Perhaps a combination of China/Mongolia and Russia?

Grim but realistic.

They are on the move.

I've gotten farther on my side project for the Earth-Gamilas War of 2191-2199. I have at least the start of the battleships, cruisers, and destroyers for five Human regional powers and some of the remains of the Martian fleet that was taken as prizes following the Interplanetary Wars. I based a lot of this on historical ship construction between 1910 and 1935 with a modification of using the battleships constructed from 1936 to 1941 as the war built Earth capital ships.

The five powers are:

European Union
United States of the Americas
Far Eastern Region
Middle Eastern Region
Lunar Colony

The first three are the ones that build ships for the most part. The Middle Eastern Region has ships built for it and purchases ships. The Lunar Colony purchases ships and is the keeper of the captured Martian built ships.

The European Union and the United States of the Americas have the larger fleets.

The Europeans are a mix of British, French, Italian, German, Russian, and Spanish designs and names. They tend for speed and diverse types of ships over solid numbers.

The Americans are a mix of the United States of America, Mexico, Canada, Chile, Brazil, and Argentina for the most part when it comes to names. The Americans prefer bulk and firepower over speed for most ship types. They have fewer cruisers than are needed and have a gigantic number of obsolete destroyers from the Interplanetary Wars. Their battleships are large, slow, and heavily armed.

The Far Eastern Region as a smaller fleet (using the Washington Treaty pattern as a guide). Their ships tend to be fast, and well armed, but not as large. Their cruisers tend to lack defensive systems, as they mount those on their larger destroyers instead. The Far East Region tends to focus on a large number of one or two designs of each type rather than many different types.

The Middle Eastern Region tends to have slower, older ships. Mostly American style ships with some Far Eastern cruiser and some European destroyer leaders.

The Lunar Colony has some older European ship as well as some American destroyers. They also have a number of Martian ships which tend to be fast and heavily armed forwards instead of on the broadside like the other fleets.

Nicely thought out.

So how do Gamilas ranks work? In the character sheets it lists Ryle Getto (Domel's blonde officer) as a Major yet in the show the captain of the carrier refers to him as Rear Brigadier. One thing I've noticed is that they use army ranks for their navy.

Perhaps he got a promotion? The rank translations had problems because some Japanese ranks sound the same as other ranks if one isn't listening closely. There was confusion when people were translating the ranks of Yamato's crew due to misunderstanding between different services.

The Gamilas in translation tend to have army ranks as Dommel's fleet tends to be called the Sixth Astro Armored Division or Corps. Harkening back to Rommel's Seventh Panzer Division.

The design styling of the Earth fleet is based off zenseava's works from his 2014 calendar and his version of Project Izumo (I decided to backtrack it even farther to if it has been designed as a warship (Kii) to fight Gamilas, then redesigned as the Izumo escape ship, then redesigned again as Yamato)

For the Earth fleets I have them at the start of the war with 50 battleships, 153 cruisers of all sizes, and 356 destroyers. Of the destroyers only 123 have guns that can be considered even marginally useful against the Gamilas. And of that only 69 of them have more than one gun battery of a useful type.

The Gamilas fleet increased in the first year to around 200 ships with maybe another 100 being able to be called upon from other commands over the course of the 8 years. Most of that is destroyers, with maybe five to six dozen cruisers of all types. Also four carriers and a battleship.

Earth builds ships during the war, but only for the first five years normally, and the sixth year in several underground shipyards. By 2197 only a few ships could be built and most of the remaining yards are used to repair or refit damaged ship that made it home. I intend for some of the ships built just before or during the war to harken to the ships built in the original version of the Earth's 2201 fleet. The European's battleship design provides elements for the future standard Earth battleship and the Andromeda. The American assault destroyer would be the precursor to the 2201 era destroyers and frigates as well as the larger cruiser types. The Far Eastern region battleship design would eventually be converted into Yamato. (These make sense with the naming conventions in the Star Blazers Fleet Battle System game).

(After the first of the new European battleship enters service in 2195 the Gamilas target the Earth's shipyards for destruction. Ships that had been launched but not completed were being worked on in underground yards. These continued to be completed until the end of 2196 when the Gamilas launch as massive attack of Giant Missile specifically to crack the Earth's surface over the known underground shipyards. One yard, near Japan, was saved by the nearly completed Far Eastern Region's battlecarrier Kii. It destroyed the Giant Missile, but at the cost of itself. This allowed it unfinished sister ship to be taken in hand to be coverted for Project Izumo in 2197. Which was then taken in hand again when the Iscandarian arrived, into Project Yamato. (or at least that's how I'd spin it). The "battlecarrier" design was intended to take the then designing Cosmo Zero into battle near Pluto in numbers. The brass having noticed that that Cosmo Falcon defense force pilots had been very useful against the Gamilas around Mars, Luna, and Earth.)

The Earth fleets use mostly older beam weapons and pulse lasers. The small pulse lasers on the old American destroyers can barely scratch the paint off a Gamilas destroyer if they get a lucky hit. However the Interplanetary Wars with Mars did result in some technical improvements that would be added to some of the older ships and installed on the newer ships. Positron shock cannons were developed before the Gamilas arrived, but due to the power needed were only installed in bow mounts on cruisers and battleships (only one destroyer type had a shock cannon, and that was the Martian frigates, which were nearly light cruisers in size). In addition to this, the Martians had developled the fusion shell and build some ships late in the war with long barrels to fire them. These shells are less effective than the ones that would be used a decade later on Yamato, but when they could penetrate the Gamilas armor, they did a fair amount of damage. More so that the beam weapons normally could. Newer ships as well as those designed at the end of the Interplanetary wars tended to have long barrels that could fire live ammo. Not all ships built after that war did this as it was expensive, and sometimes they needed numbers more that firing shells. Fusion shells were generally not put on destroyers. Only the French styled large destroyer leaders had fusion shells on their light guns. The other exception is a debatable one...depending on how you look at it. Yukikaze's advanced torpedoes. They are suppose to be torpeodes (but in the game system I can't make that work correctly so I made them Yamato's main battery sized fusion shells. It works out to be about the same in game terms). A late war experiment was the installation of turreted position shock cannons on a European cruiser and the new American battleships. These turreted shock cannons (the size of Yamato's secondary battery or smaller) were effective against Gamilas armor, but still required a large amount of energy to fire, meaning the turrets would have to switch to their improved fusion shells between shock cannon blasts. The Far Eastern Region eventually also converted their battleship design to use turreted positron shock cannons of an even larger design, but they only became viable after the introduction of the wave motion engine.

The European cruiser I intend to have converted with a shock cannon turret is named for the historical British one that had an experimental turret installed on it in the 1930s....Enterprise.

That's most of the Gamilas show/named.

As for the calendar, I don't remember if it came up. There was a pivix set that had Gamilas language translations.

Inspired by one of Zenseava's pics, I wrote up a 1000+ word blurb about an OC Gamilon carrier. The actual ship I designed doesn't look exactly like it, but it's a good general direction.

Dekubuz-class light carrier
Length - 312 m
Armament
3 330mm triple-mount positron beam turrets
4 280mm triple-mount positron cannons
4 quad-mount point laser defense guns
8 torpedo tubes
Flight complement
24 DWG262 Czvarke fighters

When one thinks of Gamilon carriers, they think of the elegant Guipellon-class multi-deck carrier, the powerful Gelvades-class battlecarrier, or even the venerable Zaltzi-designed Polmeria-class assault carrier. However, many forget one undeservedly obscure design that has arguably had a great effect on carrier doctrine within the Gamilas Military. These carriers were the Dekubuz-class.

When faced with the even the latest iteration of a Dekubuz, many people’s first thought would be that it was an elaborate joke. Indeed, Dekubuz’s distinctive double-hull has left a mark on many an unfortunate captain and pilot, some even outright denying that they have ever served or commanded one. Upon seeing a Dekubuz, one famous Gamilon ace was reported to have stated, “I’d rather get shot down than land on that ugly thing.” However the Dekubuz is a prime example of the age-old adage: “Don’t judge the man for his smile.”

The Dekubuz was conceived through desperation and necessity. In 90 DY, a massive blitz by Gatlantis forces resulted in many Gamilas bases and planets being cut-off from the main Gamilon fleet. One such base was the Folge 297 Forward Shipyard. Stranded in enemy territory with no supplies, the shipyard’s situation was further put in dire stakes when a Gatlantis probing raid destroyed all of the remaining carriers stationed there. Fortunately, most of the shipyard’s air wing remained intact, however the commander, Colonel Kubuz Zypria, was left with the problem of aircraft without an aircraft carrier. Without carriers, the planes would have to remain close to the shipyard and unable to support the Gamilon ships protecting the neighboring system of Folge 296.

The solution came when Kubuz overheard a conversation between shipyard workers over having to combine the parts of two damaged Destroia-class heavy cruisers to create a single working one. He was reported to have immediately rushed to his office and demanded his second-in-command, Major Kaczke Gubrina, to bring him “fifty pages of paper, my finest pen, a line to the chief engineer and foreman, and the strongest tea on base.”

This new carrier would consist of two Destroias joined together. The fin and positron cannon bulge on the starboard side of one and the portside of the other as well as the dorsal turrets would be removed. The cruisers would then be placed beside each other and welded together on the bare side. Along the top, the flight deck would be placed extending from the edge of the stern to thirty meters behind the bow. To strengthen the connection and provide easy access between the two hulls, several corridors were constructed joining the two ships, with the most important one near the engine compartments. For anti-aircraft firepower, several quad-mount laser point defense turrets from a damaged-beyond-repair Gaiderol-class battleship were installed near the bridges. The aircraft would be externally stored to the sides of the runway.

The result of five hours of planning was a horrifying chimera of a ship. Allegedly the dock foreman, when given the order to construct one of these improvised carriers, said that he would do it, but his men require one hundred gallons of alcohol once they were done. When confronted, the parties in question denied said allegations, however one might note that a shipment of wine was listed as “lost” the day of the completion of the first carrier.

The first three of these improvised carriers were completed just before perimeter defenses reported a Gatlantean attack force headed toward Folge 296. Hasitly loading the fighters, the carriers, along with a small escort force led by Gubrina, warped to Folge 296.

With the raid on the Gamilon carriers, the Gatlanteans were not expecting much aircraft, and thus sent a carrier-heavy flotilla to assault the seemingly hapless planet. Imagine their shock when a squadron of Cvzarke fighters and two squadrons of Drucilla torpedo bombers attacked! The surprise attack resulted in the destruction of two of the eight Gatlantean carriers with an additional three carriers damaged. The Gamilon aircraft received minimal damage and retreated before the Gatlanteans could mount an effective defense.

Once all the fighters were loaded, Gubrina ordered his squadron to quickly relocate to opposite side of the Gatlanteans, the carriers able to keep pace with the cruisers and destroyers. Using similar tactics, the outnumbered Gamilons were able to defeat the much larger Gatlantean force with few losses. With the last Gatlantean ship routed, the carriers and their accompaniment returned home victorious. It was clear that the improvised ships were a success.

Kubuz called for the construction of an additional nine carriers, this time with the bridge of the portside hull removed, allowing for the addition of four more planes to the carrier’s complement.

With these carriers and the “rapid carrier strike” tactics, Kubuz was able to defend Folge 296 and Folge 297 for one entire season until the Gamilon fleet lead by then Colonel Elk Domel was able to penetrate the Gatlantis perimeter and relieve Kubuz’s exhausted fleet. When Domel’s second-in-command Major Hildern learned about the makeshift carriers, he said, “No wonder you survived, the Gatlanteans were too busy laughing at these ugly things to fight back!”

Nonetheless, once news of the valiant stand by Kubuz and his cobbled-together carriers reached the Gamilon High Command, Dessler was so impressed that he called for an official design committee to truly make the double-hulled carriers a part of the Gamilon fleet.

The new light carrier design, dubbed the Dekubuz in honor of its designer, retained the overall aesthetic of the original makeshift carriers. The design was elongated to 310 meters, and the double-hull bow was streamlined. The distinctive Gamilon “eye” was moved backwards, and the fins were made stubbier. The side bridge was replaced by a hanger that covered the flight deck from the midpoint to a fourth of the way to the stern. The bridge, along with six quad-mounted laser point defense turrets, was placed on top of this hanger.

Instead of haphazard welding and makeshift corridors, the two hulls merged into a single hull a third of the way behind the bow. Here an internal hanger bay was added with an elevator to the flight deck, giving the loaded aircraft more protection. The propulsion still used two Destroia engines, however an additional three Kripitera-class destroyer engines were added to provide additional power and speed.

As for armament, the Dekubuz retained the ventral turrets and side positron cannon blisters. Later on the overhanging hanger would be extended to allow for an additional 330mm triple-mount positron beam turret.

A total of around 500 Dekubuz-class light carriers were produced. Despite misgivings about its aesthetic, fleet commanders quickly incorporated the carrier and the tactics devised by Gubrina into their doctrine and used them to devastating effect. While the introduction of the Polmeria-class assault carrier in 98 DY saw the phasing out of the Dekubuz in the majority of the Gamilon fleet, many commanders on the fringes of Gamilon territory still find use for them. Gubrina’s tactics also remain in heavy use, the Polmeria proving a more than suitable replacement for the Dekubuz with its ability to rapidly launch its fighters and stealthy design.

In fact, many see the Dekubuz’s design live on in the recently introduced Gelvades-class battlecarrier. While the military has neither confirmed nor denied this rumor, it’s clear to any astute observer that both ships share similar features, from the double-hull bow to the location and design of the bridge and hangers. Kubuz’s ship lives on.

Zenseava has a new model he's showcasing.

For those of you who use models for table-top strategy gaming, his new design might be of interest.

Spoiler for Finished model images:

Here are images he provided that show how he built it.

Spoiler for Models used to create the above.:

Assuming that is still to scale, that is a big ship for Earth. Bigger than Yamato.

Speculation: Is this an Earth attempt to match the Gamilon battleship during the war? After the war, but before Yamato gets back?

Or is this just an Earth battleship that happens to be similar in shape to a Gamilon battleship? A ship from before the war (hense the styling similar to the Kongo type battleships of nearly 30 years before 2199).

Aside from the heavy secondary batteries, this design nearly matched was I had as a Valparaiso Type battleship (American styled though). But I'd based my larger ships (that would more match this one in length) on Zenseava's drawings of larger Earth ships (based on the Mutsu, Nelson, and Marlyland). So my Earth of this size have more guns on them typically. Not that that helps much, since most weapons barely scratch the Gamilon warships.

Zenseava says it is an upgraded version of this ship.

The Yukyu M-21933.
That ship is an Earth built ship that was based on Gamilas technology (recovered) during the war.
This new model is an upgraded version of that ship.
He didn't say when it got upgraded, but I think it is safe to assume it was after Yamato left for Iscandar.

http://lighthousezen.seesaa.net/article/78498633.html

Unless of course he just upgraded it for the new 2199 show, but he hasn't said yet so we don't know.

The old numbering system would place that as the third ship from 2193. It I remember correctly.

If memory serves, in the original Yamato the war with Gamilas started some 8 or 9 years prior to Yamato leaving Earth, yes?
That would put the start date at 2190 or 2191, so a ship from 2193 could conceivably be using captured Gamilas technology (or even be a rebuild Gamilas Shultz style battleship).

I suppose it is possible that some ships (damaged craft being repaired on Earth) didn't take place in the Pluto battle of 2199 that destroyed most of the Earth fleet. If other ships were in drydock for extensive repair, they may have survived.
I realize this is pure conjecture and speculation with no evidence to back it up, but I don't remember anything in the anime or published that dismisses that notion.

Just a thought.

Yamato 2199 sets First Contact with Gamilas at April 1, 2191.

I don't recall if the original Yamato had a similar date, though it is likely given that Kodai was still rather young when the planet bombs killed his family. Possibly earlier given the numbering pattern of M-218817 for Kodai's brother's ship and M-21721 for Okita's...though I don't recall the origin of those numbers. If they were Yamato or Star Blazer based. They remained around on both sides of the Pacific regardless.

Star Blazers set the time of first contact as somewhere in the mid-21st century, with the conflict being sporadic until the 2170s when Earth finally started to build ships based on Gamilon tech to use against them. The war went back and forth for decades until Deslock got ticked off enough to just wipe them out with Planet Bombs. Gamilon needed Earth to resettle and had their own Cosmo DNA system. They just couldn't afford to let Earth resist anymore. The Pluto Base started dropping Planet Bombs around 2193 and Earth Defense Forces spend much of the next five years trying to reach Pluto to take it out, finally failing in that one last campaign in 2199 that left only one ship to return from Pluto.

I can probably work Yukyu into the mix. The Far Eastern Region (in my version) started building new battleships later than the Europeans and Americans. Mostly because they focused on mass production of the Isokaze and Mursame types. The Isokaze being one of the newer modern destroyers while the Mursame was just cheap to build. I suppose an early victory (perhaps over Mars) could yield a Gamilas battleship to be towed in by Okita and rebuilt while the Far Eastern Region is tooling up for a new class of battlecarriers (I decided to use Zenseava's Izumo Project escape ship as the basis for the Far East's war built battleships, and tied that with the project to build the Cosmo Zero. Thus making their design a battlecarrier as it would carry a few squadrons of Comso Zero into battle away from Earth or Mars bases. That the Cosmo Zero project became hopelessly delayed was one problem. That the major shipyards were attacked is another. Kii was lost. Her eventual sister ship saved Earth...after a bunch of redesigns while still under construction.)

So I have a question about how Gamilas organizes their military branches.

The three main branches we saw were the Army, Navy, and Imperial Guard. I'm concerned with the first two.

The Army basically consists of all the green-colored uniforms and the orange/brown suits. They're commanded by generals and presumably make up most of the Gamilas forces we saw in the series.

The Navy's uniforms are blue with the suits colored green instead. Our only two examples are Admiral Dietz and Flakken and his crew.

My question is what's the difference between the Army and the Navy? The ships under Dietz's command don't seem to have any distinguishing characteristics from the Army ships.

Very interesting.
Thank you for that information.
Clearly the other ships could have survived (albeit badly damaged) and still be underground on Earth. Assuming the nations of Earth were still going along with Operation Izumo (or whatever other nations may have decided on) in case Yamato failed, it would make sense that any remaining ships (I would imagine only a handful) would be saved from the Battle of Pluto to be used for the evacuation of Earth.
Again, this is just my speculation based on my own observations.

I would guess that ships like the Zenseava's Mutsu, Nelson, and Maryland could have been set aside (even reported destroyed) to be used as evacuation ships. It would also explain why the Pluto fleet was comprised of such small craft (and old craft if we use the original ship numbering system [M21741 Kongo class, and the M21881 Yukikazi types]). If there were newer ships built (a small number of large craft) that were set aside to save humanity, that might make for an interesting story.

Spoiler for Zenseava calender showing Earth fleet of the Gamilas War:

As a side note, I look forward to seeing how your scenario all plays out in your strategy game.

Please let us know how it goes, I do enjoy your photos of the game and your explanations of the results.

Good question.
I can only guess that it must be divided based on the missions they perform.
Perhaps the Army is more for planetary assault and the Navy is more for ship-to-ship or fleet-to-fleet engagements?
Of course, that won't square well with General Domel being in charge of defense of the borders of Gamilas territory.

It could also be that the Army is subordinate to the Navy (like the US marines are to the US Navy).

Well we've not gotten to any pre-Yamato stuff on the table yet, but we did test some of the Comet Empire ships from 2199 recently.

So as requested, a battle report:

This was a test battle fought on May 9th to test out the new Yamato 2199: Ark of the Stars ("Odyssey of the Celestial Ark") versions of the Comet Empire ships.

This is written from the Comet Empire's point of view as that was the role I was playing and I didn't keep the sheets after the game was over, so I had to do this from memory.

Reaches of the Milky Way

It has been almost two years since the disgraceful death of Governor-General Dagarm. Prime Minister Invidia has begun sending out long range patrol groups towards the nearby galaxy in an effort to locate the Gamilon allied vessel that assisted with the destruction of Dagarm's Fleet.

This is the tale of one such group that found what they seek.

Deep Space Patrol Group 24 (Holgum Force)

1 Nazca-class Strike Carrier
1 Bringer of Victory-class Battleship
2 Lasceaux-class Assault Cruisers
6 Kukulkan-class Attack Destroyers

First Earth Deep Range Testing Squadron

1 Borodino-class Battleship (testbed UNCS Borodino BBY-02)
2 Hood-class Battlecruisers
3 Konigsberg-class Patrol Cruisers
3 Gearing-class Escort Destroyers
3 Airone-class Frigates

Seven turns and pictures here.
TL;DR…

Note that the Cometine battleship has not been modified yet as it was not in the new movie. The Earth ships are also mostly not modified, but are in their original versions from the 1978 second series. There are minor modifications. The destroyers have been refitted with more defensive systems as escorts (this is in the second rule book for Star Blazer Fleet Battle Systems) and the battleship has its main guns upgraded and additional sensor systems to improve fire control. This is a reason I labed her as a testbed.
