May still be illegal base on prefectures. Even still, even with statuses of both Erina and Souma's father. It would be frown upon highly and most likely end both of their careers.

I am wondering where this disturbing train of thought came from? I understand poking fun and having mindless amusement, but there should be a boundary for it.

Could be that Souma took his mother's surname. It is actually quite unusual in Japan.

Even with that it is still unusual. Upon marriage, the female partner drops their surname and joins their husband.

I don't think Erina is related to Soma. She probably just tasted some of his dad's cooking thanks to both of their reputations and connections.

Eh, I discussed this two pages ago.
There are many cases of male adapting the wife's family name, especially when the wife's family is a more influential house.
Research the word "muko youshi".

Of course I don't expect Yukihira family to be of such case, Jouichiro may have had other intentions.

He probably had Souma go with his mother's maiden name so that he wouldn't get recognized by his father's surname. It's clear by now that Souma's dad is well known and has high prestige, and being a relative unknown would make his fight to the top a little more worthwhile.

My personal theories (exclusive against each other) on the situation:

1. Yukihara is the mother's surname

2. Yukihara is a new surname established by the parents

3, Souma is a great-grandson, thus making Erina an aunt
