looking for supernatural/depressing anime
Hello everyone I am new to this site. I joined because I am interested in learning about some good anime. My preferences are anime with supernatural or fantasy themes as well as good in depth actions with a nice plot. I also like the anime to be depressing and sad in a way because this causes me to empathize to the characters in the anime. I also don't mind tragedies. Anime that I have previously watched and greatly enjoyed are
1. Ayakashi 2. noein to your other self 3. clannad after story 4. 11 eyes 5. angel beats 6. sora no otoshimono (forte) 7. death note thank you for the help

I'll making the obvious suggestion since you've seen Clannad and Angel Beats, I'd say Kanon 2006 and Air [Key being behind both of them].
Others I'd say maybe some of these might fit[but might be more so be too supernatural, or being tragedy rather than depressing to you]: Katanagatari Kannazuki no Miko Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica

I recommend Kara no Kyoukai. It's a series of seven films, each about murders that are taking place through supernatural means. The protagonist is Ryougi Shiki, a girl that has been raised in a family of demon hunters and has the ability to see the death of everything through her Mystic Eyes of Death Perception. She also has an almost insatable urge to kill. It also has some amazing art and animation.

I'll second Air,Kanon 2006 and Ga-Rei Zero.
I'll also second Claymore, it is more about yoma (monsters) not ghosts/zombies and stuff but do have great action and some nice drama. Ghost Hunt are a great series about ghost hunting. Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom are not supernatural but realistc based. However, series have a lot of deph and drama. Shiki, from the same author as Ghost Hunt. Series have both supernatural, mystery and drama stuff.

I'll second ga rei zero, definitely the sad depressinf element there. there is sadness in claymore too, cannot say much but the main character has a deep wound in her heart. I'd say moribito is a possibility but i would not necessarily consider it sad as much as honorable and committed.
vampire diaries in my opinion is sad despite the comedic aspects of it. some of the relationships there are built upon impossibility i hope not to be saying to much good luck!! sooooooooooooorry vampire kinghts, my apollogies to all for such a terrible confusion Last edited by Pellissier; 2011-03-07 at 15:33. Wow thanks everyone I read a summary of all the anime's that were suggested and they all look good. I just opened an account for this forum today and I do not regret it at all. I had given up hope in finding some good anime but I have to say I know I will find some great anime's now thanks to this forum and the people that are in it.

If that's not "Ayakashi Samurai Horror Tales" on your list, I'll recommend the third installment of that series, Bakeneko. The Apothecary continues his supernatural adventures in the sequel Mononoke.
Like you, Noein is one of my favorite shows. You might give Dennou Coil and Ghost Hound a try. Finally I'll recommend Monster just on general principles.

Serial Experiments Lain. Depressing, psychedelic, supernatural-ish, somewhat complex.

Um, how about Supernatural?
Based on the American TV show, so far it's pretty damn good...Equal parts gloom and doom with exciting "soopanatural" action aswell...The relationship between the two main characters' (brothers) at times is really depressing as they lament on their bitter family matters and search for their AWOL father who's hunting the demon that killed their mother... However if you just wanna lay motionless like a corpse or curl up in a dark corner and pee on yourself, Saikano's what you're looking for...
