Hehe.. if you can sit through the whole thing, Strawberry Panic! actually has much more explicit content than Marimite in terms of the character's relationships, and is without a doubt less suitable for kids.

I definitely like Maria better in terms of story, never once did i "skip ahead" with Maria, but on many occasions SP was boring to the point i skip ahead to the interesting parts, the story on a whole was good, but some parts just bored me to sleep.
However, i absolutely love the music for SP....Maria doesnt really have a good OP/ED... But in terms of overall anime, Maria wins

SP is pretty good as an anime in itself, side from a few slow paced ep
that being said...i feel that SP's plot moves a lot faster and focused than Maria, even though Maria keeps the viewers interested, the underlying plot moves very very slowly.

This is a bit of an unfair poll since it's in the Maria-sama ga Miteru forum. Since the only people likely to be here are those who already predisposed to liking it, it's obviously going to be more popular here than Strawberry Panic. This poll will generate much more representative results if it were put in a different forum.
That said, Marimite is better than Strawberry Panic in just about every single possible way. Not only does the former have better characters, plot, writing, themes, music, and so on, it's funnier as well.

I guess that really depends on how you define shoujo-ai. To my mind, Marimite is most definetly shoujo-ai, because the stories are all about the loveing relations between pairs of girls. If you feel that shoujo-ai has to include actual physical relations, then there is really only one character in Marimite that falls into that catagory, as opposed to several obvious lesbian couples in SP!.

There were so many things that didn't agree with me when it came to Strawberry Panic... I watched it due to the lack of anything else yuri to watch but geez parts of it was just so the bad kind of weird... |

Strawberry Panic's story was good and very predictable.
However, Maria-sama Ga Miteru ..is.. ..just.. CLASSIC!! XD Love it! n_n The animation, cinematography, styles, character developtment, etc. SP is good, but it's not something I wanna watch again, I think I'd preffer to watch Kannazuki no Miko than SP. As for MariMite.. Watched the 1st season 7 times, 2nd season 4 to 5 times, 1st to 3rd OVA 7 times.. 4th OVA 2 times.. n_n Though, in the OVAs, it seems the anime is getting a bit duller lately.. |

I did enjoy Strawberry Panic. It was worth watching just for Yaya and Kaname in my view, lol. I also liked Nagisa and Shizuma as a couple, even if did mostly seem a bit contrived (and poor Tamao got a really raw deal). But, as many people have said, I never watched SP with the same level of emotional involvement as Marimite. The characters were likeable enough, but hardly interesting and complex in the same way Marimite's characters are. I found Hikari almost like Shimako without the personality (even if she is all cute and moe and stuff), and Amane is definitely comparable to Rei as the school's sporty, fangirl collecting 'tomboy'. And the Virgin Mary statue couldn't have been a more blatant nod to Marimite. All the way through, in fact, I noticed scenes and characters that were very obviously indebted to Marimite.
Basically, SP is an enjoyable enough little series, but I don't feel it can even be compared to Marimite. It has nowhere near the depth or beauty. Last edited by Sarah89; 2007-07-31 at 19:29. |
