There are exceptions both ways. Fujiwara clearly uses an alias, despite being a time traveler. Likewise, if you're going to tell me that Kyon can't be classified as one after the events of Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody, Disappearance and the prologue of Intrigues, there's clearly a difference in opinion of what it takes to be considered a "time traveler."

We don't know Fujiwara's real name yet. When we do, it will probably be a full name.

And no, Kyon isn't a time traveler. He lacks the ability to travel through time himself. He has always had some help in this manner.

Also, the original Japanese word is "miraijin", or "future person", of which Kyon is clearly not.

Kyon is simply an physically ordinary human who is always caught up in the middle of everything.

There is some evidence that their various devices are actually a part of their bodies, thus making them almost the same things as the humanoid interfaces.

Also, the author has stated that he will reveal Kyon's real name eventually, and that it will not be a last-minute thing... probably the best proof that Vol. 10 won't end the series.

Again, not the same thing. "Right now" being the operative words. He's not a "time traveler", in the sense of the organization of time travelers, but he is time traveling. If that makes sense at all.

No point, just something to breakup all the spoilers. I can imagine Kyon doing that one day when Haruhi is down. He'd get a light laugh out of it and then get her upset at him for a few minutes. At least she wouldn't be depressed. Also would lead into her taking him on a private search for sliders.

Aren't we getting sliders in Vol. 10? The split realities and the mysterious girl seems to suggest that.

It wasn't. However, the author appears to use a given naming convention for characters. Characters that are "special" in some way are given full names, while characters that are not are usually only given one name, a nickname, or a title.

In the case of Nakagawa, his single name foreshadowed the loss of his powers. Maybe the same will happen to Sasaki?

There are exceptions, to be sure, (Miyoko Yoshimura) but why else would Mori have been given a full name when Arakawa was not?

In addition, Koizumi identifies himself and Mori as part of the "inner sanctum", and makes no reference to the Tamaru brothers and Arakawa at that point.

I think we can be pretty certain that she's an esper.

Thats a pretty good point...haven't thought about that.

So that means Arakawa could be in the same position that Nakagawa was...somewhat a half esper but can be counted as a special person with powers.
As for now though, we can still call Kyon a regular human...but since this is just his nickname and his real name hasn't been mentioned yet, does that mean he could have dormant powers that haven't been awakened yet?
Taniguchi, Kunnikida, Tsuruya...they all have names with no last names...does the same imply to them as well? Regular humans with some kind of power that makes them special in some way, just like Nakagawa.

I don't think it was ever mentioned (maybe in the novels) but whats a Slider anyways?

So its like a person from another dimension...lets see...its sounds a bit similar to "time traveler", but I guess if you're going to be considered a "slider", no matter what time plane you travel to, you'll always stay at the same age as you were from before.

Or maybe its a person that can use their powers to the fullest when they're not in closed space...different from what Nagato does with her spell chants.

I might have described it wrong... any connection a "slider" would have to a time traveler is minimal... or given how Mikuru described time travel, I suppose the similarities would be... argh... this is why I hate time travel

Ok, maybe a time paradox.

For example, if Future Trunks met Young Trunks in any of the DBZ episodes, that would be considered as Future Trunks being a slider...since he is from a different time plane.

Err...my head is starting to hurt...I wish Vol.10 was published already...I really want to know what makes a Slider...a Slider!
