Mine would be ADV+RPG which is generally an RPG with visual novel elements. Personally, I prefer turn-based RPGs as opposed to the tactical ones which is way too time-consuming. When a battle takes over 30 minutes, I'd rather not play it.

3) Fighting - having been brought up by SFII, while I can't say I'm totally addicted to the genre anymore, I still play it from time to time if I feel like 'action' for the day

2) 4x - A dying genre, but still a blast to play, especially those in a fantasy setting. Favourite is Master of Magic.

1) RPGs - I collect them as my hobby. Absolute favourite is Tactics Ogre, followed by the Persona series.

Honorable mention goes to Frontier: Elite II. Loved its Newtonian physics engine, as its the only space trading game I've played that used that.

Fighting games. Always room for improvement and doesn't get boring. I still play Tekken 3, Darkstalkers, Fist of the North Star etc. Currently playing BlazBlue and KOF XII until Tekken 6 comes out.

1. turn based strategy, but with good storyline(FF Tactics, Tactics Ogre, Brigandine),
2 RPG with great story(Shadow Hearts, Suikoden I,II, III)
3. Historical strategy simulation game(ROTK, Nobunaga Ambition)

But I do agree that fighting and sports game is the only genre you won't get bored playing for a while(as long as you have someone playing against)

Let's see:

1. Shmups, basically from the top-down variety (danmaku shooters are a new love)
2. Metroidvanias
3. Basic 2D side-scrolling platformers
4. RPGs
5. Old-school FPS (like the first two Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, or the newer Serious Sam and Painkiller)
6. RTS (also biased to the "old-school" ones, so not those like Warhammer 40k, where you have to capture points, and stuff)

1. RPGs (Japanese mostly with anime inspired characters and most if not all others that Bioware creates)

2. Survival Horror (weather it only contains a bit or a lot of survival stuff it doesn't matter, I love it all from Silent Hill games to Resident Evil series)

3. Action adventure (Spider-man or Ninja Gaiden type of games)

4. Platformer (well not exactly but I added this only because of Mega Man X series as I'm a huge fan)

1. JRPG - Especially the Tales and Star Ocean series, aside from SO4 anyway (Exception: games like DQ with minimal story and a heavy emphasis on grinding. I won't play this type of game at all and it's likely my least favorite genre)

2. Strategy RPG - Games like Valkyria Chronicles or Fire Emblem. (Again, an exception for games like Disgaea and Phantom Brave, I refuse to grind in a single player game)

3. Action Adventure - Anything from Ninja Gaiden to sandbox-style games like GTA

4. FPS - Pretty much any but I prefer more tactical games as opposed to hectic action

5. Fighting - BlazBlue and Soul Calibur

I'll actually play anything aside from sports, racing, puzzle, or single-player grinding rpgs though.

While I play everything I'll have to say Survival Horror is my favourite by far, everything else has no real set order. RPGs, Beat 'em ups, Strategy, FPS... I play everything, it just depends more on how good the game is rather than genre.

Survival Horrors should be in style of Silent Hills, atmosphere over lame jump-scares (which were sadly introduced in Homecoming, but then again it wasn't by Team Silent).
