Let's see, I'm not a fan of Campione and DxD, but I think they are tons better! In this show, everything is a plot convenience to help the protag get his harem! Campione? Oh look, Godou just so happens to be a Campione, with no explanation! Oh he's magic resistant, so info has to be fed to him through kissing! Convenient way to put in kissing scenes! And I love Highschool DxD. A lot. However do not start going on about plot device here and bring that up as well. Wanna count the ways the plot in DxD is contrived?

Issei dies, but he just so happens to be the inheritor of the boosted gear, which draws Rias' attention and causes her to revive him. How did he come to have the boosted gear? Seemingly at random.

And possessors of that power just so happen to attract women like crazy for no reason other than that possessors have had the power to attract women. What a way to explain away just how ridiculously easily Issei adds girls into his harem. Seriously. There's all the girls in the main cast, plus Kunou, Le Fay, maybe Kuroka but probably not really, and even Ophis. He's even got fangirls in Sona's group! They all somehow happen to gather around him for inexplicable reason.

And all the so, so many ways that Issei has random powerups or is saved by the power of oppai aka PLOT DEMANDS IT. Let's go through some of the biggest examples:

Issei RANDOMLY OUT OF THE BLUE summons the god of oppai, who blesses Issei with the plot device power of MASSIVE DAMAGE but only one use.

or,

Spoiler for LN volume 9:

Somehow squeezing Rias' nipples gives Issei a massive powerup and gives him triana mode. How is that remotely logical? Dunno, it's OPPAI!

and then there's

Spoiler for LN volume 12:

Issei is totalled by the poison but Great Red JUST SO HAPPENS TO SHOW UP TO SAVE THE DAY!! Why was he there? Why did he choose to save Issei? Who knows, sheer random but the plot demands that Issei keep living so here he is! And then Great Red fuses with Issei on sheer whim, just long enough to defeat that large monster, and then leaves on a whim. Wut?!

That's not counting all the ways Issei and gang are randomly saved by the super-powered side character that just so happens to show up conveniently at the right time.

Two, perhaps more instances of where the enemy's super-powered artifact weapon of almighty power just stops working all of a sudden cause it just happens to start liking the other guy more

So to sum it all up, you are perfectly entitled to criticize Date A Live in various ways, but plot contrivance is NOT one of the valid ways. Not when ALL of Shidou's secret abilities have an explanation behind them. And not by bringing up Campione and Dxd as counterexamples. You and all the other detractors of this show that I'm reading here on this thread recently seem to hate this show for reasons like, "useless MC" or "too focused on girls" etc, etc. There are valid aspects to those criticisms. Shidou has a giant clue barrier shielding him from the charms of all the girls. Yes, he saves girls and advances plot with the power of HEART-WARMING SPEECH OF SHOUNEN POWER. But so many, SO MANY male protagonists in all sorts of anime and manga have the same flaws. There are those who do nothing but women somehow flock to them anyway, but at least Shidou DIES for his convictions. Sure he got back up, but he didn't know that he could.

All of you are already hell-bent on dropping this show, and are just fishing for reasons to justify a decision you've already made and committed to stand by. You are perfectly welcome to your own judgement, but don't even try to justify it for reasons like plot convenience and then use examples of even greater plot convenience to support your argument. It makes you sound shallow, despite your attitude.

In most part, i largely agree with Larethian post there. Why? Because he's an anime-only viewer. He judged things entirely from what the show has shown into him thus far. Anime is anime, and LN is LN, they can be judged separately and since this is anime thread, i feel that many part of his post are valid. Criticizing his opinion back using future contents from LN, which only the LN readers are fully aware of, is just obnoxious

There has got to be a background on Shido that he does not remember. Because if I remember correctly on episode one after the encounter with Tohka, when he is unconscious on the ship you hear an unknown voice talking to him. "It's been a while" "At last we meet again" "I'm so happy" "But please, just wait a little longer" " I will never let you go, I will not make that mistake again". Which goes to prove at least there is something peculiar about him that will be revealed down the track.

So far I'm actually enjoying this series , I don't quite understand why some people are having trouble enjoying it >.>

Why waste your time on drama when you can just.... *drumrolls* not watch it. Nobody is forcing anybody to watch anything.

But do continue, it's funny to read comments and if it helps people *vent* their anger in a *non-violent way* GREAT!

FFF made a mistake in their subbing of ep 3's OP speech. They pretty much almost copied their earlier episode lines and pasted again, but episode 3's little blurb talks about whether Tohka's presence will be combated with violence, or through food, and whether Shidou's wallet will be able to meet that challenge.

People have a certain perception in a show and they have certain complaints to make about a big chunk of everything they have seen up to any given point and they would like to be able to do so freely and lightheartedly on an internet forum. Some people do go to ridiculous lengths with their bashing, but some people also get upset too easily when anything bad is said about anime. Everything in this thread has been well in line so far as far as I can tell.

Oh, and it's not like this is a cheerleading thread where any negative comments is highly forbidden IMO

I would understand that if that's the case. However, seeing as this is only the 3RD EPISODE, I don't understand why people complain about plot-holes etc... I mean, 3rd episode, jesus mary and joseph! It's like reading a 670pgs. book and writing a review after the first 20 pages have been read.

*slow clap* nice one bro and i agree with everything you stated and like you i am a fan of campione and hsdxd but some errors to point out is that in hsdxd the girls dont just randomly gather around him they all love him for his willingness to put his life on the line for them no matter what it takes as is the same with godou although in hsdxd its stated more but im with you on this series. Its entire focus is to show that shidou's power can save the spirits from death or just destroying the world and to me thats an epic reason. This is a very plot driven story although it may not seem like it till later but everything revolves around shidou and how he comes up with different ways to save the world. So Hoorah for sticking up for HSDXD and Campione!

I think . . . the main problem here is the "three episodes rule" that some people come up with when watching a show, meaning that if the first three episode alone fail to grab their attentions (which i can say yes for this show), they'll most likely hate it and just leave it for good.

I thought the communication part, and the overall episode was good, but overall still can't get into the feel of this series, such as with Tohka appearing at the end of episode 2. I couldn't even bear to watch the ending after that conclusion.

Although I'm less bothered by Kotori this episode, I still feel that Shido should at least question her...

Overall, this episode was okay. 6-7/10, I guess?

EDIT: Favorite moment- 'I smell your gym clothes' 'Me too'
With advisors like those, no wonder. <_<
