As a suggestion… you might want to take this kind of "chit-chat" to PM (private message). You can get more done that way and people don't have to scroll through all this just to find tutorials. Not that you can't chat it up (why else are we here?), but when it become more of a two-way converstaion...well...you know.

Cheers.

The top menu bar has a button called Layer. Click that and scroll down to Layer Style. Then click the Stroke button in the Layer Style menu.

OK .. here's a simple sig with the BG are made with filters .. Once you are done you get something like this ...
. This was done with *nearly* similar technique ..

I'll be using this particular image to start with

make a new sig document .. mine would be 375 x 120 .. copy your image to the new document and resize them
Spoiler:

Duplicate the image and bring the original on top and hide it (click the eye next to the layer in the layer window)
Spoiler:

Now go to filter->blur->motion blur .. Select angle as 45 and distance as you feel like it ... Duplicate the layer and move them around so the cover the whole document ... Now, merge all visible layer (Ctrl+Shift+E) .
Spoiler:

Go to filter->brush strokes->accented edges and play with the option a bit and you get something like this
Spoiler:

Unhide the original image and duplicate it .. move the original on top and then click on the duplicate layer in the layer window . you be smudging the duplicate NOT the original ... the smudge tool is here
Spoiler:

Select a good brush size then smudge the layer outward .. moving from the image to away from it ... urm ... would you understand it with picture instead?
Spoiler:

Nearly done .. duplicate the original image once again. on duplicate layer go to filter->blur->gaussian blur. Select a low radius [ 0.8 - 1.5] work best ... then the layer blending mode set to softlight
Spoiler:

And all that left is a border and your name ... Final result different fdrom the top one eh? Why you might asked? Because I use the accented edge filter in step (4) .. see the different? You can change one filter there and get a very different result
Spoiler:

So there .. a simple BG using filters and smudge tool.. Dont be afraid to experiment with different filter.. you might have a very beautiful combination.

As always... I made no attempt to protect this tutorial from thief .. but dont let me caught you promoting this tutorial on other site as your own .. Shame on you if you steal this one .. Hope you understand this one ^-^ ..Ask away if you wish

Hey there! I was wondering if anyone knows where i can get a photoshop tutorial for the "3-D" tool in the effects column of Illustrator(I dont know if it exist before CS). I need a tutorial that tells me how to use that specific tool but everything I have found only tells me how to create that look using other ways. Thanks

This tutorial was done in Photoshop.

First of all, select the Rounded Rectangle Tool. Up at the top, be sure to have clicked the Paths button. This step is easy to miss and very important. The Radius box allows you to change how curved you want your edges to be. Play around with different values in that box to get different results.

Spoiler for Step 1:
when i save iy little white sorners pop up.....why? what am i doing wrong?

Also, there are only 2 filetypes that save transparency. Make sure to choose either .gif or .png. If you're using Save For Web, it should have an option to choose whether you want transparency or not.

You don't have any of those tools? I'm pretty sure they were on that version... but I'm not sure.

Alright guys, here you go:

Yuiichi's Brush Background Tutorial:

Made with: Photoshop

For now, I won't include any pictures. I might update in a few hours with some

What you want to start off with is: An image without a background and a canvas big enough for your background.

Note: my sigs are usually 370x160, just to give you a background size idea.

To get your image to have no background, refer to this or this tutorial by KiNa and Dragonwingz.

Reminder: Before you start, make sure that you have 3 layers: one for the background, one for brushing, and one for the character.

EDIT! KiNa reminded me! You should have 3 layers. For the background, you probably want a colour that matches your character (such as a midtone hair colour). The brushing layer goes on top of this one and blends nicely if you use the hair colours.

What I do first is select the Brush tool, and then select the brush I want from the drop down menu. The brush I choose is going to also be part of the brush set I will use for the entire sig. For colour, select the lightest colour in the characters hair. In sigs, hair is usually one thing that always is there, so you'll never have problems with colour scheme.

Now, just experiment with those brushes! Go wild! BUT, don't over do it yet.

Once you are satisfied with your result from that colour and brush, try out another brush with that colour. If the background seems a bit boring, never fear! Get a new colour (a darker one from the characters hair) and give it a whir.

My key is: never use too much of one colour and brush. It's usually one or two clicks per brush with one colour, and then I either switch brushes or colours.

Thats all there is to it! For more varried results, try different brush sets together - sometimes you'll come up with nice results!

Experiment. Thats what brushing is all about!
