Asuka survives but seems to loose her eye. Hope this is not permanent but the fact we do not see her with both eyes in preview doesn't give much hope.

Quite a few R/S scenes in 2.0 too, A/S scenes gets shafted as predicted, but now it seems that Asuka really likes Shinji for a change, thus being a pure tsundere in this case. But in terms of material and development R/S fans should be more happy than A/S ones. And there is no kiss, of course.

Mari plays a crucial role towards the end of the movie. She is the one who forces(and I mean literally grabbing him out with Unit 02's hand) Shinji out of the shelter when Zeruel is having his way.

She is also unique from other pilots in that she seems to enjoy piloting the EVA and fighting the angels. Unlike Asuka, she has no interest in proving herself.

As far as the DVD goes, I suppose it will be at least 7 months till release. It might take longer if Anno decides to edit or add some materials.

There are many things about the review that made me go "what?!" Like Rei wanting to have a party? Or the whole cooking deal? I mean, it's nothing bad, in fact, I like the fact they're making her look more human (even more than the manga), but it's still a bit odd, given the impression the anime left on me about her.

Anyway, I'm loving Mari.

Mari had part of Asuka's crazy personality implanted into her while Asuka becomes a stereotypical harem tsundere. Boring. Well at least know we know why she is a captain.

So that she can be the pirate captain Arrrh! with one eye! But seriously, Asuka with one eye (and a pirate eye-patch, no less) is a fail. Well Shikinami basically is a fail in the movie so far anyway, compared to Sohryu aka real Asuka from the original.

As far as Rei and Shinji goes, I am not sure what you mean by "other" but I will list the scenes that I remember.

・Rei and Shinji have a conversation at some kind of research facility in front of a giant fish tank.
・At the same place, Shinji, Rei, Asuka, Touji, Kensuke, Pen-Pen, and Kaji all have a lunch together which Shinji has brought. When Shinji asks Rei why she isn't eating, she says she doesn't eat meat. Touji takes Rei's luch b/c she isn't eating. Shinji gives her a cup of miso soup and she says oishii.
・While in school, Shinji, who now has to cook for himself, Misato, and Asuka, brings an extra box of lunch for Rei, to which she says arigatou. Asuka is looking at this and stops eating the lunch, which was made by Shinji, and gives the rest to Hikari.
・Rei decides to host some kind of a lunch get together to provide an opportunity for Shinji and Gendou to reconcile.She starts to practice cooking.
・Shinji notices the injuries on Rei's hand and fingers. when he asks her about them she says it's a secret but the viewers clearly know they are from the cooking.
・Asuka also starts to cook(for Shinji), she she receives an invitation for the party or whatever.
・Rei and Asuka have that infamous elevator scene as seen in episode 22(I think) of the tv series. Though Rei does start the conversation with Asuka about EVA(but the content is different from the tv series), when Asuka tries to slap Rei, she grabs Asuka's arm and STOPS her. Asuka is surprised and notices the multiple band-aides on Rei's hands and though Asuka does have cuts of her own, Rei clearly has more of them. This is probably an indication that Rei is trying harder to improve her cooking skills. As Asuka is getting off the elevator, she asks what Rei thinks of Shinji. Rei says she doesn't know but when she is with him, she feels warm and that she also wants Shinji to feel warm. Asuka gets off the elevator and makes a comment that Rei loves Shinji.
・Rei finds and picks up Shinji's music player from the trash, which Shnji has thrown away after the Unit 03 incident.
・When fighting Zeruel, she has brought Shinji's music player into the entry plug. She also states that she wants a world where Shinji doesn't have to fight.
・The reason Shinji decides to pilot the EVA again is to save Rei.
・When the battery runs, Shinji shouts "Give her back!!!" and unit 01 goes into berserk mode or rather angel/god mode in this movie.
・After defeating Zeruel, Shinji attempts to salvage Rei's soul from Zeruel's core. Rei and Shinji have a conversation, in a sort of a mental/soul realm, where Rei says don't bother because she is replaceable. Shinji answers she has no spares and Rei seems moved by this statement. Shinji pulls her out of Zeruel's core and they embrace(still in a different realm).
・The movie ends with Rei and Shinji both trapped within Unit 01.

Well those who saw and spoil things all say that RxS in the movie looks even more sibling-like than in TV. But even so there rae more SxR scenes while AxS gets shafted (though Asuka shows interest in Shinji, Shinji doesnt seem to be all that attracted to Asuka and

Wait, what? Isn't that a taaaad bit reactionary?

I'm just surprised that she was just maimed at this point, given the streamlining of the new timeline. Touji, if everyone remembers, was KILLED in the same scene in the comic.

Also, the movie just gives so SO much fuel for the Wild Mass Guessing already going on about the timeline the movie actually belongs to. Kaworu's crack at the end of the movie, and the conversation at the aquarium are absolute FUEL for this.

The thing is though, medical eyepatches are just that -- antiseptic gauzes that can't be worn or used in normal, everyday living. Assuming that Asuka's injuries are actually permanent (Haruhi forbid) she can't walk around with bandages forever. I mean, it's not like everyone can be like Vyse from Skies of Arcadia.

It's a superficial complaint, really.

Pray that it'll be out this time next year, if not a bit later.
