And "out of the blue" comes a couple of AzuDa pvc figures in swimsuit mode -

Osaka with other-worldly expression: http://www.hlj.com/product/KBYPP-386
Sasaki in her jaw-dropping splendour: http://www.hlj.com/product/KBYPP-385

The appearance of these new figures associated with the new versions of the manga series has me wondering what else is up....

Those are some cool figures alright.

And while the Sasaki one is cool, hawt and awesome, I actually find myself prefering the moeness of the Osaka one.

Isn't the mangaka doing a 1 off this month?

Adding to the recent spate of *new* Azumanga Daioh figure releases is one of my favorite characters - Kagura. Another swimsuit figure:

Just as a info jog ... the Azu Da manga series was redrawn and expanded recently in a new 3 volume collection (one for each school year). It has new eyecatches for each chapter and the artwork is subtly more in tune with the author's modern Yotsubato style. No word on whether anyone will pick it up for translation/distribution.

Hey guys, I know this thread hasn't been active for years now, but I have some good news. You might know that the american DVD's for Azumanga Daioh went out of print years ago when ADV Films closed down. Well, Sentai Filmworks {Basically a successcer to ADV} recently bought the rights to AD, and the DVD is now available for pre-order on both Amazon.com and Sentail Filmwork's recent website. There's no reason to buy it if you already have the whole series on DVD {The only extras on the new DVD will be some concept art, not even the two animated shorts will be there}, but if you don't already have it then this will be a good oppertunity to buy it.

I'm hoping that the series will be put out on more official streaming sites like Netflix or Hulu when it comes out on DVD, that way there will be more ways for newcomers to get into the show.

I wonder if this could be considered a gateway anime now. Entry level Japanese humor.

Good news indeed ... nice for folks to have the opportunity to buy the discs for this one yet again. Osaka ftw! And Chiyo too ... definitely Chiyo.

Although truth be told I like the writing in the manga more.

A pity the mangaka and the anime adaptation butted heads and the result up to today is no Yotsuba adaptation, but ah well.

I'm pretty sure that the whole "Manga Creator and Anime Director butting heads" thing was just confirmed to be a rumor.
