Y'know, on that note, I would've THOUGHT that common sense would have dictated to everybody that there was something behind the cast not being surprised with his eyesight returning. Wow, lots of crazy stuff. I'm not really sure what Takuma was inferring to when he said he would protect his mother at the end, but I don't think he was specifically talking about Hayami. If he was, I would expect that that idea will be straightened out next week. Looks like I was off in how episodes 11 and 12 would flow, though. I honestly didn't think they'd be able to stretch this drama conflict across three episodes, but that they did, lol.

Now, the fact that they showed us at the end that Takuma had stopped the old man from shooting Hayami at the end is strong proof that we're not going to get a psycho ending. If we were, it would've at the very least saved the scene where Takuma stops the old man for next episode and just given us a cliffhanger with the old man shooting at Hayami.

Here, in H2O, it's more likely that the villagers kill the kids or they end up insane than one of the girls killing the rest.

So it's not common sense to realize that the staff entrusted with an anime production, and tons of money to produce it, should be smart enough to know that people would be surprised when a blind person suddenly gets his sight back?

Riiiiiiight. Suuuuure. Thousands of anime fans knew that people would be surprised when a blind person can see again. I'm pretty sure the staff of this anime know it too. It's the fault of the complaining anime fans for not giving the staff the credit of possessing basic intelligence.

And considering all the ridiculous flak this show got over the whole "no surpise over blindness healing" thing, I think I'm actually being rather calm about it. I equate peoples' lack of common sense on this topic to the lack of common sense people show if/when they look down the barrel of a loaded gun.

And it's not impossible for people to think of reasons for why they aren't surprised. Like time skipping.

This isn't the first time something important happened, yet all of the reactions from the characters were subdued.
Like everyone suddenly getting along with Hayami, or Hinata suddenly saying she's Hotaru.

You seem to have straying from the topic. I'm not talking about the people who realized there must be a reason for the non-surprise. I'm one of those people.

I'm talking about the viewers who complained and whined about how the lack of surprise in Takuma's "recovery." They bashed the show for it, rather than agreeing that the staff must be thinking of something.

He was blind at the beginning of the series. He "regained" his sight at the end of episode one. Viewers complained about the lack of surprise to his "recovery." I'm still not seeing what you're trying to say.

I've seen insane asylums with more sense then these characters. Old men chasing little girls with shotguns, boy going from pissed to suicidal to confident in a day. Seeing Yui pretty much save the day was rather shocking IMO, she's living prove that this will be a happy ending. As for the "Mother" comment, I think he was referring to the whole Kohinata/Hirose deal. Hell I ain't sure. One last thing, at first I thought maybe his mom killed herself thinking she was alone, now it turns out Takuma was holding on to her arm?! WHAT THE **** WAS SHE THINKING?!

Wow this show just took a major detour through stupid town. At this point I wish they would have just went with the Maho Shojo Otoha show for the rest of the series. I'm going to finish it just to see how this is going to turn out but my already strained suspension of disbelief just snapped.

only thing i can say is that they were not kidding when they say this show was going to rock your life. I got double stupefied with Dragonaut and this show! Thanks goodness saturday is around the corner. True tears, kimikiss, Gundam, persona and they are my noble masters should eturn me to normal.

After giving it some more thought, what they did in this episode is actually a very interesting way to tie this whole story together. The idea that Takuma was trying to save Hayami as a post-traumatic reflection of his need to save his suiciding mother is weird but interesting on a lot of levels. It ties in perfectly to his blindness, his feeling like he can't do anything, and Otoha's encouragement to do something about it rather than just wallow if self-pity. What he has to come to terms with now is whether the love he feels for Hayami was really just displaced love for his dead mother -- that's pretty messy! So basically, on the whole, the purpose of Otoha's intervention was to eventually force Takuma to face the inner demons that were preventing him from being able to see. I always figured that was the case, but I didn't realize how intricately connected all that had happened thus far had been. Certainly, a lot of the plot points being covered here are over-the-top, but the way the ideas are connected to each other and the message they're trying to send is quite coherent. So, though the show continues to be... what it is (I'm not even sure how to describe it exactly -- "A.D.D." almost comes to mind. It's like a rollercoaster, really.), I'm glad that there's still a logic that's tieing things together.

And on reflection, I wouldn't say that this episode would have strained my disbelief any more than any of the other episodes did. Takuma's descent into trauma-enduced temporary insanity isn't unheard of by any means. The villagers taking a shotgun to Hayami in a desperate move to wipe her out before she does more damage fits the profile of the village we've seen so far. (Remember, they don't see her as a human being. They literally consider her a bug that needs to be squashed.) Hayami's behaviour is consistent with her personality as well. So, it's all exaggerated a lot, of course (like I said, "A.D.D."), but it's within the story's framework.

Spoiler for Somewhat agree, but regarding believability...:

The thing with me is that I initially had a problem with the reaction of virtually the whole town to Hayami. I mean I can understand them having some issues with her family and that's a "normal" human thing, but the degree of that reaction was a bit too much for me. Then when they built on that overreaction to move the story along it made it harder for me to buy into. It started getting really strained for me when Takuma started apparently buying into that crap contrary to his previous beliefs and actions. But honestly at this point the house of cards was already in danger of collapse to me. The attempted murder was just the final straw so to speak.

I know everything can be somewhat rationalized, I just think they tried to give the story too much bang. Had they toned it down a bit I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more. Believability in regards to the story isn't as important to me as it is to character reactions. For example a show like Da Capo isn't exactly believable, but since the characters acted in a believable manner it worked out fine for me.
