Fairy Tail Anime Episode Discussion Thread [Episode 165 and Onward]

We don't know that much about Dragons. Something tells me these Dragons may be a lot like Warcraft dragons. They are capable of human speech. They are sentient and extremely powerful sorcerers. It is possible they could shapeshift. It's also possible that not all Dragons shared the same views on humans. Maybe one of them wanted to mingle with the humans.

It's kind of like the plot for Dragon Quest 8 where the silent protagonist is a half man/half dragon. His father was a human prince and his mother was a dragon.

As for a spirit dragon? It's possible. Anyhow, Lucy's mom doesn't need to be a spirit dragon anyway. She could be a dragon master of any element.

If Lucy would turn out to be part Dragon her element could be light since her summons are all based on star constellations. Her human side would let her access summoned creatures while her dragon side would give her access to light or star based magic.


Anyhow, I don't think we even know where Natsu and the other 2 Dragon Slayers actually came from. They were just "orphaned" children they happened to find? We don't even know where these kids came from or why the Dragons wanted them. They could all be half breeds.

You should title your spoiler tag with "manga" when mentioning manga material... 29 implies that it regards just this previous episode (thus only anime material)

Also, while ignell has displayed fierce pride, he has not expressed the kind of atitude where he thinks that humans are beneath him... afterall, each one of the dragons did raise a human (well as far as we know i mean)... and Natsu seems to have very fond memories of ignell

I've never played warcraft so I don't know what you're talking about. But what makes you assume that these dragons can speak the human language? Why couldn't it be the other way around where the dragon slayers could speak the language of the dragons? That seems a lot more likely to me, considering the fact that they were all raised up by the dragons and babies learn the languages they hear really quickly when they're young.

I admit that some dragons may have different views and there is a possibility they could change forms. But what reason would they have to turn into a human? Humans are weak. Dragons can fly and use powerful magic. It wouldn't be loneliness either because there are other dragons and also the dragon slayers they raised up. If you're going to say because Layla fell in love with Lucy's father, well her father definitely doesn't seem pleasant at all .

Ok, there is no way Lucy could be a dragon slayer, even partially. The most important thing is that dragon slayers use a different type of magic. Yet Lucy already has a type of magic, which is stellar spirit mage. To be a dragon slayer, you have to start out with an elemental type of magic. Unless we suddenly find out that mages can use/learn more than one kind of magic, Lucy is stuck with summoning stellar spirits. What you're proposing is like saying Erza could be a dragon slayer(which is highly doubtful considering she already has her own type of magic that she uses), since she was also an orphan.

And while we don't know for sure why the dragons wanted them, we can make a very good guess that they wanted them in order to defeat Zeref, since it was the dragons who originally defeated him.

Ok, yes they did raise humans. But that was most likely in order for them to defeat Zeref when he reappears again. They were doing what they needed to in order to raise efficient and strong warriors. In which case, they would do whatever was needed in order to make sure each dragon slayer was emotionally and physically prepared, which might require them to be very nice. Igneel doesn't even seem fond of other dragons so what makes you think he would like humans?

He doesn't get referenced until chapter 166 in the manga so there is plenty of time.

They're probably just hedging in case the show doesn't go past 50 episodes.

If they won't get to him in the anime anyway there's little lost by omitting mentioning him in passing before. And if the show continues on it's hardly out of character for Fairy Tail to randomly add in a new character no one's ever mentioned before.

They did keep the "5 S class wizards" way back in one of the earlier episodes, but it could be interpreted as including Mira (as she was in the past) so it's consistent with or without Gildart's existence.

The anime is going through the introductory stages. It's most likely they haven't introduced the mystery mage you are talking about because anime writers felt like it didn't make sense to make such a big deal about him when he's not really in the guild.

The printed page is different from TV. The show has yet to fully introduce important aspects of the Fairy Tail universe. Making a big deal out the "Mystery Man" would be a distraction when we don't really need to know about him at the moment when the show's makers have barely gotten into the backstories of two main characters and have barely introduced Gajeel and the revelation that the dragons may have all disappeared at once..

They can easily explain the lack of references to him as a powerful member of Fairy Tail since he's not really a working mage. He left Fairy Tail for a personal quest that has taken a years. He's not on the active roster when these episodes are taking place.

Mashima tends to pull stuff out of his ass alot, so I'm sad the anime omitted one of the times he actually established something in advance. Other than this, the anime's actually been putting its plot-foreknowledge to good use by adding buildup for certain events the manga tried pulling off too suddenly (ex. the finger-salute; Lisana; Shadow Gear). The big test will be whether it can pull off the end of Luxus's arc convincingly, which the manga flunked.

^ I don't remember any of the aforementioned examples having a huge impact to the plot. Lisanna's been overrated for being Natsu's potential love interest, after all she was introduced dead and used to develop her siblings, when their time came. Shadow Gear was used to hype Gazille and also to establish the mood of the guild; even if some people aren't shown as much, they're still part of the guild as much as others. If each and everyone got their attention arcs, we'd have a second bleach here...what's the finger salute btw?

My point is a character's death/hurt has more impact if the reader can get to know them a little first. The anime improved this for Lisana and Shadow Gear by sticking the Dragon Egg special and the body-switch filler in between Galuna Island and Phantom Lord. (I still think the body-switch ep was terrible and messed up the plot continuity, but I could see what they were trying to do.)

Back to Lisana, she was already dead, so I think that Elfman's feelings of guilt were to be emphasized more than the pain of her loss.

I'm saying introducing token victims in advance works better than pulling them out on the spot. But that requires planning further ahead (or a suitable preestablished side-character), which Mashima often fails to do.

I liked episode 29 it was nice to see Fairytail rebuilding and getting back to the daily routine at least for the moment. Also, Natsu prying for info about Gajeel was a smart move of course it didnt really go anywhere except learning that all the dragons seemed to have disappeared on the same year in the same month on the same day.

Seeing Lucy's Independence from her father was also comforting. That was her weakness and with the help of her new family F.T. she was able to overcome it. She went face to face to her father and said outright if he ever tries something like that again she will declare him an enemy and she was dead serious from what i saw. This was something she needed to do to move on in her life and apparently she takes after her mother quite a bit, which is why i guess her father backed off and as she left we saw him smile. Nice clean up episode to all the fighting.

Lots of manga readers have told me there are some kick ass things coming so i cant wait. But im avoiding all manga spoiler in here.

I must have more Juvia stalking Gray moments that character bento was priceless.
