Yes, but the difference is that those characters were the star focus of the respective arc's ED. Gray's ED should be WAY back there instead of now...

Better late than never. If you are talking about having this ED during Deliora arc then the ED now it's out of place. Well we don't know their time constraints when presenting EDs.

I think a lot of it has to do with their budget, the majority of which they seem to be using on those magic seals.

Decent episode, though there were far to many float heads talking. I can understand why they use it, though not that much. Ah well.

Next weeks episode is easily one of the best parts of the arc, as it should be obvious going by what's shown in the preview. The Erza and Jellal drama is one of the best parts of the series after all.

Nice to see why Jura is known as one of the wizard saints, he was quite scary against Brain.

I thought it was too easy for Hot-Eye to win, Midnight is truly scary, his power is awesome. So he's not controlling Nirvana.

So Wendy not only cured Natsu's poison but also his motion sickness, that's awesome, yay Wendy!

So next ep looked like Jellal and Erza vs Midnight

A lot of ED's don't match up to the storyline for Bleach, Naruto... ect. Ongoing series tend to have a creativity problem when doing ED's at some point. I do suppose though, the animation team is a big fan of Gray. It is a really well done ED, btw. Great song. No spoilers is a plus after seeing quite a few complaints about that in the past. They finally fix that issue which then becomes an issue for an entirely different set of reasons!

Still somewhat cautiously hopeful this isn't the last season of Fairy Tail due to lack of spoilers any other upcoming arcs. Either that, or they had enough material to do two full seasons for this arc.

Oh and just 5 minutes before what happened to Brain, I was thinking to myself how he needed to just die already because he's so annoying. So I was laughing at my own commentary as I watched Ep 62.

Well the Nirvana arc is the longest one in the manga so far, but we're about 3/4, maybe 4/5, finished.

And I have to say it's not one of my favourites from what I've seen so far. I used to wait for Fairy Tail each week with high expectations but now I just don't feel that "OMG WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN NEXT?" feeling.

Oh well it's still fairy tail and it's still awesome though.

Well the Nirvana arc is a long one, and there was a massive spoiler in the last ED for the next arc. I wouldn't worry yet.

By my estimates, at the current rate, the arc will conclude with episode 68. Add an episode or two for transition, and maybe a filler episode or two, and they're pretty much at the point for the next opening anyways. Faced with the choice of 1-3 episodes with an outdated opening, vs 9 episodes with an opening for the next arc rather than the current one, it's not all that surprising that they opted to have the new opening be for the current arc.

They probably would have done this before as the Tower of Paradise and Festival arcs aren't that much shorter than the Oricon Seis arc, except that by the time they reached those arcs, they were averaging 2.5-3 chapters an episode in order to meet their episode 48 end mark and still cover said arcs. Now that the series has been extended and they can go 2 chapters an episode again, this will occur more often when they reach the point of their next opening/ending.

It's also not just a matter of them deciding when to change the opening/ending. It's pretty clear at this point that a decision was made a while back to change the op/ed every 12 or so episodes (possibly a contractual obligation at this point).
