I'm not quite sure what you mean by Matsuri not having any recollection since she does seem to remember the past, but the answer to your second question is in the episode. Aono killed herself because she didn't want to live in a world without Yorito (at least that's what she said when Matsuri brought her back). It's implied that Yorito is something much more than just a younger brother to her, even though she insists on calling him a younger brother when she and Matsuri first meet again.

There is also this possibility of him arriving at the cave (if it is true) AFTER what actually happened (the revival of Aono), but with Matsuri missing or something.

just watched the RAW ~ crap my brain hurts >.<

my hypothesis ~
the scene was actually set back not a few years but possible somewhere up to 50 years ~ so right now aono is a girl from the past living in the future (just like matrusi) while the yorito of that time has already died...the present yorito is a kind of reincarnation of the past ~ why do i not say that matsuri revived him aswell? ~

1) he died and aono comfirmed that by crying over the fact she cannot live without yorito anymore when matsuri revived her (near the end) ~

2) yorito isnt affected by sunlight...

3) yorito has no memories of the past ~ where as aono and matsuri does...

also at the start of this ep we saw yorito in some strange clothes as well ~



and when matsuri came up from behind yorito stated again that he will take her under the sky ~ knowing that fact that she is a "vampire" ~ this again supports the fact that the current yorito isnt the past yorito cause it was his first time meeting matsuri in the present ~ and also the fact that his present self said the same thing as his past self it does show history repeating itself ~

as for what happened all i can say is that yorito must have died in some incident concerning matsuri ~ aono commits suicide and matsuri brings her back to life intending to has her to join...but aono is no happy and leaves ~ this then brings up to the current year...

ofc my hypothesis contains tonnes of plotholes like:

how did the current aono became yorito's onee san? infact how did she find her if she is someone 50 years in the past?

i still doubt a bit that the current yorito could be a reincarnation but for now that seems to be most logical ~ also for the current aono to tell matsuri so strongly that yorito is her little brother has to mean something...it seemed awkward like she is trying to prove something that should be fact...

as the ep goes it looks like skyfall has got his wish afterall O.o takashi seems to be in deep shi~ with his arm >.<

lots of bonding between yorito and matsuri ~ which makes breaking up all the more difficult O.o she even goes as far as to tease him into a kiss



it was quite tense to see the comfrontation between aono and matsuri ~ and it doesnt seem that things will be sorted out any time soon...

and then she leaves ~ why leave i ask? it could be something that aono told her (get away from my brother) or it could be herself feeling regret knowing that she had done something terrible in the past and decides to intervene no more...

Don't worry, after having watched episode 6, I was thinking of adding a "perfect 11" to the future poll options

I can't believe how much this series is giving out, in term of everything: it's sweet, mysterious, it's unpredictable, supernatural.. and more. It's really exceeding all of my exceptions by several miles. I delay any further comments to fansub watching. While I've got quite a few things even with the raw only, there are much more which I want to learn. For the moment, I'm just speechless, especially considering that there are still 7 (+2) more stages of this amazing journey.

Hmmm. It is interesting that as soon as I saw something in manga that wasn't in anime series ep. 1 to 5, this episode provides some answer to it; They are synchronizing the whole thing rather well. Ever since I heard Matsuri/Noto Mamiko say "Zurui yo, kore wa" from the end of ep.2, I had a feeling that this series would have some intense drama disguised in light hearted moments and Moe-ness, and apparently I may get my wish for the series becoming a serious exploration into relationships and inner thoughts. Will it reach "Hitsuji no Uta"(the manga, not the OVA) level? It may. Sola has become the third anime series which I couldn't resist rewatching the whole thing over and over again. ( For those who are interested, the first was 'Touch', and the second was 'Koi Kaze' )

By the way

Spoiler for noticing few things:

1. Yorito and Mana knew each other for only about 3 month. Mana met Aono first, and that was because Koyori introduced her.
2. Koyori really thought highly of Yorito. Matsuri really destroyed that with a smile
3. It is for dialogues like those on the school roof that Noto Mamiko is chosen for Matsuri.
4. Aono said she used a lot of power. Wonder what she did, perhaps, resurrection spell?!
5. Although Yorito's identity may soon be revealed as something shocking, I am also getting a vibe that something needs to be different this time around compared to the time when Aono became a Yakabito. The biggest difference may be Mana and she may end up doing some major things before the end. One of the reasons is that she is just too easy around Matsuri. Either Matsuri does have power to charm anybody she meets, or Mana is also connected to the grand scheme of the whole thing as more than just a foil for Yorito.
6. We still don't know why Koyori keeps forgetting to call Mana, "Onee-san." There may be a serious drama or two behind this.
7. There must be some relationship between girls who became yakabito and those monstrous dolls.
8. I wonder if the previous Yorito's attempt to make Matsuri tolerate sunlight have led him to be in situation which resulted either in his death, or being close enough to make Aono think he is dead.

Sometimes, Matsuri looks like grown up version of Nodoka from Negima. They even have the same voice actor, although Matsuri is much more outgoing. Oh, by the way, "Iron Claw!!!!"

I actually think that the hints point to the cave scene occurring not 50 years in the past, but hundreds of years - the kimono and the knife and the children's clothing (seen in ep1) don't look like what you would customarily wear in this day and age.

If that's the case, it is possible that the Yorito that we know now is not the Yorito in the original flashback, but rather someone that looks like him that Aono has found and warped reality around (this may possibly be the great expenditure of energy she refers to).

I think she dripped blood on the frog to animate it. It appeared to jump of its own accord, and it was on the floor when Matsuri met Aono in the railcar. It may have lead Matsuri to Aono.

I think it's pretty obvious that Yorito is some type of ressurection or reincarnation ... the question really is how did he get here? :O

hmm, big question:
Was Yorito a Yaka too in the past? That's why he appeared to be suffering under the sun? Or past-Yorito and Aono's was not blood-related and he was trying to save Aono and Matsuri from the curse?

I rewatch epi 2 and Matsuri was actually shock to hear the name 'Yorito', but she probably consider it as a coinsidence because she thought Yorito was long dead.

I had to rewatch Ep. 1 again then Ep. 6 to see that cutscene in the cave. It does seem to take place in a time when kimonos were commonplace. So, as one person suggested, it could have been not just 50 years in the past, but probably longer. Matsuri did say she was, I think, 400 or 500 years old.

Yorito has absolutely no recollection of what happened. Something happened to him between now and the time the other two, Aono and Matsuri, last met in the same place and time.

After seeing Ep. 6, we can more than likely assume that Aono is still a Yaka, with whatever ailed her was a result of her being one and being in the hospital. But, in Ep. 6, she was still human before she took her life, and before Matsuri turned her into a Yaka. Yorito most likely wasn't one in the first place, but as another posted before, he did show signs of strain under the sun. But, it could also mean he was exhausted from climbing the hill or mountain to see the two.

If you notice: Where are Yorito's and Aono's parents in all this? This hasn't been explained even up to now. In Da Capo, it was mentioned that the parents are away on business, here we get nothing of the like. If Yorito and Aono were from a time long in the past, then their parents are long past dead. It could also mean that Aono and Yorito are not related per se via blood.

I think that whatever happened to Yorito, whether lengthy hibernation similar to vampires or induced upon by another person to go into a deep sleep or be reincarnated, may have resulted in a memory loss.

That leaves the "Why?" and "How?" left to be answered. >_<;;;

P.S.- Aono does seem rather peculiar. As soon as she dropped blood onto the frog origami, it flinched or showed movement.

This ep was blowing my mind, I had to watch it three times on row to just to check and listen some scenes...and I'm still speechless and and I can't think nothing else. Doing awesome job with hooking on the road of mysterious story....

Sure there was very small hints for some revelations that occurred here, but no way you could guess everything... sure it built some mentioned questions. My biased opinion is that this series is must and HUGE enjoyment for anyone who's fond to mystery or character interactions at least if has been so far...It feels that there's still coming good portion of drama done tastefully.

Maybe Aono simply created Yorito, and that's what cost her so much effort. Or maybe (as 2channel seems to think) he is a reincarnation.

Another possibility for why Aono spent so much energy is that she was doing something to herself to enable her to bear the sun.

Maybe ancient Yorito was not a yaka, but was Aono's younger brother and loved Matsuri. He died somehow -- or disappeared -- and Aono committed suicide but was brought back by Matsuri and thereby converted into a yaka. Not sure why Matsuri went against Aono's wishes in that way. They have been living separate lives, unable to be together because of Aono's memories, but now Matsuri has reentered Aono's life. However, Matsuri realized that she could not stay with Aono, perhaps because it would pain Aono so, and perhaps because Yorito is there, and she knows that humans and yaka can't actually live together for long because it eventually harms the human. Maybe Aono's expenditure of energy was to limit how much she harmed Yorito.

Or perhaps Yorito isn't human, either, but a creation of Aono's.

This is one of my top six shows of the season, along with Hitohira, Touka Gettan, Lucky Star, Seirei no Moribito and Emily of New Moon.

Another question is, assuming that they don't age, how did Yorito grow up with Aono?. When he was a baby, she would've have to been like one huge big sister. Do they even mention her age?

I think reincarnation and memory loss makes sense right now, but not too sure anymore.

yea its pretty strange to think but im in support of the reincarnation theory over the resurrection though it is a pain in the ass trying to think how aono was able to make yorito believe that she is his onee chan and in fact how she ever found him at all...or even how did she know that this person here is the reincarnation of her yorito ~ i smell inbou!
