Ok, I played it a bit more. The battle system is definitely lifted from BRS The Game. Parrying just reduces the damage, you have to dodge to avoid taking any damage. Despite movies showing the contrary, button mashing will get you nowhere, there's need of a precise timing and tempo. Once a bar in the upper left of the screen is charged, you can use skills you assign to buttons of the controller. The only limitation is that you can fight only one enemy at once: multi enemy boss fights are done by attacking them in sequence.
You can shoot at distance or hop near and use Toki/Towa's dagger, the movement of switching range leaves you open though. Enemies can do the same, and can also a semi-stun effect that empties your skill bar.
The background are decent, I'd say. Certain static ones are really horrible, and I really can't understand why they did it.
Story-wise it throws you in the middle and only after a few tutorials starts explaining something, but apparently
Spoiler for Toki & Towa spoilers:

The main character (default name is "Zack") alternates between serious and well, kind of idiotic behavior, and that happens even in the wedding scene all the promo material showed (I'll elaborate if someone is curious).
Overall I'm enjoying it though.

Please elaborate and thanks for the impressions. The battle system sounds at least like its fun.

Let's be clear: the story is absurdly over the top and it's not really serious, despite the premise. I just did one dungeon and a few sidequest, but I already encountered, among others, people that call Toki "number 6" out of the blue, a club of assassins fans that run a cake shop, with their leader that constantly messes around Toki and Towa... which lead to certain amusing scenes
Spoiler for Game spoiler:
And I could go on.
As for the main character...

Spoiler for Spoiler for the beginning of the game + more details:

I'm actually torn apart on whether I should get this. I heard it was easy. I HATE, easy >=02. The lack of many keyframes in the animation makes it look choppy too. Still, I want to support the game, given what it tried to do.

Is it really that easy? My friend got some difficulty when he bought and played it... though he was complaining when he just got the game so I don't know whether the difficulty is still there in late game.

just thank them for translating it in the first place. Not all JRPGs get the same treatment

PS3 exclusive JRPG coming to the West, it's a no brainer that you should get it even if you never unpack it ^_^;;; The only possible exception would be for people who do not own a PS3, and even then I'd ask them to consider buying the game (and a console) lol.

What does the press release mean by "a variety of DLC"?

This game finally available in my country. I can't say much about it but I'm pretty excited to see its trailers and screenshots which is impressive even for PS3 standards, maybe because there aren't many similar games to begin with. It really bugs me that there are too many "macho" games dominating PS3 nowadays and at least this game balanced that little bit.

The reviewer on RPGfan gave this game a 38%. I don't suppose anybody here can give an alternate point of view?

RPGamer gave it 1/5 lol.

I personally don't like the battle system from the getgo (I want a party dammit!) but still buying it because my penniless bro wants to play it. So I hope my bro's experience lies more with what Famitsu did, who gave it a respectable 32/40.

Thanks RPGfan and RPGamer, you saved me 50$. If hardcore JRPGs hated it, there no reason for me to try it as well.

Generally bad reviews all around. It's a mistake to say that there are two playable characters when it's just a palette switch with added personality. Well ok, the blonde one used knife as a melee. The battle system from what I saw will grow tedious too fast and apparently the characters interaction is pretty shallow from what people are saying. Poor voice performance from Japanese side is also mentioned, which I find rather surprising.

I don't know, I would like to try it myself but it's not worth the current price.
