I have created a group centered on the creation of characters and writing fanfiction for a certain anime, would it be possible to add a 'fanworks' category?

I noticed we have a lot of uncategorized social groups so I've sent messages to those who maintain them asking that they consider selecting a one of the existing categories or suggest a new one. Anyone else who has suggestions is welcome to join in...

Wow, that was a quick reply... you beat me to my own post. Anyway; yes, fanworks would cover a suitable range of groups...

Note to anyone suggesting new groups: please provide a short description, if you've seen the current list you'll notice only one group actually has one. I would like to fix that at the same time.

Fanworks description: Groups that focus on creating characters, fanfiction, fanvideo or other fan media for existing anime/manga.

Not quite sure whether to add games into this description... speaking of which, would games not be a good category of its own?

I wonder if there's a handy plugin to help pop-up social groups into the public area a little more. I'm all for having them mostly hidden but the way they are now seems a little too much maybe. I mean you can hardly tell they exist, and its not very convenient to get to them -- navigation wise.

I'm not sure how categories for groups work but if groups are allowed to select only one then a alternative solution could be to add simple vBulletin Links to social group categories as sub-forums of the non-series area (ie. "Fanworks" could be linked from "Fan creation" while say a "Fandom" category is part of "General Anime", etc). It would probably help the forums as well as the groups in the category.

What do you think NW?

My group is going to be in this category, after all. So I suggest my group should most likely be in Character appreciation.

Well, I'm not aiming to promote the groups at the moment; visually or otherwise. This exercise is just to organise the current groups a little and strictly within the bounds of what is already available. If we ever consider some sort of context based integration with the main forum areas it will be after reviewing what changes version 4 imposes on us.

I've changed it for you; but just to clarify: the point was to encourage creators to think a little about the categorisation and change the settings on their own. So I don't have to...

I have noticed that several groups are centered on the nationality of the people here, while others center themselves around a cultural theme in particular.

Could these two maybe form a new category all on it's own?

Kinda like Culture or Social, maybe?

I really have no idea where to put my current Malaysian club and my muslim group in the current sub category setup.. so they stays in uncategorized.

Which is why I proposed the Real Life sub category back then.

I have a group dedicated to an aspect of anime hair, so it don't quite fit into any of the current categories. I'm not sure what to suggest for it, either. Maybe... something along the lines of "General Anime" or "Anime Aspects". Or something.

My group

Okay, let's go...

I've just recent;y recieved a PM with a recomendation to list my "uncategorized" groups to any category... The problem is the two ones I've as "uncategorized" just don't fit to any of the categories that exist (and reading the answers to this thread doesn't seem to beable to increaze the actual categories) so shouldn't it be better to leave them as uncategorized?

-1 to Social (too broad; they are already "Social" groups). I'd say "National" or "Patriotic" instead.

Please suggest what category your group(s) would fit in (even if the category doesn't exist yet), at least for future reference.

I received the PM and decided to post here.

since the group I created is for Filipinos, I'd say its category is about nationality. I'm not sure though.

I was basing it on being the same idea, even though its plural. Also, don't forget its your choice I'm only recommending it to you.
