The circumstances around the two are very different. Like others pointed out, there was more of a playful air around the C.C. scene. And considering she is immortal, I think he knew she could take care of herself.

With Kallen.....He was about to be executed and Kallen was going to die with him. He lied to save her life and then said that line. It's a much more dramatic and serious scene.

So to me the Kallen scene is more meaningful. However, I can understand why C.C. fans love the scene with Lulu at the end of S1. It's meaningful in its own way I guess.

LELOUCH: Yeah, that's right.Your brother is a liar.

I don't care how much you hate Rolo, this scene was amazing. I never particularly cared for him, but I consider his last scene the best in all of R2. It completely puts Shirley's clichéd (and copied shot for shot from .hack//Roots pretty much...) death scene to shame, and it's the only scene that can rival Euphy's death from R1 in terms of execution and emotional tugs, or perhaps even surpass it.


Most disappointing:

"Farewell... Lelouch..."

Way to go, Kallen. All those scenes with Nunnally and you STILL couldn't see through Lelouch's lies. This just proved to me what a worthless character Kallen is and that she doesn't deserve Lelouch at all. I can't believe she WASTED all that screen time with those conversations with Nunnally, all to produce no character development that actually amounted to something. I guess they were only there for us to watch her breasts grow after all.

I pretty much agree with 2/3's of that. I pretty much hated Rolo (huuuge fan of Lulu and whatever he wants + C.C. and Kallen) but the scene was really emotional, (like the rest of the anime lol). So that's the first two (the quote and the opinion of the quote) but i think that at the end, it didn't go all to waste. Her reaction to "live on" made me feel like she understood what was going on and that lelouch was lieing.

Mainly because Shirley was an innocent civilian and Rolo was a recovering psychopath with a big brother complex.

Apart from the honorifics used your forgetting one key factor, that being that C.C. was still immortal at the point in time. lelouch telling her not to die was pointless, if she got shot, crushed, burned or mangled it wouldn't of mattered she'd have just got back up again. Now if C.C. had told him not to die it would've meant something.

Kallen on the other hand was a completely different barrel of fish, she gets shot, she dies, she doesn't have plot armor. Lelouch had no need to tell "Kallen, you must live on", but he did because he wanted her to at least know why he said what he did.

The devil is in the details as it were and even though the end was nigh for lelouch he was still paying attention to them.

Of course being a KaLulu fan helps matters considerably as well.

Actually, I personally find it way more meaningful especially because C.C is immortal. But that's probably just me.

Different meanings for different people. I'm not going to argue. Its the favourite quotes thread. You like a quote, its your opinion your entitled to it.

What i wrote was my opinion on the matter on what he said to both Kallen and C.C. Its not the gospel, just my take on the matter and i'll admit i'm biased on the matter, heck i'm honest enough to have it beneath my title.

Espicially if you watch the clip over and over again you'll notice that the light starts draining from the scene. Quite fitting since it was the start of his temporary soujorn down the dark path for a second time.

On hindsight, it was all the more intense considering that was the last time he ever showed anygenuine emotion. A piece of him seemed to have died with Shirley from that day on, as he never seems to be as passionate about anything anymore.
