Question: What in the hell was that little thing that popped up in the water at around 5:05 when Bobo first appears?!
Whatever it is seems to have come up butt first and farted then sank to the depths again also do my ear decieve me or is the little flute tune played at morning some sort of old childern's fairy tale song, somehow totally reminds me of some but can't quite put it nail it down.

I just watched the first nine episodes and -sigh- long rant ahead.
Seriously? Is this what people are championing as the next naruto? From the mundane and downright boring natsu, To the made-just-for-fangirls-mostly-topless gray, To the blonde nami ripoff, To the directly copied shikamaru character(Even the powers are the same ffs), How on earth did this get hyped to this level? Yes the character designs might be nice and varied though highly reminiscent of one piece but the point is that this overblown Dungeons and Dragons ripoff has thus far been the same characters, the same arch-types and the same villains as most other shounen being hit on our heads over and over again. I don't know whether its an effect of watching/reading too many shounen but fairy tail has yet to display any originality and uniqueness. |

For gods' sakes, read the manga instead. You'll save time (well, too late), and the art's better. Plus the anime's barely gotten past the starter arcs.
Re: Kageyama/Shikamaru, it really depends how you view the author's intent. I take it as an in-joke, much like the Hoteye/Kuma resemblance. |

Anyway I still like the show but a) I don't particularly mind a lack of originality. b) The only long running fighting shonen I'm experienced with is Negima. c) The humor clicks with me. At the moment it just seems like a fun unambitious piece.

The manga is a lot better than the anime in this case, although the humour is better delivered in the anime.
@ Poetic Justice: Although Mashima does have some Oda-esque drawings, he has his own unique art as well (see RAVE after ch.176). The Kageyama-Shikamaru resemblance was intentional (if you think about it, Shikamaru has the bad guy looks) and although the story is not one of FT's strong points, it's still a fun and light read, with its own touch of emotion and drama. About the characters: yes, they are just as generic as you describe them to be, but that's only for now...after all, you can't start a story where the characters are already deep and developed, where's the fun in that? :P But they do get their arcs, each and every one of them! Spoiler for spoiler, duh!:
