Holy god. How long has it been since the last episode? I had forsaken that series for good since that so-called 2 hour ending, which is just an excuse for a clip show. I had long thought the second movie was lost.
Chris Carter should never have let Fox persuade him to milk the franchise beyond oblivion. The show started going downhill from Season 6 after they moved to LA with Duchovny, and ought to have ended at Season 7. Instead Fox got Carter dragging on for another 2 seasons, and with the ridiculous "Supersoldiers" concept, it was clear Carter was running out of ideas. The killing off of the Lone Gunmen did it in for me, I think. (Current sci-fi series like "Lost" took heed of the X-Files' stumble towards its end and made sure to stick to a fixed beginning and ending (set to end in season 6 in 2010) before it outstayed it welcome with fans. ) Anyway, that's all the bad stuff about the show out of the way. Though not exactly a full "X-Phile", the X-Files will always have a special place in my heart. Long before I had fallen for anime, the X-Files had been my weekly dosage of escapism. (And may or may not contribute to my open-minded agnostic attitude to all things paranormal. ) Now that it's resurfaced, perhaps Carter can put a decent end to a show that defined the series of the last decade. (Though Carter and Duchovny both say it's got nothing to do with the Mytharc. ) |

Mulder and Scully are both in it, obviously. As for other characters Im not sure since Ive been kinda staying away from spoilers, plot drops and who's gonna be in it. Knowing the X Files and there way for always bringing back dead characters I wouldnt be surprised to see several ones that didnt make it out of the series alive

Another X-Files fan here I can't wait. I actually went to NY to see Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz talk about the movie. Of course they didn't give anything away but it was still great to be surrounded by so many excited fans.
Not much has been given about the story except it will be scary and a stand alone so no myth arc or aliens. However it will take place in the present day so the characters will have lived their lives these past 6 years. |

So, the movie has opened, and no one talks about it? No wonder one reviewer called I Want To Believe the anti-Dark Knight for its relative lack of publicity.
I was pleasantly surprised. By stripping away the outlandish UFO conspiracies that plagued the original series and the first movie, and by focusing on a more down-to-earth story, I Want To Believe actually turned out to be a rather effective study on morality, just like The Dark Knight. I've read a few reviews, and found myself agreeing most closely with Robert Ebert's opinion: Quote:
What I like most, however, is the understated way in which the movie shows how Mulder and Scully have got on over the last six years. It's almost Japanese — we're thrown in media res, with plenty of clues to tell us that Mulder and Scully are now very much a couple, and have been getting on fine while we weren't looking. It's like reuniting with old friends and not noticing that many years have passed since we've last met. A lot has changed, but the friendship remains. |

I didn't enjoy it that much. I'm not really an X-Phile but I never missed a chance to watch X-Files when it was on Space. Only one cameo from the show, and Xzibit as some FBI agent, lame.
I didn't really like the plot too much, in my opinion it should have been more extraterrestrial in nature. This one felt like one of those murder/mystery movies. Maybe I should check out X-Files: Fight The Future because I only remember watching 30 minutes of that.

If they were going to make a movie about this, in my opinion they should have done it when the series was still popular/in its prime, only about one out of five people these days remember it/know what it is. Waiting 6 years, after the series went off the air to make a movie is a bit stupid.

Anyways, I just saw it today. It was okay I guess. It felt even more like an extended episode than the first movie. The dialogue was fairly weak throughout, the characters are depressingly older, and there weren't any fun SF elements. It was pretty hilarious when the camera focused on a picture of Bush and the eerie X-Files theme played (though I'm not sure what exactly I was supposed to infer from that, lol) The whole "belief" theme was pretty lame. (which I guess is to be expected when you try to be as religiously vague as possible) |

This movie was delibrately designed for events well after the series ended. These are character that, as the tagline states, "Want to Beleive", but do not feel that there is anything worth believing in this post-9/11 world. They are older, more experienced, and more cynical, so, as the events of the movie unfold, they must confront their own cynicism in order to solve their new mystery and possibly recover their "Belief". |
