Hmm, well, for the first-timers, the Anime might seem quite cool on its detective work.
However, it is a shame that the show did not receive a full season (24, 25, or 26 episodes), since only then we would truly feel sorry for the characters that have died (The ones who played the game probably know what I mean). |

Y'know this anime kind of reminds me of Cabin in the Woods. They both take blatant stereotypes in the genre and exploit them for effect. It's kind of really irritating when people complain about it, not realizing that that's what the creators were going for. This is fun because they are not using outright parody, which is kind of dime a dozen in anime.

Series before game.
Hi,
I'm Ace. I'm a game designer for a small local company. I played the game and then started to watch the anime. I want to see the opinions of people that only seen the anime about different aspects of the story and execution: A. Do you like the fast paced tempo? The game is much slower than that. B. Would like to have the social mechanic, "Free Time", as in the game? Meaning Naegi will hang out with others between investigations. C. Do you like he similar style of the game with the pop-ups and some of the scenes? Did you know these where as the game? D. Will the anime make you play the game? I also want to know the opinions of those who had played the game: A. Did you enjoy the anime? B. Do you think it captures the spirit of the game? C. Would you have doe it in a different way? And also to ask everybody what is better: Game or Anime? |

Ooh, fun questions. I'll answer as a game player.
A) You really should ask this when the series is over. But yes, I am enjoying it. B) Despite my answer to A, I don't actually think it does. It captures "something" of the game, but not its spirit. C) Hard to say, the anime industry higher ups tend to be unforgiving. If I had the same number of episodes to work with, which is the only plausible scenario, I'm not sure HOW to have done it differently. I mean, if I were to include something that was cut out, something else that's in it now would have to be cut out in its place. Needless to say, the Game is better, no question about it. |

I watched the first couple episodes before playing the game and it was very interesting, sure when you can cross reference the 30 minute show with the hour+ cases themselves it kind of falls short.
But overall i think it is pretty good. |

B. Yes and no. It's a mystery game, and yet the anime skips over most of the investigations in seconds. It copies game shots a little too much though. C. Yes. I would have made it 24-26 episodes to get all the content in. I also would've added in more of the character interactions, because a lot of them die without us really getting to know them in the anime. Game is better by far, but anime is still good. I like seeing them moving and hearing it fully voiced. c: I also enjoy the ending theme and some other things. |
