And most mangaka started off drawing doujin anyway. It’d be a bit hypocritical for them to start complaining now. She’s about as gay as Haruhi Suzumiya is. She just does it because that’s what she thinks she ought to do … maybe. That’s not to say that she definitely isn’t… Quote:

Q: Is Hiroyi a prominent character in the manga? I’d like to see more of her… Q: My computer can display Japanese fonts but for some reason I still can’t see the ‘Star’ in the middle of Lucky Star. Does anyone know why this might be?

Question: Kagami frequently says something like "Ossu" when she greets Kona-chan. Is that correct? AFAICT that's used as a greeting primarily between male friends (like "yo!"), but can it be used in informal situations by anyone as well? Or is she saying something else?
Thanks! |

Here's something - I heard someone allegedly quote Kagami Yoshimizu, saying that "Konata & Kagami (as a couple) is whatever the readers think it is". The person couldn't provide any source. Did Yoshimizu really say that? It would make me happy if he did.

It isn't unusual for an author to leave the specifics of a relationship ambiguous enough that fans can read whatever they like into a situation. There have certainly been enough very loud discussions about K&K.

As a viewer/reader, I think that's a smart move. I like it when it's up to me. I asked because some people on another forum were basically saying "Well they're straight so I'm right and you're wrong." I guess I'd like to ask them where they got their facts if the author himself claimed ambiguity to the matter.

Myself, I tend to think they're just very bonded close friends of the type common to Japanese high school culture. But I certainly concede there are plenty of moments where one could argue it might be much more.

I'm really hoping for some mangaka to come out with a statement about how little control they actually have on an anime. Really, they don't. |

かがみ~ん (kagami~n) ... I highly recommend this book to you as it is funny and comes pretty close to what you may be looking for. It is in Japanese but even if you don't read the language, the images tell the stories pretty well.
Its a collection of short stories written and drawn by other mangaka concerning the ambiguous nature of the relationship between Konata and Kagami. It is my translation project for the fall. Title: らき☆すた コミックアラカルト~ラッキーたーん (角川コミックス) (コミック) Here's a link to amazon.co.jp for it. The ISBN-13 code is 978-4048541640. I've seen it for sale at Kinokinuya bookstores both in San Francisco and Portland; also in anime/manga stores in L.A., so if a store carries the japanese versions of Lucky*Star at all, they'll probably have it.

Good to know that it's your translation project. The (frivilous) fan in me would probably buy it regardless, but I'm betting that I'd really like to know what it says too. Again, thank you. That was really nice of you! |
