The dark expanse of infinity hangs before my eyes.

Have you ever tried hanging around outside during a bright day, then entering a dark, dim room? That's about what I'm seeing now. But the darkness in here isn't fading as my eyes adjust, like it would in that kind of room.

A galaxy without stars...

It's a little romantic, if you look at it in a certain way. To explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to unravel the stars... only I can't see the stars right now, because of slightly more earthly reasons...

"Alright! Let's crush them!"

A little too earthly, for my taste. But since we're talking about Suzumiya Haruki here, things are far from what I would call 'earthly'. We're a long way from normal.

"I still don't get why they need all this darkness for" I grumbled into my screen. If it weren't for a few random dots here and there, my screen would be complete darkness. Maybe it was defective? They call it "Fog of War". But isn't fog supposed to be white?

A bright dot begun to surge ahead. I decided to report to my commander.

"Haruki, slow down! You're going way too fast!"

"Call me Supreme Commander, First Officer!" Haruki replied, thumping his chest confidently in a highly annoying manner. "The SOS Brigade possesses the highest military ranks; after all, we're the greatest Brigade ever!"

Then who’s the Supreme Commander and First Officer between us? (WTF I DUN UNDERSTAND - ED)

"Commander Suzumiya! Intelligence Officer Nagato-kun reports the enemy has begun suspicious fleet maneuvers." reported the far-too-relaxed bridge bunny Itsuko Koizumi. "Orders?"

"Bah! We'll smash them with a surprise attack!" decided Haruki. A bold statement, as to be expected, but nobody obeyed him. Rather, nobody wanted to obey him. Because even somebody who never played games like this in the first place would know that a head-on attack was nothing less than suicide!

Asahina-sempai raised a hand, looking nervous. "Ahh... ahh... what was I supposed to do again?" he asked.

"Someone as wimpy as you would simply get in our way, Mitsuru!" Haruki declared, pouring over tactical data. "Just get your butt and your supply fleet over there! You're not ready to fight like us men! Kyon, you, Yuuki and Koizumi-chan... you lot engage the enemy head-on, while I prepare our superweapon. We'll blast them into oblivion with one-hit-kill!"

Anybody, please. Save us from this madman.

And hang on a second, why are Koizumi and I here in the first place if only the men are going to fight? We're girls, damnit!

I was planning to grab more MoHS novels to compare with the B-T translations before I started writing more stuff, but apparently the local Kinokuniya bookstore only has Yuuutsu (volume 1, which I already have), Shoushitsu (volume 4), and Bunretsu (volume 9). Looks like I'll have to take the B-T translations (more specifically, the formatting) on faith.

I'm probably going to tackle either Mysterique Sign or Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody. The first has the problem of a normal female high school student (ie the computer club president) living alone, which is usually Not Done, and the second has the problem of Kyonko not likely to want to carry an unconscious Mitsuru before she meets Young Haruki. (Or wander off alone in the dark, for that matter.)

Looking back at my posts in this thread, I think that if I ever do get a semi-official title, it would be "Serious Business". I have the unfortunate tendency to get really intense about writing and fanfic.

On another note, I'd try to convert the manga-only chapter "Knowing Me Knowing You", if my Chinese didn't suck so badly.

So, there have been 81 Kyons in World of Warcraft, according to Armory listings of the US/Oceanic servers. I'd been watching to see when it would appear, and it would appear that today it just found its first Kyonko.

I've been meaning to ask you panzer: I notice you have no outlining in your fanart. Do you use something like Painter then, or just like Photoshop but you choose to delete your sketch/outline layer before finishing?

I use Photoshop, but I don't keep my outlines. My paths are straight out filled the moment that I'm done with the paths and for true outlining, I would use a stylus to draw out truly horrendous stuff. My paths overlap (I know I can use intersect to make that problem go away... but...)

At anyrate, For me to vector trace in order to duplicate oftentime means that I have to go back and purposely trace the outline and apply it on separate layers...



Edit: Lucky Star style is easy and lazy on the surface as the shading+eyes aren't as demanding, but can blow up in your face with the exaggerated body proportions!
