Seems you missed the point. The Barrett 50 Cal does not have heat-seeking capabilities. There are guns with specialized ammo that do, but the Barrett M82/M107 does NOT have heat-seeking bullets.

The funny point was supposed to be a politician seeking to ban a weapon of which she has no practical knowledge.

Not that most civilians would have any use for a 50 Cal sniper rifle anyway. That thing weighs 30 pounds unloaded, and really only effective against vehicles, as it's overkill for a person. Another sniper rifle like the MSG90, SR-25, M24, M-200, or just about any other sniper rifle of smaller caliber would be more effective in an antipersonnel role. It is occasionally used for anti-personnel, but only rarely. Not only all that, they are ridiculously expensive; expensive enough that if someone has the money to buy one, they can probably get it whether or not it's legal.
