Im talking of "Computer" and "Recycle bin" icons.
I found how to do it: -Click Start, Click Run, Type GPEDIT.MSC, Press Enter -On the Left Column Expand Administrative Templates, click on Desktop -On the Right Column Find Remove Recycle Bin Icon from Desktop -Double click on it, A Property Window will Appear -Select Enable option, Press OK. -Refresh Desktop, Enjoy! -To Show Recycle Bin Icon on Desktop, Do same steps but instead of Enable select Not Configured. But... It hide them, however i cant use the cumputer icon with objectdock after do this...is there any way for hide the "Computer" icon but be able to use it in objectdock?. |

Rather than change the computer security policy to activly disable the component, which is what the group policy editor (GPEDIT) does, try a registry tweak to hide it, using TweakUI which can be downloaded from Microsoft's site. Note: The links are for the XP version of Tweak UI. I don't know if there is a Vista version and I'm afraid I don't care to spend time finding out. A search engine will probably help you find the answer if one is required.
Edit: Ah! I knew there was an out-of-the-box way of doing it but damned if I could remember what it was... use jpwong's suggestion below unless you want the other features Tweak UI offers... Last edited by NightWish; 2008-08-07 at 19:57. |

This is how you'd hide the my computer icon on XP. I don't know if the same method would work on Vista though.
Right click desktop Select Properties Select Desktop tab Click Customize Desktop Deselect the My Computer Icon

I got really confused a while ago with the roundabout methods you guys listed. Or better yet, in XP you can right-click on the desktop and shoo away all icons altogether, although that might not be what you're trying to do. |
