Minami-ke: Okawari

I've just started Minami-ke, and I have to say I also like the art in the first season better. It captures the comedy nature of the series just right. The art in Okawari, on the other hand, feels like eroge Too clean and polished.

Based on preview, it seem to me that Haruka's design make her look a bit older , or you can say maturer than the original . Like she was 20+ with a husband and few children.
I don't like it through

Also, I don't like Kana's eyes on Okawari >_<

Still, i hope for the best.

Well, asread/Starchild have certainly raised a few moe/BL levels with this one, not to mention they've given more attention to our beloved traps Touma and Mako-chan. I hope people won't jump the gun too fast and call this a boring "second season", because this was only the first episode. I think they did their best to insert humor wherever possible, but the difference is kind of noticable. Now, if I were to call this a downgrade, I think there's enough visual fanservice to compensate for whatever's missing (that is if you dig fanservice); I was screaming like a baby during the OP (and you really do not wish to hear a grown man screaming "moee~" the way I did ^^; ). Still, if ~okawari~ doesn't pick up some pace in the comedy department, I will have problems viewing this side of the project as anything but an "extra". Extra fanservice is always good the way they handled it, it's just not something to make the title memorable.

I'll be praying for some epic Hosaka scenes in the upcoming episodes (this one had none). Kentou wo inoru!

P.S.: No, this isn't a rehash of past events, no, Kana doesn't appear to be the youngest, no, it wasn't animated by SHAFT, and no, it doesn't suck!

Not as bad as I thought it would be, but it still has a ways to go before it can live up to its predecessor.

The new look definitely takes some getting used to. Mako-chan doesn't look quite as trap-tastic as he did before, Chiaki seems to go back and forth from kid-sized to adult, and the facial distortions are less intimidating. Kana is still spunky as ever though, in fact she seems even more animated this time around.

Some decent humor here and there like the ping pong scene, though I hope Sensei and Ninomiya-kun somehow make a return. The fanservice was noticeably amped up, though maybe it was only because this was a hot springs episode...speaking of which, how many baths do those girls need to take

I'll be optimistic for now, but if Hosaka isn't as crazy and delusional as he was in the first season, then I'll start throwing stones...

The first episode of Okawari wasn't exactly what i was expecting, but it had great moments, especially the second half with the onsen.

Spoiler for some thoughts on episode 01:

For a second, i thought the opening was made by SHAFT (it was so random), though the ending wasn't particularly good, but plain (saving budget perhaps). I'm not very sure, but they seem to have used some soundtracks from the first season if my ears serve me well. Oji-san had an unusual relevant role besides being ignored by his own family. Fujioka’s misunderstanding and Mako-chan/Touma’s uncomfortable situation were probably the highlight of this episode.

Chiaki-sama has a new look with a gradient hair plus the hair bud moves more than usual. > . <

It was very enjoyable for a first episode with a little boost in animation plus not approaching the show with too much fan-service **cough** Rosario + Vampire **cough**. Anyway, it seems promising, but it is far from being perfect. It is quite noticeable that a new Studio is doing Okawari, but not to the point of completely straying away from the ‘winning formula’ of the first season. I’m definitely looking forward to the next episode, especially some subs since I didn’t get most of the dialogue.

Well, Kana had 1/2 year to get her boobs upgraded abit. As we cna see from the shot above.

Now Fujioka is the enemy of male. I swear I must had heard "Kono lucky-yaro. Shine."[Die/Go to hell, you luck bastard!] war cry from Japan.

Hosaka got his muscle built after the switch over. Increased his usually "Komochiwarui" power to many folds.

Mako-chan got even more kawaii factor. He is the most successful trap character I had ever seen.

Haruka's bokeboke character[can't even read a map properly, I'd call it lovely side] had increased a little, in order to balance with her banchou side character.[punish Kana for suggesting her doing kakushige(?), return from showing her hatsugashi side in front of Touma and Mako-chan.]

Takeru-ojisan yet got dumped by her girl friend. Just keep him away from things that create danger like driving while having Kana poking his scar. Aside from that, he is quite an handsome guy.

Touma, like Mako-chan, she must have a hard way returning from reverse trap.

Poor Uchida being the second Keiko, who always got fool around(mistreated) by Kana.

Still watching episode 1 of MKO...looks a bit different than the original MK...Kana's body figure looks so manly...Chiaki seems a bit more mature and violent? i think compared to Chiaki in MK...

The difference between MK and MKO is exactly just like Negima and Negima?!...the feeling that i get when watching MKO is totally different.Everything look so serious to me.....

This kind of OP is totally weird i must say.Looks more like an emotional anime type of OP,or a battle/fighting anime type of OP.The song is okay to me,but the way they make the OP.....it just doesn't fit the series's genre perfectly.

The new OP is indeed weird, as others before me have pointed out. But for some reason, I find myself drawn to these types of openings that verge on symbolic territory. The music's not bad either.

Fujioka falling, Fujioka the bear flying, and...Hosaka being Hosaka. I'm ready for another season.

Over all I found the first episode to be decent all things considered. The designs aren't bad, they're just different. At least that's how I feel. In any case my only complaint is they had to use that boring style of ending animation that some shows use... In any case I'll be re-watching this when the time comes and probably check out a bit more and perhaps all of it.

the new op kinda reminds me of genshiken 2's op, both in sound and visuals...
seeing haruka's flotation devices was really weird...
they seem to be using the bgm of mk 1 and the additional bgm were also nice to hear...
overall not a bad first ep, though the animation could have been improved...

I also noticed Chiaki's ahoge moves around a lot more, too.

I'm not abandoning ship yet, but Okawari better really impress me next week and the week after...

just watched the first episode of the second season and I am happy with it.

The writers are doing a good job keeping the comedy in par with the first season. This is not a retelling but a continuation, as we pick up where the first season left. The animation is different and you can tell these animators know how to draw male body very well, they give our favorite crazy senpai a six pack in the opening.

They give Kana and Chiaki some masculine shoulders while in the onsen and Kana benefits from some boost in the breasts size department this season. Chiaki Hige is not as cute as the one from the previous season, it is kind of too simple. Haruka also got a little upgrade in the chest.

The girls' uncle also benefit from the animators ability to draw males very well, which is not a good thing because even though he is supposed to be a loser, he doesn't look it, he did look like a loser in the first season.

OP - Strange, but Genshiken's was weird too, so this didn't really bother me past the first 10 seconds. Strange movements at the beginning though.
ED - Song is decent, animation is really boring.
