi’s three devices despite its lack of a cartridge system, making it the ideal choice for casting high-level magic spells and attacks reaching up to S+. However this ability comes at the cost of increased mana consumption when Amaterasu is unlocked into weapon form. As Asagi is only ranked B in magical power she rarely uses Amaterasu as a weapon, preferring to use it primarily as a mana spell conduit, unless dire circumstances force her to use its power.

On the flip side, Asagi calls the weapon the “Golden Sword” after its bright golden blade – a coincidental similarity to BoukenRed’s weapon in Boukenger. Similarly, she calls the sword’s male AI “Zubaan”.

In storage form, Amaterasu takes the form of a small coin with an ornate sun pattern engraved on its surface hung on a silver chain necklace.

Auxilliary Devices:

Accelular –



Straight out of Boukenger is the Belkarangers all-in-one multipurpose device, the Accelular. This signature cell-phone like device performs almost every function its original can in the show, including cellular phone communication, compass navigation and ultraviolet blacklight. It also has various scanners and sensors that give it incredible detection abilities, ranging from infrared detection to magic scanning.

(The only thing the Belkaranger’s Accelular can’t do is summon GouGou Vehicles…)

While similar in many respects to the original, several changes and improvements have been made to the design, like the replacement of the main LCD display with a 3-D holographic screen and projector, and tougher materials and construction, allowing it to withstand the harsh rigors of field use. Also, the Belkaranger’s intelligent device AI’s can interface with each other through the Accelular’s computer. And like in the show, the GoGo Turbine is used in the mandatory transformation posing sequences (even though their base intelligent devices perform the actual transformation).

For all its usefulness, the Accelulars are a surprisingly recent addition to the Belkaranger’s arsenal, that they only received in late MC0075. The original request for its creation was put forward by Asagi almost five years ago, when she was finally old enough to be given command of the Colwell company finances and facilities. A series of technical problems associated with the creation of such a non-magical multipurpose device delayed the production of the devices, not to mention the questions regarding the merits and benefits of expending large amounts of financial and technical resources into some saw as a mere toy. Fortunately Asagi’s persistence and logistical maneuvering paid off (by mass-marketing a stripped-down version of the Accelulars into the cellular phone market to cover the costs), and the Accelulars now see extensive use by the Belkarangers in the missions.

Offensive Spell List:

As an alumni of Class 0061-Q, Asagi’s primary spells are the so called “Impulse” spells, which are the most basic of Close Combat oriented spells taught to Neo-Belkan students. There are three spells overall, including:

Force -

In martial combat, one requires physical strength and power to deliver the energy required for impact. The most basic spell for many Neo-Belkan practitioners, and also the easiest to learn, is the “Force” spell, which is a basic spell to externally enhance the wielder’s physical strength. This is achieved using a combination of external levitation (and in some cases, Midchilda-style Barrel Rings), which provide additional aid and support on a mage’s arms or legs. This grants a mage extra physical power in lifting heavy weapons, or further enhancing the power behind a strike.

Blast –

Another basic Neo-Belkan spell, “Blast” is a “static kinetic energy” spell applied at a weapon’s impact point, which multiplies the kinetic energy behind a physical blow without the requirement of adding extra momentum or mass. In combat this significantly improves the damage potential of a normally kinetically weak blow, like a punch.

Although the advantages are considerable, the Blast spell creates significant kinetic energy backlash at the item it is used on, whether a weapon or the mage itself. For this reason, application of this spell is most ideal on sturdy, blunt and dense objects with a large surface area on the impact point, like mallets, clubs and hammers, to better absorb and dissipate the backlash. Impact dissipation spells can also be applied to further reduce the backlash’s negative effects.

Sword –

The third of the basic spells, “Sword” is a “focus energy” spell, which enhances a cutting blade or piercing head by reinforcing the material integrity of the cutting area, and also by absorbing kinetic energy on impact and focusing it on the cutting edge. A blade enhanced by this spell can cut through extra-hard and reinforced objects with minimal effort, and this spell can be further enhanced by Force for improved results.

Out of the three Impulse spells listed above, Asagi specializes in the combined use of the Force and Sword Impulse spells, where she both in tandem to improve her physical power, speed and cutting edge. Her mastery of this combination is such that she had demonstrated the ability to cut through 50 inches of industrial-grade steel plate armor with a single stroke – with only a katana in her right hand.

Standard mana shooter spell, common amongst all Mid-childa style and Neo-Belkan style mages. Due to Asagi’s specialization in melee combat, her skill in the use of Buster Shot has dropped to minimal levels, thus she uses this primarily against non-magical opponents and C – B rank mages, and as a distraction attack in many cases.

While Asagi can fire Buster Shots barehanded, she always prefer to use it in conjunction with a pistol-like weapon, usually from her Survi-Buster.

Although it had been proposed just a month prior, the proximity and scale of the Lost Logia/Relic airport incident made it clear to the TSAB council that an organization would be necessary to police local threats to avoid another disaster. The original proposal was drafted and backed by Lt. General Regius Gaiz and as such is under the direct control of the TSAB Ground Forces. This also limited the range of movement of the organization to Mid-Childa, although a clause was later added to allow their jurisdiction to reach to other worlds should there be a potential high-level threat.

The overall division is quite small due to its specialized objectives. They occupy a single 2-story structure just outside the main TSAB Ground Forces HQ with a pair of hangers for the helicopters and a single training structure in the rear. As of their founding, the main forward forces consist of 1st LT. Shamsel Nagisa and 2nd LT. Ryotaro Nogami. Some questioned the use of an experimental system for such an organization, but they were all quickly dismissed by Lt. Gen. Gaiz saying that it was a proven system he had investigated himself and worthy of such a roll.

Despite the intentions of the division, there were several rumors questioning its founding. One sprung from the fact that, after being initially set aside by the Council as not a priority, the airport disaster occurred and practically paved the way for its rushed approval. Second was on the backer, Lt. Gen. Gaiz. Rumors already existed of his dislike for the Navy as well as of the young Hayate Yagami. Many found it odd for him to propose such a group when word spread of Hayate contemplating a similar division of her own.

General Fighting and Magic Style: As an Investigator, Ashcroft is a hot hand in both projectile as well as hand to hand combat, and is comfortable with not using his device when necessary. Notably enough, he uses a variant of Ninjutsu and good-ol' fashioned boxing in combat.

He uses illusion magic, or rather, he uses illusions on others via magic, and is also capable of using basic shooting spells on others.

His illusions, unlike most, are able to affect others who are not in his line of sight. However, if Ashcroft suffers a major shock, or the person(s) affected by the illusion suffer a shock to the mind greater than that which is created by Ashcroft's illusion, then the illusion will be dispelled.

Also, he cannot do too many things at once: any amount of magic he expends doing something else (such as defending or shooting) while keeping the illusion up reduces the amount of time he can do either of the two by very prohibitive amounts, and as with many male mages, his magic reserves are not that great, so he has to use his resources wisely, especially in situations where he would be likely to use both abilities simultaneously.

This form of magic can, and has resulted in certain hilarious if rather traumatic events.

Ashcroft's Armed Device: Enigma/Colossus is a Armed Device that can take the form of either a pair of crystal mirrors, or a large number of crystal blades.

It speaks a variant of Greek, because of an unfortunate pun that Ashcroft made, which led to a whim, and so on...

Barrier Jacket: To suit his more casual purposes, it takes the form of a casual blazer, tie, shirt and pants.

Design Notes:

Ashcroft's surname was taken from a scenario in Half-Life 2, which I was playing just a week or two before creating him. His name is actually another surname, except that I thought it would do okay as a name, too.

His Device is named after an opposing pair of actual, albeit now obsolete devices. Enigma was a German encryption device used in World War II, while Colossus was a decryption "supercomputer" used to crack and intercept Enigma.

I love illusions, and in the spirit of my love, actually learned some magic tricks based on visual illusions in the past. I'm not a big fan of the Uchiha clan, though.

That's one down. I got the Department name right, hopefully

I'll try to dig deep into my resources of weird mirror/crystal/(HAKU!!!!) related spell names and come up with something more detailed some time later, Chinese New Year Visitations take more of a toll on me than any kind of love I've ever had.

Also, he is almost absolutely merciless and clinical in battle, bringing down opponents with calculated accuracy and a combination of cold mind and hard muscle even when sparring.

General Fighting and Magic Style: As an Investigator, Ashcroft is a hot hand in both projectile as well as hand to hand combat, and is comfortable with not using his device when necessary. Notably enough, he uses a variant of Ninjutsu and good-ol' fashioned boxing in combat.

He uses illusion magic, or rather, he uses illusions on others via magic, and is also capable of using basic shooting spells on others.

His illusions, unlike most, are able to affect others who are not in his line of sight. However, if Ashcroft suffers a major shock, or the person(s) affected by the illusion suffer a shock to the mind greater than that which is created by Ashcroft's illusion, then the illusion will be dispelled.

Also, he cannot do too many things at once: any amount of magic he expends doing something else (such as defending or shooting) while keeping the illusion up reduces the amount of time he can do either of the two by very prohibitive amounts, and as with many male mages, his magic reserves are not that great, so he has to use his resources wisely, especially in situations where he would be likely to use both abilities simultaneously.

This form of magic can, and has resulted in certain hilarious if rather traumatic events.

Ashcroft's Armed Device: Enigma/Colossus is a Armed Device that can take the form of either a pair of crystal mirrors, or a large number of crystal blades.

It speaks a variant of Greek, because of an unfortunate pun that Ashcroft made, which led to a whim, and so on...

Barrier Jacket: To suit his more casual purposes, it takes the form of a casual blazer, tie, shirt and pants.

Design Notes:

Ashcroft's surname was taken from a scenario in Half-Life 2, which I was playing just a week or two before creating him. His name is actually another surname, except that I thought it would do okay as a name, too.

His Device is named after an opposing pair of actual, albeit now obsolete devices. Enigma was a German encryption device used in World War II, while Colossus was a decryption "supercomputer" used to crack and intercept Enigma.

I love illusions, and in the spirit of my love, actually learned some magic tricks based on visual illusions in the past. I'm not a big fan of the Uchiha clan, though.

I'll try to dig deep into my resources of weird mirror/crystal/(HAKU!!!!) related spell names and come up with something more detailed some time later, Chinese New Year Visitations take more of a toll on me than any kind of love I've ever had.

Asides from format, he seems somewhat similar to Roland, almost too much methinks in their desire to stay low Thankfully, rest of his profile does set up his unique persona, including his illusion spells and... I think he's gonna get along with alot of HOTBLOODED characters here
